Anti ageing products that 'do what they say on the tin'.

I'm going shopping just for me next week and want to choose a new serum or similar. I have been using Clarins Double Concentrate for three months and really like it as it I find it's lovely under my foundation. I'm not sure I'm seeing any actual improvement in my skin though. I am nearly 50 and feel that I need a product which is more refining or exfoliating to liven up my tired complexion. I don't mind paying a similar price to Clarins if it works, but am equally happy to hear about cheaper alternatives that are good. All advice gratetfully received.

I use the Estée Lauder night repair. It is v good.

Can I be cheeky and also ask for recommendations for eye creams that do what it says on the tin?

RosieLig · 10/02/2015 21:54

Hydraluron hydrating serum is great stuff, really plumping.

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 11/02/2015 07:28

Thank you! I will ask for a sample of night repair. Where can I try/buy hydralaron serum Rosie?

In boots. Although there's a cheaper suggestion on the Hydraluron thread that looks good.

coffeenut · 11/02/2015 07:58

Try retin A, acid peels or botox. There is so much money wasted on anti-ageing serums!

Truckingalong · 11/02/2015 10:35

Botox. Forget creams - they all do nothing.

KentishPud · 11/02/2015 10:41

Honestly? It's the old fashioned, boring drink lots of water.

It has a noticeable, short-term plumping effect, which is the best you can hope for from any cream IME.

I'm 60 and for the last year or so have been using the Una Brennan Neroli range (serum, day and night creams) and my skin hasn't looked so good in ages.

I know creams don't actually 'work' but I swear my lines are less pronounced, and my skin just looks healthy. I haven't changed my lifestyle/diet, so I don't know what else it could be.

Chicinwellies · 11/02/2015 14:36

Rodial Glamtox day night and eye. Nuff said!

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/02/2015 15:49

I second retin A, start with the mildest, think its 0.01% then work up to 0.05%. 0.1% was too strong for me.

You'll need to wear sunblock every day but you all do that anyway don't you?

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/02/2015 15:53

0.025%, whoops.

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 11/02/2015 16:25

Lots to think about...thank you everyone.

I'm a long-time user of Clarins, taken me a few years to find exactly the right products, dehydrated but sensitive skin. I've been very happy with the double serum and hydra quench over the top.

Recently, though, I have tried Dr Organics Snail Serum with Snail Serum Gel Cream over the top.

Very, very impressed. Redness has toned down and my skin looks the same and feels even nicer. 1/3rd of the price too.

noddyholder · 11/02/2015 16:38

Decleor aromessences (day and night) and Rodial glamtox day made my skin look amazing. I changed to cheaper after xmas and was a mistake got my decleor delivered yesterday and even overnight can see that it makes a difference Even dp noticed

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 11/02/2015 19:26

Lesley I tried the snail gel last year and quite liked it so I might buy again.
Noddy please can you tell me where you buy your products from? I used Decleor way back when I probably didn't need it. I haven't heard of the other brand you mentioned. I am a big fan of aromatic products as they make me feel pampered and relaxed.

I get it from QVC as it seems to be the cheapest. I can't believe how my skin suffered without it really looked dull.

IceniMist · 11/02/2015 20:55

Where do you get retin a from? Perscription?

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/02/2015 21:09

eBay!

Chicinwellies · 11/02/2015 23:51

Try rodial brand (can get in m&s) with retinol. Never had so many comments about my complexion and I've changed nothing else

Ohmygrood · 12/02/2015 00:00

Decleor is the best I that have used. I used to love clarins, but I have gone off them recently.
I got the last decleor TSV and their night balm is fantastic - I can really see the difference in the morning.

Make up is the best anti-ageing product ... Doesn't have to be expensive, just find something that makes your skin glow, a soft lip color that reminds you of a fruit (berries, plums ... Not nudes or browns). A good non-spiky mascara and you're ten years younger in three minutes.

mcgilly · 12/02/2015 03:38

Sorry, that should read go d a foundation-type of product - not heavy, not matte and probably not a bb-type of cream. Look for tinted, sheer, luminous products. So many good ones, don't have to be pricey.

butterfliesinmytummy · 12/02/2015 03:39

Neals Yard Frankincense Intense Concentrate and Moisturizer. Absolutely amazing, take photos before and 30 minutes after applying. Gentle enough to use round the eye area and of course, organic and free of toxins and carcinogens. Absolutely love it and lines round my eyes have disappeared.

Hazchem · 12/02/2015 04:19

Rosehip oil! It's just so good. It plumps the skin, helps combat dryness. Put on after washing your face and before cream.

yazzy85 · 12/02/2015 08:50

Soap and Glory serum has been working better than others I've tried.
