Boys/unisex leggings, what do you think?

Hi, just wondering what peoples thoughts are on these types of leggings aimed towards boys? But obviously not limited just for boys.
media.laredoute.com/products/641by641/32/44/94/324494671_0_CL_2_324494656-48608ac9-0861-44dd-ab90-305da2f56642.jpg

Im thinking of having some made with a boho style feel to them, teepees, arrows etc and also t shirts too.

Would you buy them?

Thanks! :D

Yes my DS wears ones like these a lot, funnily enough he has a pair with arrows and a pair with tepees on, from zara baby boy range! (Last season) Very Scandinavian Grin

notoneforselfies · 08/02/2015 18:45

Oops sorry, just read the thread after posting!

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 19:09

notoneforselfies, I do love the zaras boys leggings, I think the ones I will be buying are a tadge more slim fitting. They just look so comfy to be in don't they!

I have found an amazing graphic designer who is turning my sketches into proper digital designs, if anyone knows how to do some proper market research I'd be happy to take any advice. Or is it literally jumping out at people for their opinions? Will I look like a lunatic?

Do look at the Scandinavian websites. There are loads to be found. Tbh I do think you have a lot of competition. My eldest is 5 and I have found it just as easy to buy him nice legging type stuff now in 100% organic cotton age 5-6 as I have for babies and in between. Have you really looked in many places or just the mass produced high St stores?

Laquila · 08/02/2015 21:53

OP, can I just say that I think that your target marketing might not be too keen on any clothing with text on - that's just my take on it though so feel free to ignore ;)

MrsAlabamaWorley · 08/02/2015 21:58

It's so hard to get nice boys leggings in the UK other than Zara. I buy from Mini Rodini but they are a tad overpriced. There seems to be a huuuuge market for this sort of thing in Australia but the postage prices put me off!

callamia · 08/02/2015 22:02

I'd totally buy them. They sound quite mini rodini, and I love DS in leggings and baggy jumper. Most of ours come from H&M, the brushed cotton lined ones are the best.

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 22:09

Artandco, admittedly in the past I have quickly googled and didn't find what I was looking for easily. Since I have started to research more I have come across many more, although only a few in the same type of style I would be going down.
I also think as MrsAlabama says there seem to be many in Australia and also the US. I will have a look at the Scandinavian sites also thank you.

I don't mind competition and the outlay is not huge to dip my toe in the water and test the market, I suppose it's all a huge learning curve whichever way it progresses.
But hopefully some of you may be looking at my designs one day! Grin

Thank you laquila, I will definitely take it on board, especially as you are not the only person to say this.

Callamia, I melt and buy nearly anything that has a brushed cotton inner lining!

They're not necessarily my style but I have a lot of hipster friends who are very into them at the moment. :)

I do (as an American) get slightly uncomfortable with the appropriation of things belonging to the Native people. Teepees don't bother me (we have one to play in) but anything with headdresses (which are sacred to the Natives) would be given a wide berth by me. I like the "wild boho" look (much better to encourage children to play outside and get mucky than to sit around in little lord Fauntleroy ruffles in my opinion) but I like the "wild" stuff to be bears, wild animals etc rather than Native artifacts as it plays into the idea that the tribes were full of wild savages when in fact many were very civilized in their own way.

That being said I do think a lot of that "look" is very cute and would do well as it's very trendy at the moment. Good luck! PM me if you want some American sales, I'm due with a little boy this spring and also have friends who are very into this and also are very big into advertising small businesses on IG.

Fcukfifa · 08/02/2015 22:30

Cheerful I totally get what you mean, I haven't got anything with headdresses incorporated into it. I am very much into the wild boho look and feel but also like to relate to it with the sea, beaches, travelling, music etc and I hope to add more designs if I do ok

However, I did sketch a dream catcher, would you consider that a bad move?

I will definitely pm you when I get chance to go on the laptop and not type through a bloody cracked screen on my phone, thank you that's a really nice thing to do :)

lovely. Shame they only go up to age 3, my ds(8) quite often wears his sisters plain leggings

GerbilsAteMyCat · 09/02/2015 00:39

Stars, planets or dinosaurs. Better than teepees imho (as someone from a country where people lived in teepees). My younger son at 6 wears 'soft trousers' and prefers patterns.

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 09/02/2015 12:58

Might be an idea to design your own fabric and make the leggings yourself?

Spoon flower will print your designs, but there are others. Unless you can buy your leggings at very cheap wholesale prices I think they might end up being quite expensive...

ouryve · 09/02/2015 13:01

They're just like jammie bottoms, aren't they, really. DS2 had some with feet in, that he wore in his buggy, as he wouldn't keep socks on and often kicked his cosytoes off. He now wears joggers, most days (he's a strapping 8yo, but still has issues with warm clothes!)

Fcukfifa · 09/02/2015 17:06

Pippi I may lolok into that thank you. My printers have told me today they cannot do an all over print, it needs to be done in the manufacturing process.

So thinking of having the plain leggings with a small thin tag on the side of the thigh.

And concentrating on the tshirts for now.

Can people tell me what they think of the name Irie as the brand name?
It stands for I respect I eternally.

Sorry if the threads moved into a different genre, I might flag it up and ask it to be moved to a different section.

Pippi, I am addicted to spoonflower! Its amazing, but pricey :(

OP posts:
Pippidoeswhatshewants · 10/02/2015 21:40

I am banned from looking at spoon flower Grin

Fcukfifa · 10/02/2015 22:12

I've ordered a yard of 3
different fabrics. I don't even know what a yard is, if it's the size of a pillow I am going to cry into the beautiful print Blush

I haven't converted the $s into £a because I don't want to know Grin

OP posts:
FelixFelix · 10/02/2015 22:15

A yard is 0.9 meters. What fabric did you end up buying? Are you going to make the leggings yourself? I need to have a go at making some for my DD. I've only ever done them in adult size but it can't be that different Grin

Re the name - there's already a clothing company online called Irie so you might want to think of something else unfortunately.

Fcukfifa · 10/02/2015 22:44

www.spoonflower.com/fabric/2239524

www.spoonflower.com/fabric/2859814

www.spoonflower.com/fabric/3204404

I've gone for these three in the modern jersey which looks so soft and stretchy.

I will probably make them myself under supervision of my mil Grin

Have also ordered plain jersey rib leggings from American apparel wholesale as a neutral.

I'm not sure exactly how brands/names work. So I will speak to an advisor about what you can and cannot do.

I did a quick mock up for a fb profile picture, am I allowed to post it for opinions?

OP posts:
Fcukfifa · 10/02/2015 22:46

Actually I don't think I dare GrinGrin

Are you selling any zara boys leggings x

MamaLazarou · 29/08/2015 09:36

My son often wore leggings when he was tiny. Where's the beef?
