Is Hydraluron really any good?

So I had some last year and tbh didn't really notice much difference. But my skin seems really dry in this harsh weather ( have dry sensitive skin anyway ) so thought I might give it another go.

But, it is pretty expensive so before I splash out, I was wondering if anyone knew whether it really makes a difference or not..?

I have used it before and it feels nice going on , is sucked into my skin quickly but tbh I don't notice much difference to my skin at all.
I just bought a new lot as my skin is so dry this winter .

I am using rosehip oil as well , feels like ti may be doing something but not dramatically.

Didn't do anything for my skin either! Quite expensive as well Angry

AWholeLottaNosy · 11/02/2015 00:27

So just more snake oil then..?

< sigh >

Oils at night have really helped my dry winter skin, I use a Clarins one, applying a night cream and when its very bad slathering on a layer of Aveeno Cream helps (not the lotion version though, has t. be cream)

plasticbanana · 11/02/2015 05:37

Yes, I bought it after recommendations on here as well. Didn't do anything. And cost me 20 odd quid. So disappointed.

Talisin · 11/02/2015 06:49

It works brilliantly for me but going by the other replies, definitely a case of ymmv. There are cheaper alternatives if you want to give hyaluronic acid another shot though.

goodasitgets · 11/02/2015 07:43

I noticed a difference but found this in t k maxx and this works for me too

Yes I love the stuff. But it is not meant to moisturise on its own ... instead it boosts or helps your moisturiser work. Kind of like a sponge, I think, as it retains moisture. I find it really softens furrows (temporarily, like everything, but the effect is good.
Use it with a moisturiser you already like - Aldi's range is great - and only use a pea-sized amount. A tube should last you three to four months at least.

mcgilly · 11/02/2015 08:32

I also like Rosehip oil!
I wouldn't think Hydraluron would work with Rosehip oil as it helps the skin retain water, not oil ... rosehip oil might have a similar insulating effect. Try one or the other, but not both at the same time.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/02/2015 08:43

It didn't work for me (yes, I was using it as a serum under moisturiser). I found it did very little in the way of plumping and just gave me spots. I don't get on with any of the indeed labs stuff, unfortunately.

I do like the Vichy retinol and hyaluronic acid serum/filler though (blue metal tube). I find that is very good. It's in a creamy base rather than a gel base (though you still only use a tiny bit) and it makes as much difference as a non prescription topical product can to my skin.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/02/2015 08:45

one, the LiftActiv range

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/02/2015 08:48

I notice the reviews say it is a complete moisturiser but I don't use it that way. I literally use it on my dehydration lines to plump them out a bit and use a more nourishing moisturiser on top.

Nabootique · 11/02/2015 09:34

It is not a moisturiser. It's meant to go under moisturiser. On it's own it will not do anything, although you can buy some moisturisers containing it as a kind of hybrid product, but I haven't tried them. I use Indeed Labs and I notice a difference. If you are dry/flaky it probably won't do anything, but it definitely helps plump out my skin when it is dehydrated.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 11/02/2015 09:36

Sorry naboo, I was talking about the vichy one not the hydraluron.

Fabulassie · 11/02/2015 13:03

Well, I use it. Does it do anything? I can't honestly tell. I use a ton of products, all carefully chosen to do their thing, and I'm not sure which ones are actually making a difference. All I know is my skin looks fantastic. Before I started taking skin care seriously about a year ago I had dull skin and a spotty jawline, as well as those white millia bumps on my cheeks/under my eyes. My skin is pretty much flawless now and glows.

My list of products/daily routine is daunting, but I will share it. (FYI, I'm 45 with fair skin, occasional hormonal spots but not particularly oily or dry.)

Non-topical things I do: Omega 3 oil capsules and Botox.

Products:

  • Double Cleansing: Clinique Take The Day Off Balm and Dermaquest Skin Therapy Anti-Bacterial Enzyme Cleaner (several days a week using a Boots No 7 Clarisonic-style brush)

  • AHA Toner: Boots Time Delay Daily Brightening Toning Water

  • Hydraluron gel

  • Olay Regenerist Serum

  • Olay Regerist Moisturiser

  • Olay Regenerist Nightime Elixer (Glycolic Acid)

  • Olay Regenerist Nightime Moisturiser

If I get spots (and I rarely do) I may use La Roche Possay Effeclare Duo.

Anyway, my point is that my skin looks great but who knows if any one of these things is particularly responsible. Could be down to the fish oil and the scrubbing brush with the other products simply not being problematic.

Gen35 · 11/02/2015 13:09

My skin feels better since I've been using the Eucerin one then moisturiser and it does look a bit more hydrated (I have combi breakout prone skin so have to be careful with heavy moisturisers) but it's not so wonderful that I would buy it again without trying a few other serums and oils I've got my eye on.

Lambzig · 11/02/2015 13:14

I love it and stopped using it recently because I nabbed some Perricone serum from TK Maxx, but I have now started adding it in to my routine again as the Perricone brightens, but doesn't moisturise enough and in a couple of day the Hydralauron has made a big difference.

Have to say I think it made a big difference in the plumpness of my skin.

Skincare is pretty individual though.

valsoldknickers · 11/02/2015 13:19

I use the Indeed version because I am useless at drinking water. I put a load on my face and neck at night just before going to bed. I love how my skin feels in the morning and definitely notice the difference when I don't use it!

I am no expert and have never found a set of products I swear by and stick to religiously though.

AWholeLottaNosy · 11/02/2015 13:19

There's so much stuff out there promising miracles that it's hard to know what will work for you.

Only thing that has ever really made a noticeable difference was when I was doing a low carb high fat diet a few years ago. My skin positively glowed!

I have been taking high strength fish oils for years and I think it may have been reason people comment on my skin as I had to stop them for 6 weeks as I had some stomach problems and wanted to work out what was causing it and my skin is the worst its ever been. Back on them now but only 4 days so no big improvement yet. I use decleor and it really plumps skin up although I think a lot of it is genetic.
