Do people still wear fascinators to weddings?

I am going to a wedding on Saturday and I just wondered if people still wear fascinators or are they naff?? The wedding is being held in a very lovely venue and I am sure there will be some very well dressed people there. I didn't know anyone else who is going as it is my DH's work colleague who is getting married.

i wouldn't wear a proper fascinator. They look so twee!

I like hats, they are way cooler but I get if you have gone to the trouble of a nice blow dry and you don't want to stick a hat on it especially as most weddings don't give you time to change/ refresh for evenings these days. A hat with an up do can work. Or a compromise of a hatinator is ok I suppose.

I have worn headbands with bows or an intricate bit of detail on them. Also big flowers I think can be nice.

Awful and naff IMO. A hat or if you don't like those nicely styled hair. Have recently noticed at several weddings (all pretty smart) that many women go hatless.

I love wearing hats and fascinators not together mind. My mum, sil and I have built up quite a collection.

Mum has a very striking black fascinator that she bought in a sale for £10 on a whim. I have promised her I will wear it at her funeral Xmas Grin

Having read through, I would go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable, compliments your outfit and to hell with fashion!

They make me break out into 'Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl...' etc. But there was NO NEED for DS2 (aged 7) to ask loudly why I'd been laughing and singing that song about Auntie Margaret's hat when she'd been in the car behind ours on the way to the reception.
You know the way a room goes suddenly silent? Well then.Blush

Yes. And naff

I was in Peter Jones in the summer helping a friend buy a hat. The shop assistant said absolutely no to a fascinator then showed us the alternative of a teeny tiny hat with all manner of feathers & bits hanging off it. It was rather disturbing.
I like a proper big hat.

A no vote from me - if you're worried about flat hair and hairband will just squash it in half anyway. Get a wonderful blow dry instead

So ok are you saying these images are hats or are the fascinators. We sell them as fascinators but if you go to the main high street shops they have very similar pieces and they call them hats and I dare say many people who try to condemn the fascinator would wear one of these and say I bought my hat from a exclusive hat designer.

They are fascinators ! And they can look lovely on the right hairstyle.

I love wearing a fascinator or hat to weddings. I think they help finish an outfit off and, take it from a garden party dress to a wedding outfit. I've got quite plain hair- a brown straight bob, and wearing one dresses my hair up. A sparkly clip or hair band would be lost in my flat hair.

cas2605 this thread was from January - I strongly suspect that the event in question has happened already.

MuttonWasAGoose · 19/12/2015 11:53

I think it's a shame that they went out of fashion before becoming everyday wear. I would love to wear a fascinator just because. I wish they were worn all the time.

Now I guess I'll never wear one!
