And, if so, what sort of thing?

Yes.

This year, they have tartan dresses in their family tartan.

They'll be wearing black patent leather shoes and white tights and I'm going to pose them for photos.

B/c that's what kids are for!

Bozza · 19/10/2006 16:47

Oh expat that sounds delightful. Am now tempted to get DD a tartan dress, even though we are thoroughly English.

Not sure I could get DS into a kilt though.

no. Have noticed shops have got cute baby Xmas outfits out already. Who on earth spends money on something that is only worn one day?!!

hana · 19/10/2006 16:51

mt - snap!

MrsBadger · 19/10/2006 16:52

I love the way those dresses get handed down so they reappear in the photos year after year on different children...

I buy them something special to wear over the Xmas period yes. Total waste of money really but just done it and now can't stop!

Luckily DD1 is such a tiddler she still fits the outfit she's worn for the last 2 yrs! Just as well as it was the most expensive thing I've ever bought!

I bought DD2 a dark red satin chinese style dress the other day and she had crushed dark pink velvet outfit from Monsoon for her 1st Xmas outfit.

Mad really as they only really get to wear it Xmas Day and Boxing Day!

FillyjonkthePumpkinEater · 19/10/2006 17:01

yes

pyjamas

toiletrollmummy · 19/10/2006 17:02

all dd's have an outfit each. last year dd1 and dd2 had a red satin dress each and dd3 had a santas dress to wear xmas day/ "my first xmas baby grow when she went to bed xmas eve an a red dress with red patent shoes for visiting family.

they will wear the same dress this year but dd3 will have to have a new outfit.
i kept her clothes from last year [grin[

Tutter · 19/10/2006 17:04

no

i'm in jeans and t-shirt and he's likely to be too

just not a christmas outfit type of family

BudaBeast · 19/10/2006 17:26

Was glad didn't buy anything special last year as DS refused to get dressed and stayed in his (new) PJs all day! He did have a new outfit - just normal trousers and a top from Zara.

This year have got a nice shirt 50% off and a pair of black cords for him.

Oh - and I get something new too!!

heifer · 19/10/2006 17:53

Not anything Christmassy as such, but we do all dress up on Christmas day..

Always did it when I was young, so just carried on really...

The photos look so much nicer - must this year must remember not to take so many before getting dressed - tracky bottoms not a good look on me...

pebblemum · 19/10/2006 18:45

When i was growing up we always dressed up for Christmas and Boxing Day and therefore always buy my boys a nice shirt to wear Christmas Day but i find that no one else seems to bother dressing up anymore. Ive even had to tone it down a bit as i always feel over dressed when we go to in-laws, im in skirt/nice top and everyone else is in jumpers, tracksuits etc

For ds2's 1st xmas (he was only 3months old) he had a santa suit for during the day, he looked very cute. Only wore it the once though but it was worth it for the photos

SSSandy · 19/10/2006 18:50

New dress usually for dd

Like to have something new for me too but don't always get round to it!

Bozza · 19/10/2006 21:34

I have always bought mine something new for Christmas that they then get to wear for subsequent parties etc. Last year DD had a velvet skirt and frilly blouse, and DS had cords and a polo shirt. Will probably get DD a dress this year - I have seen a nice purple pintuck cord dress on Vertbaudet - and DS trousers and a shirt. I just like them to have a nice new outfit.

oh i am SO looking forward to buying dd a christmas day frock. i think i used to love putting on my new dress almost as much as getting my presents when i was a wee yin (and my younger sister would sympathise with the handing down thing, hana).
tartan dresses sound molto scottish, expat. where are you getting them from, they sound cute. i had been thinking velvet. it's odd, we never dress her 'up' as i think wee girls can look daft in phoofey dresses but i will get somethign nice.

TheBlairAitchProject · 19/10/2006 21:44

or is it spelled foofey, i wonder?

nutcracker · 19/10/2006 21:44

I usually do buy them something new to wear yes. It will probably just be a top though this year.

flack · 19/10/2006 21:49

NO, never. Don't buy hardly anything ever, anyway. They already have so many clothes (many are gifts) that they barely wear (mostly wear school uniform or PJs, instead).

That's a question, how often do people buy new PJs?
