A fringe? Yay or nay?

I'm thinking of having a fringe cut in, not had one since I was about 12!

Also have highlights in at the moment and want to go back to dark brown.

I just can't decide! Any words of wisdom? I will try and add a photo if I can figure it out.

I love fringes. I think they look awesome and they look good on me... But I have dry skin so I have to use quite thick moisturiser and because of that, I can't do it again. It used to get so so greasy. If you do have normal skin then go for it!!

twoandahalftimesthree · 26/01/2015 22:29

No! They need trimming all the time and they are such bastards to grow out when you change your mind. I reckon you'll regret it.

CointreauVersial · 26/01/2015 22:32

Yay!

Hides wrinkles and a high forehead - you can easily trim it yourself.

frankietwospots · 26/01/2015 22:32

What about trying a side sweeping fringe just to test the water?

squoosh · 26/01/2015 22:33

I say go for it, it's only hair. I'd never had a blunt fringe before so had one cut in a few months ago. Okay so I looked bloody terrible but at least I scratched that itch and will no longer pine for a fringe.

crje · 26/01/2015 22:36

I think they makes crows feet very obvious if you have them.

Hassled · 26/01/2015 22:37

I think yay. I'm sure mine has made me look younger - a bit less severe.

LadyB49 · 27/01/2015 02:39

Love my shaggy random fringe.

plentyofshoes · 27/01/2015 05:21

I did it. It looked ok. However, after I had dd I grew it out as I just did not have the time to style it properly so it looked rubbish.
It looked crap growing out too...

Romcom · 27/01/2015 06:43

I periodically have one, so I say yay. Adds another dimension, new thing to try etc. Just watch this brill tutorial if you do!

SocialMediaAddict · 27/01/2015 06:45

I love mine and it's delaying Botox for a year.

I started with a side fringe and now it's a full one.

Hoolit · 27/01/2015 06:53

I love mine, now I feel my hair always looks nice and styled whereas before by the time I got to work it was a state.

Germgirl · 27/01/2015 07:08

Romcom thank you so much for posting that tutorial. I have a fringe & sometimes it just wont lie nice & flat, I will try that drying technique shown, it looks like it'd really work.
I like my fringe, it annoys me when it misbehaves but I'm still very glad I've got it.
Wish I was brave enough to trim it myself though.

maybemyrtle · 27/01/2015 09:29

Love the look of a fringe on me, until the slightest hint of wind/rain when it instantly looks a mess, and growing them out is a pain. I've been toying with the idea of buying a clip in fringe, has anyone tried these?

YourHandInMyHand · 27/01/2015 14:43

Thanks for all replies, I've put a recent pic in my profile.

I don't mind the styling as I currently have to dry and ghd my full head of long thick hair so my mop is rather high maintenance anyway! Rarely moisturise my face (prob neglect it a bit TBH).

Am just worried I will instantly regret it so I am genunely torn. Confused

Oh I think you'd really suit a fringe. You can tell as your face looks great in the second photo where the hat is 'fringing' your face.

Go for it!

YourHandInMyHand · 27/01/2015 14:49

That video is very helpful for styling, thank you! Smile

YourHandInMyHand · 27/01/2015 14:51

squoosh why did I not think of hats as fringe shapes?! You make a good point Grin.

I think I am going to go for it. My hair does grow quite quickly anyway so if I don't like I will just go through the growing it out stage.

Millli · 27/01/2015 14:56

Definitely go for a fringe. In the second photo with the hat (which is like having a fringe IYSWIM) looks great on you.

RosyAuroch · 27/01/2015 15:14

Yay fringes. You will look fab with one. All Jess/CeCe-esque.

I have a fringe. I don't feel like myself without it.

lurkingfromhome · 27/01/2015 15:26

I am torn. I love the way a fringe looks on me. Everyone says it takes 10 years off me and is really flattering. However, it is an absolute bugger to maintain. I like a fairly long fringe (eyebrow length) so I get about a week out of it before it's too long and then I invariably leave it far too long until I have time to go and get it trimmed. So 90% of the time I have a fringe that needs cut. Also if you're prone to the frizz it is hellish. The least bit of damp in the air and mine goes all curly and frizzy and generally vile. I've been growing it out for about a year now and while I'm not so keen on the no-fringe look (it's a bit heavy and curtain-y on me) it is much much easier to keep.

lurkingfromhome · 27/01/2015 15:28

Oh I've just seen your pic. Your hair looks a million times easier to take care of than my own unruly barnet so I'd go for it!

Silverjohnleggedit · 27/01/2015 16:46

I got a fringe - didn't suit me, did a side fringe and eventually grew it out, glad I tried it though, people get too stuck in one style.

MaidenDevon · 27/01/2015 16:57

I was fed up of one length long dark hair with a middle parting so I got a fringe. I thought I looked like Claudia Winkleman. Looking back at photos I was actually channelling Noel Fielding.

You have nice thick hair, so I think you could have a lovely looking fringe. You could start with some longer layers in the front to build up to a fringe. I have just had a fringe cut and it makes my face look less severe and old(hopefully) when I have a pony tail.
