This cold is killing them, I am using carmex but it doesn't seem to help.

Lucas paw paw is excellent

TheHappinessTrap · 20/01/2015 21:46

Carmex! I suffer generally but especially in the lead up to my period EVERY MONTH, grr! Carmex is the only thing that properly sooth's.

misscph1973 · 20/01/2015 21:48

Eight Hour Cream or Pure Potions Skin Salvations. Both under £10 on Amazon/eBay. The only things that works for me.

StrikesMatches · 20/01/2015 22:00

First off, when they are wet, eg after the shower or brushing your teeth, give them a bit of a scrub with an old toothbrush or the corner of a flannel. That'll get the rough skin off and give you a nice starting point. I find Eight Hour Cream great (just the usual one, I don't know where my lip thing disappeared to) or carmex the best. And they both tingle nicely on newly scrubbed lips, which is a bonus.

nooyearnooname · 20/01/2015 22:03

For me its Carmex during the day and a massive greasy glob of EA 8hr cream at night, as much of it as I can stand. That usually does the trick....

TheCowThatLaughs · 20/01/2015 22:06

I know you're not meant to taste it but I find Carmex brilliant but so disgusting I can't bear to use it

seb1 · 20/01/2015 23:49

Carmex just isn't working for me,I feel it dries them more, I will look into some of the suggestions. thanks everyone.

A vote here for Burt's bees. Have ongoing sore, cracked, flaky lips. Am on day 2 and well impressed.

KellyElly · 21/01/2015 11:45

Chapstick (original) works really well for me.

mrs2cats · 21/01/2015 11:52

I've tried loads of lip balms but the best one for me is the EOS Medicated Lip balm. In winter, I often used to get cracks in the corners of my mouth as well as chapped lips but none since using the EOS balm.

CatCushion · 21/01/2015 11:57

Banana skin. Just rub it onto skin and leave overnight. Also drink lots of water.

avagosling · 21/01/2015 12:17

Anything with petroleum in the ingredients won't help long term, it's a by-product of the petrol/crude oil industry, just coats your skin like cling film, and chemicals could actually leach into the blood stream. Nothing beats good quality shea butter for me

My favourite is Blistex Intensive Moisturiser Hydrating Lip Cream. It's a tiny tube but isn't too smeary and lasts a while.

tetoka · 21/01/2015 13:22

I've had a real problem with my lips in the winter (and sometimes in the summer) since my teens. I get a split right down the middle of my bottom lip and once that opens it takes months to heal as every time you smile or laugh it would split open again and sometimes even bleed. I used to use Carmex and that seemed to do the trick but that stopped working after a while. I now use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream. Sounds a bit over kill and expensive but it really works for me for the past few years. I use it every morning and it usually lasts me 2 years on average. I even use it on dry patches and once a month put it all over my face after cleaning it for a deep moister mask. It's usually about £20 so for all the usage and lasting about 2 years I think it's worth it. Hope it helps as it helped me.

MadameOvary · 21/01/2015 13:27

L'Occitane Shea butter is soon overpriced. For the same money you can get a huge bag of the stuff that will last YEARS.
I made my own lip balm, with Shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil and beeswax. It is awesome.
If you can be arsed with that, Egyptian Magic Cream is brilliant (if £££)

avocadotoast · 21/01/2015 13:29

Another vote for Lansinoh. DH won't kiss me after I've put it on but it works so well it's worth it Grin

BigRedBall · 21/01/2015 14:18

tetoka I get that! But mines slightly to the left. Does anyone know why these cuts always appear at the same spot? I got a bit scared once and thought it might be a type of cold sore but it's just a cut. Nothing else and always in that exact spot.

whatAREyouwatching · 21/01/2015 14:49

I've found that mineral balms seem to replace my lips' natural lip hydration process - so perpetuating the need for lip balm (cunning!)

Whereas natural ones seem to support it.

I now use Burts Bees which is excellent, and need it a lot less often than when I was using other brands.

shypetal · 21/01/2015 16:57

Lansinoh nipple cream.....I swear to god the best beauty secret ever! Great for cuticles and heels too.....

Kewcumber · 21/01/2015 19:15

The original Blistex here too. Nothing else works or lasts as well.

Muckymoo71 · 21/01/2015 19:34

Ultra balm tin from lush, v similar to Liz Arden 8 hour cream but half the price abt £10. I use it wherever I have sore cracked skin and lips, non irritant too.

Opopanax · 21/01/2015 21:56

The best is Chapstick Original. It's hard to find but you can still get it on eBay.

TiredyMcTired · 21/01/2015 23:00

I've tried pretty much every balm going but the only one I buy now is Lip Service from Lush. It's smells great and moisturises instantly, especially on really dry cracked lips then seems to carry on working for ages- also fab on cuticles!

annadina · 21/01/2015 23:12

Carmex does bad things to me too, I use Clinique lip balm for when things are really bad, then cocoa butter lip salve from the body shop applied before bed as a preventative (until I forget or wear lipstick and need the Clinique again!).
