yazzy85 · 03/02/2015 19:51

I've tried Nizoral, Neutrogena t-gel, head and shoulders....nothing works for my itchy scalp. Have been to the doctors but didn't get any help. Any advice?

have you checked for head lice?

Brookville · 03/02/2015 21:02

Or Piriton? Could you be allergic to a food?

Havingkittens · 03/02/2015 21:48

I've found Oilatum shampoo amazing relief for an intensely itchy scalp.

Skivvywoman · 03/02/2015 22:02

Head and shoulders for itchy scalp best thing ever!

Kahu · 03/02/2015 22:02

I like Klorane paediatric shampoo - the oat one.

yazzy85 · 03/02/2015 22:03

Yes, no head lice, tried washing everyday and every other day too. Had blood tests done recently no health reasons behind it, gp said it could be stress but that doesn't help me. No allergies either. I will try out the Oilatum. Thanks

Doctor didn't help? I got shampoo prescribed and it sorted it, and subsequent flare-ups. See another doctor?

Otherwise the next-best one I found was T-Gel shampoo.

yazzy85 · 03/02/2015 22:05

Just saw the other recommendations, thanks will those too, hopefully something will be the cure!

There's one you can get in chemist... Alphosyl, is vg. Personally I am a massive fan of body shop ginger shampoo for itchy scalp... It has revolutionised my scalp!

verbeier · 03/02/2015 22:06

I had same issue and tried Body Shop Ginger Shampoo. I won't lie : its not Kerastase but it cleans my hair well and no more itchy scalp!

DeanKoontz · 03/02/2015 22:06

Using an SLS free shampoo is the only thing that worked for me.

Hi, suffered for several years before learning via Mumsnet about Philip Kingsley shampoos - all I can say is that they work 100% !! My scalp problem may have been triggered by the menopause starting, r possibly stress; doc thought it could be psoriasis but its not, also tested me for various other things. The PK shampoo stopped the problem straight away and it has not reoccured although I will not stop using the shampoo! Oilatum etc were no use at all and in fact Oilatum was terrible for the condition which added to the problem. It was a MNer who recommended me so all I can say is Google, search Mumsnet and see what you think. I know how awful it is to suffer so I hope you get relief soon

NomNomDePlum · 03/02/2015 22:21

i use a shampoo with no sulphates, everything else makes my scalp itch. L'oreal ever pure i think it is. the sunflower one.

yazzy85 · 03/02/2015 22:50

Eucerin shampoo is lovely :)

eachpeachbarebum · 03/02/2015 22:59

I like la roche posay anti dandruff shampoo for dry scalps. The only thing that helps me now, though others me toned here used to work. I buy it online. hope it clears up soon for you.

Oldieandgoldie · 03/02/2015 23:13

GP could prescribe Betnovate Lotion (Application) for Itchy Scalp. It's a steroid but works a treat!

Katnipp · 04/02/2015 07:42

If you are going to try Philip Kingsley (and I recommend as well) buy from qvc. That way if it doesn't work for you then you can return. Definitely a plus point with things like this. Can't recall the number I half used bottles of shampoo I've dumped over the years!

thenumberseven · 04/02/2015 08:40

I had this problem many years ago and nothing I tried helped. Was at my wits end as the itching became unbearable.
The chemist sold me a coal tar shampoo. It got rid of the problem very quickly. No idea of the name. I think Activated charcoal added to shampoo is the same.

yazzy85 · 04/02/2015 08:55

Katnipp thanks for the qvc tip, the philip kingsley one is one that I haven't tried buy quite pricey so its good to have that assurance I can return if it doesn't work

You need to restore the oils on your skin and in your body. Massage scalp with shea butter or ghee before bed to start with , these are extra rich and moisturizing. The Scalp Soother Oil by Fushi is easier to use then the butters, and is brilliant. Also up your omega 3 intake through oily fish and supplements.

BetweenDogandWolf · 04/02/2015 16:01

I've used e45 shampoo for this and it worked well for me.

shumway · 04/02/2015 16:02

I use baby shampoo.

YouCanCallMeBetty · 04/02/2015 21:06

Do you have hard water? A water softener completely sorted out my itchy scalp and dandruff.

UnityQuilt · 05/02/2015 05:55

Dr Hauschka Neem Lotion
