Here you go...

Oh yes. In the consultant meeting they obviously assumed I'd be stepping in to help out. It may well be that in one of the meetings about going home my mum mentioned my sister, and again they made that assumption. And when my dad had his hip operation the nurse went on and on about couldn't one of their daughters collect them (as opposed to being sent home in transport), she knew her daughter would do it for her, etc etc.

I cannot tell you how much I'd rather be with you lot on Friday. Will see if I can sneak in.

MrsSchadenfreude · 03/02/2015 18:55

LOL at DSIL's theory, MI! But seriously though, that is shit. My cousin gave up her job to go and look after her DDad after her Mum died. Social Services thought he would be fine on his own (he had heart problems and Alzheimers and clearly wasn't). Angry This is the man who was found wandering in Bromley shopping centre on his own, with no idea what he was doing there, and another time, miles from home in his car, driving erratically, no idea where he was going and why.

Agree with Molly - when my Mum was ill and in hospital, I was called by the nurse to demand that I be at hers when she was let out, as she would need looking after "for at least a week." I wasn't even living in the country at the time. I did come back, but they kept dithering about when they were going to let her out, I turned up and she was still in bloody hospital, miles from where she lived, and I had no key.

The irony is that it was DP and two of his brothers who provided round-the-clock care for their mother when she was dying. Seriously full-on stuff. DP's work gave him paid leave and he spent week after week there.

Enough of this. All v wearing, innit.

Happy birthday again, MrsS. Hope you have a great day. I like to celebrate mine over a number of days - not so much a day as a festival in our house. It's also my dad's birthday, but he is 85. You are a spring chicken in comparison.

I am so badly slept. DH got home from work at 1am, and is off again in a minute. It's my long day too, til 8.30pm tonight. Knackered already and I haven't started yet!

motherinferior · 04/02/2015 08:49

I'm also seeing if I can make it lateish on Friday, dammit.

Yay, MI!
You need to look at it as emotional support, not drowning your sorrowsWink

MollyAir · 04/02/2015 11:00

Happy Birthday, MrsS! Cake

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/02/2015 11:15

Thank you!! GrinGrin I wanted to work from home today, but have to go into work for a meeting. Sad

I am so, so tempted to take the DDs away for a week at half term. We could go to Madeira for a week, but the return flight is on the Monday, which would mean them missing a day of school. I know DH will say no...

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 04/02/2015 11:30

Madeira sounds much better than being stuck in the rain... Neither are doing GCSE's this year - would a day matter so much?

motherinferior · 04/02/2015 11:58

I AM COMING ON FRIDAY.

Lateish, probably, but I will be there.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/02/2015 12:05

Excellent news, MI. Smile

In S&B news, I have bought a new coat. It was reduced from £299 to £79.

OP posts:
motherinferior · 04/02/2015 12:11

Bargain.

Talking of bargains, tickets on Fri are of course eye-wateringly expensive (one vanished while I was havering about) so I will get back to Liverpool Street at about 7.15 and whizz straight down. Can someone give me MU details again and pour me a drink in advance?

bigTillyMint · 04/02/2015 12:46

Great to both!

Will PM you MI

motherinferior · 04/02/2015 13:08

THank you BTM: I can even, thrillingly, get the waterloo and city line!

wordassociationfootball · 04/02/2015 13:27

Happy Birthday Mrs S!!! Hope you are feeling special.

Lalsy - I think it's you who is the crepey recipes archivist. I'd love to access them. How do I do that?

herbaceous · 04/02/2015 13:29

MI - excellent news! The most exciting element of course being the Waterloo and City line. Always knee-deep in Metros, I find.

Mrs S - a trillion gins and happy returns!

I have had my hair cut! A mere five months after the last one. I love it.

Further S&B news - I'm considering yet another coat. Uniqlo military coat, with detachable quilted lining. It would replace lots of others, which I would sell on eBay. Honest.

wordassociationfootball · 04/02/2015 13:29

Glad you can 'do both' on Friday MI. I hope you'll all have a wonderful time. It's quite the birthday season. Mine's a week away and DH has offered to replace my PC hard drive, which is actually really lovely of him if not very first flush-ish.
