Advice on warm boots for wearing to watch football ...

My ds plays football matches at least twice a week plus training etc and I am freezing at this time of year. I have a decent coat and can layer up but haven't found any footwear that can keep my feet warm. Does anyone have any they recommend?

Heat holder socks, I got mine from matalan.

Ujjayi · 27/01/2015 21:41

Neoprene lined Hunters are warmer than my snowboots. DMBL40 raves about her Ilse Jacobsen boots for rugby side line mooching.

moosemama · 27/01/2015 21:44

I have Merrel Taigas for non-muddy conditions and Tayberry Neoprene boots for dog-walking. Both are really toasty.

Wow loads of responses, thank you. I will start working my way through them all before I order something!

Some of these look lovely but look like they would get ruined in the mud? The Merrell boots look more suitable but not cheap! Those of you that wear Uggs, don't they just get trashed?

My Merrell Oslo are on their third or fourth winter and still good as new. I'd invest.

123Jump · 28/01/2015 13:43

Ive had a pair of these Ugg boots for years. I have 3 sports mad boys, so spend many hours by the side of rugby & football pitches.
I have had mine for 3 years at least, but maybe more, I can't remember. They are still in great nick, worn in snow, rain, mud, you name it. I love having toasty toes.
Personally I wouldn't wear the normal Uggs as they would get wrecked in the mud.

Lambzig · 28/01/2015 13:44

I second Merrell's. I have the Decora chant and my feet are never cold or wet in them.

Surely Uggs would get very soggy at the side of a muddy football pitch.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 28/01/2015 13:45

My Merrells are very light in colour but mud just seems to brush off them once it's dried. I haven'd waded through ankle deep stuff in them (I use normal walking boots or wellies for that) but the sort that you get standing round football pitches etc is not a problem at all.

Actually my walking boots give pretty good protection from the cold too, I used to wear them for going to football matches, but I like the Merrells for everyday as they are so easy to slip on and off compared to lace-up boots and are warmer round the ankles - I wear them for the school run etc and they are on and off a lot over the course of a cold day. Haven't been tested in snow yet though.

I waded into the muddy edge of a pond in my Merrells at the weekend (DS who is 2 had face planted in the muddy water - that put a fast end to our morning out). Themud oozed over the top of my feet. I left them in the garage to dry out and just brushed them off this morning, they look like new. Mine are into their third winter.

FamilyAdventure · 28/01/2015 14:15

Timberland boots a size too big so you can wear two pairs of thick socks

ChablisChic · 28/01/2015 14:29

No idea about heated insoles, but I've put some sheepskin ones in my leather boots and they are wonderful. Only €5, and well worth it.

moosemama · 28/01/2015 14:55

I used to walk the dogs in my Merrells until I got the Tayberry wellies and they coped fine with all but the deepest, wade-through mud. As someone said upthread the mud seems to just fall off them once dry.

It's worth having a really good Google as prices vary widely. Mine were less than half the usual price, I think around £69.00 in the sale.

glub · 28/01/2015 20:08

bodiddly yes classic uggs are not as good against mud as leather boots but they are certainly warmer. i find a good pooload of waterproofing spray and a dark brown colour helps

RosieLig · 28/01/2015 21:32

merrell oslo boots - goretex and cosy (I live in a cold country and have 3 boys so watch a lot of sport!)

annabanana19 · 28/01/2015 22:45

I'm in my Ugg-lookalikeys. With 2 pairs of socks and they work for me.

polyhymnia · 03/02/2015 20:57

Bumwad which Merrell Decora style do you have ?

ProfessorProfessorson · 03/02/2015 21:06

Kiwi Sheepskin boots (equal / better than Ugg and half the price) - I buy the Ultimates as they have a sturdy, chunky sole, and use protector spray.

or

Skechers Grand Jams with added sheepskin insoles (cheap to buy on Ebay, I basically put them in all my shoes that I can fit them in Grin )

Skivvywoman · 03/02/2015 22:06

I've been a football mum to 2 boys for 15 years now and the best ever is uggs for keeping feet warm Smile

www.surplusandoutdoors.com/shop/outdoor-footwear/derri-wellington-boots/morton-boots-warm-fleece-lined-725829.html

These say good for standing around..

Bubbshjs · 04/02/2015 20:59

Stick on disposable toe warmers? Have a look on ebay.

Mixtape · 04/02/2015 23:47

I have a pair of fleece lined Doctor Martens with buckles and a zip instead of laces - the warmest boots I have ever owned!

KissyBoo · 05/02/2015 08:25

Is there any need to be standing around in the cold whilst a bit of leather is wanged around a field?

Can't you just sit in the car and read a good book?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 05/02/2015 09:36

An update on my post of Weds 28th 13:45. I have now waded through ankle deep mud in my Merrells and most of it didn't stick at all, the rest brushed off very easily once dry.

Merriboo · 06/02/2015 09:43

Another one to look at is ugg adirondack similar to sorrels with sheepskin lining for toasty feet
