Boys/unisex leggings, what do you think?

Hi, just wondering what peoples thoughts are on these types of leggings aimed towards boys? But obviously not limited just for boys.
media.laredoute.com/products/641by641/32/44/94/324494671_0_CL_2_324494656-48608ac9-0861-44dd-ab90-305da2f56642.jpg

Im thinking of having some made with a boho style feel to them, teepees, arrows etc and also t shirts too.

Would you buy them?

Thanks! :D

Yes I like them and think they would be great for crawling/toddling boys and girls

CoffeeTwo · 08/02/2015 13:24

My nearly 3yo DS is always in leggings. Way comfier for playing in. Feel a bit sad for the little boys at soft play in tight jeans struggling to climb!

Love the sound of teepee and arrow styles :)

WhereIsMyFurryHat · 08/02/2015 13:28

Yes, all three of my boys have been legging wearers.

Artandco · 08/02/2015 13:34

Mine always wear Tights and leggings.

I'm not a huge fan of patterns though so just buy plain colours

squiz81 · 08/02/2015 13:37

I love leggings on my ds. I buy them from etsy, there are loads of great prints available.

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 13:46

Thank you, i love them too! A couple of my friends did do a bit of a katie hopkins raised eyebrow look, with a 'arent they for girls' comment Angry

I will be starting with two prints with the leggings and three tshirts. One with a 'baby bohemian' slogan, one with 'free spirit' and one plain with a teepee on the pocket. (up to now - sorry thinking out loud!) Am still in the early process, any suggestions very welcome!

Am just trying to gauge the market and will definitely check out etsy as I found them hard to find for my little boy.

Ds2 is 4 and always cold. He wears leggings, under his trousers in winter, pretty much every day. He's a bit older than most boys leggings are aimed at, but being quite small its no problem. Today he's wearing some mickey mouse ones.

Artandco · 08/02/2015 16:23

What is your market buyer?

On the high at there's maybe not so many around, but I found loads very easily online

For example:
-mini rodini

  • Cambridge baby
  • nununu ( DS age 3 is wearing a black pair of leggings with grey stars on today from here)
  • babaroo organics
  • sarava
IWannaHoldYourHand · 08/02/2015 16:28

Would yours be the baggier type with wide leg cuffs that's quite commonly available? Or the tighter, uncuffed, type generally in the girls department?

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 16:51

My battery is on 1% so very quick answer, my target market will probably be the hipster, possibly slightly older parents who will go for quality and comfort.

I think it's an emerging trend but my take on then is very much a bohemian/hippy slant which I know is probably quite niche and not to peoples tastes.

Ideally I'd like to kit out a vintage 'truck' and have a portable pop up shop. And also find independent stockists.

Like I say it's still in the early stages and a new idea :)

I wanna, the type i would be selling are the stretchy cottony tight type but still have a cuff at the bottom

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 16:52

Can't believe my battery held out for that!

On a serious note feel free to 'pick away' or add any advice!

my DS wears leggings sometimes. He is 5. He loves them because they are elasticated, and they keep him warm, and don't drag on the floor/annoy his ankles.

FelixFelix · 08/02/2015 16:54

Do a quick search on Instagram and you'll find tonnes of people making these, with the same sort of patterns you're thinking of too. I think you'd find it hard to sell much with so much competition to be honest.

I do think they are great though, and so much better than seeing toddlers in stiff jeans!

PavlovtheCat · 08/02/2015 16:55

oh, and yes, I would buy them.

FelixFelix · 08/02/2015 16:59

Sorry forgot to say you may do well locally at markets etc, as you'll be able to target the people who don't use Instagram/etsy to look for this sort of thing. It might depend on what area you live in though. I know they would sell well where I currently live but in my hometown you'd have no chance Grin

IWannaHoldYourHand · 08/02/2015 17:02

Being neither hipster, non older mum, I'm not really your target market. But I agree with FelixFelix, they're not particularly hard to get. Even H&M sell them.

CurlsLDN · 08/02/2015 17:06

My crawling 9mo ds wears leggings every day. I think they look stylish and comfy. I'm 30, but v much an urbanit, not a hippy! Perhaps your market is wider than you think?
He has these teepee ones from Zara
static.zara.net/photos2014/I/0/3/p/1165/570/803/2/w/1920/1165570803_1_1_1.jpg?timestamp=1403853204643
They are my go to place for printed leggings for him, however as pp said there's fab ones on etsy too.
I think you have a good opportunity and a lovely vision, so long as you can reach the right people and make it worth your while in terms of time spent vs money made

avocadotoast · 08/02/2015 17:06

I like leggings/tights for boys and girls, so I'd take a look. I wouldn't buy ones with teepees and arrows etc as I'm not into the whole "boho feather headdress at a festival appropriation" thing though.

MamaLazarou · 08/02/2015 17:43

My son wears leggings - just plain ones, though, no patterns.

My friend's son's wear gold shimmery ones!

MrsAlabamaWorley · 08/02/2015 17:47

My 1 year old DS only wears leggings! They're so much more comfortable than jeans or trousers. He's wearing his Zara teepee leggings today! We mainly buy them from Zara as they're such a good price and good quality/fit.

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 18:37

Aw man just seen those Zara ones! They are so similar to what I have been envisaging, i love them! My ds did have some cute ones from zara but I went in the other day and there wasn't one pair, all chinos and jeans.

And I must be the worlds worst googler, as I have been finding them difficult to get hold of.

I have just realised the leggings I am interested in purchasing are a ribbed type of material so probably not the best to be printing patterns onto, but are a brilliant quality. So might start with the plain ones and concentrate the prints and motifs on the tshirts.

Thanks for all the responses, it really helpful and its nice to hear of so many parents dressing their sons in leggings. I found a thread from a couple of years ago with someone asking about them and a lot of people gave some withering answers about sticking to 'normal' trousers.

Im aware designing and making the products is the easy part, its the selling that is hard, but I am lucky we have two fantastic vintagey 'hip' (sorry :D) markets that I can test the waters with.

Mama, your friends sons sound amazing! I hope he teams them with leopard print loafers Grin

Leggings are fine, skulls on a baby are awful though.

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 18:40

avacado, "boho feather headdress at a festival appropriation" is how most people would describe me Grin

When i get some samples I will (if allowed) let you all have a look and brace myself!

OP posts:
Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 18:42

SoonToBe - I dont have a problem with skulls on a baby in general, but I wouldnt purposely design them myself either.
