This cold is killing them, I am using carmex but it doesn't seem to help.

BigRedBall i had that recently, freaked me out as normally things like that go away quickly. I found putting something completely naturally moisturising and antibacterial helped ie no petroleum jelly.

Yy Lansinoh lanolin nipple cream.
I used to get cracks in the corner of my mouth and very sore chapped lips every winter. Started using Lansinoh 3 years ago and haven't had a single problem since. Not even slight dryness. Apply every night and your lips will be soothed straight away and quickly heal. Wouldn't be without it.

Vaseline seals, so whilst it can be good to protect the skin from things like harsh weather, it doesn't add any oil or moisture so is no use for dry or chapped lips.

Indirectly related tips coming up:

If you get cracks in the corners of your lips that don't go away for ages, use canesten on them. It's a fungal infection.

If you get little spots around the edge of your lips from lip balm, you could try using the original Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream in a tube. For me this is good for lips without causing the spots. It's expensive but one tube lasted me about 8 years never mind 8 hours. Probably 9 actually. It's good hand cream when your hands are very dry too.

Bepanthen is good but perhaps not the greatest look outdoors. Waitrose Pure beauty balm is great for lips and dry hands - weird consistency in the pot but liquifys when you rub it in.

If they're really chapped and sore try Aquaphor. Haven't seen it in shops but you can order it from Amazon and it works for even the worst driest lips. I order it in bulk so I never run out and have a tube stashed everywhere. Soothing and ultra moisturising.
