Mine is to get my hair cut more often despite the fact that I hate going to the hairdresser

OP posts:
itsnothingoriginal · 01/01/2015 10:32

YY to getting hair cut. I do get mine cut quite regularly but am too tight to pay for a quality salon and it does show!

I'm also going to aim for quality over quantity with clothes this year. A few well made and well fitting items rather than lots of cheap supermarket/lower end chain store clothes.

muddlingalongquitenicely · 01/01/2015 10:42

I have a few
Get my skin sorted out
Hair cut regularly
Maintain eyebrows and nails
Buy decent well made clothes instead of cheap stuff that doesnt last (i lurk on the vogue thread a lot hoping to get inspiration for a shopping trip to london in april)
Lose weight and tone up

Hopefully · 01/01/2015 10:57
  • Lose the last 5-10lbs of baby weight, which are irritating me immensely.
  • buy (some, not too many) more cheap and cheerful clothes - I am good at buying occasional investment pieces but actually they need some cheaper fun stuff to make them feel fresh.
  • spend some more time on skincare etc, even if it's only the odd face mask:
OneLittleLady · 01/01/2015 11:04

muddling no need to just lurk on the vogue thread, join in, I'm certain you would get lots of pointers Smile

I need to just take better care of myself instead of forgetting or thinking it doesn't matter. It should matter and making excuses won't help me feel any better

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/01/2015 11:33

Since I had my hair cut short, I have to get it cut very six weeks at an absolute maximum (and it could probably do with being every four but can't afford that!). It has made me go to the hairdresser, as previously I'd avoid it for months and months on end.

My main resolution is to do with handcream. My hands are disgusting and I am determined that this will be the year when I actually find the best way to deal with them!

I also need to wear makeup more. I've not been very well and have been exhausted a lot of the time, but just because I feel ill and knackered shouldn't mean I can't shove a bit of mascara on every day.

god i have so much done and do so much I feel terrible reading this!
make up every day - colour every 7 weeks, cut every other one, exercise, handcream everywhere, etc etc

I think the secret is , is to have stuff where you would use it, eg nail files , not where it should be

ElizabethHoover · 01/01/2015 11:35

eyebrows tinted and shaped every month too vain

MarshaBrady · 01/01/2015 11:35

I guess I hope to find a good outfit for going out for drinks - having been saying this for ages now.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/01/2015 11:49

Nice top for going out for drinks

Or one with sleeves but expensive

MarshaBrady · 01/01/2015 12:02

oh yes like the sleeves one, would tuck in

HollyJollyXmas · 01/01/2015 12:12

I'm going to get my teeth whitened in the next few weeks, and really up my dental hygiene this year (floss EVER day etc!).

I'm on a frugal January thing unfortunately, as am looking for a job, but when I get that job (soon, hopefully!) I'm going to treat myself to a few good quality, stylish clothes. No more panic buying tons of ill fitting shit from New Look Grin

I'm growing out a really bad haircut at the moment, so am going to be hairdresser avoidant until mid 2015, unfortunately. But going to brave a new haircut by the summer time, hopefully.

mysteryfairy · 01/01/2015 12:43

I wear a mum uniform - skinnies, scarf, cashmere top, ankle boots - every day. Work is very casual so I even wear skinnies there as long as they are not blue denim. I astounded my mother over Xmas dinner with my comment that I have at least 15 pairs in regular rotation. (Best not to tell her I have a separate summer collection.)

I would love to wear something different, but don't know where to start. Just imagine everyone being totally incredulous if I wear a skirt.

Ujjayi · 01/01/2015 13:52

I am always rubbish with NY resolutions etc. So last summer I found myself doing the usual "next year will be different" thing, staring forlornly at my cellulite. I bit the bullet & started early!

Last September I completely overhauled my approach to diet & exercise. For the first time ever, I became an early riser - out of bed at 6am - workout & shower in time for DCs getting up at 7am. I ate very well but not faddy diet. I slept better than I had done in years & began pampering myself in the evenings as a way of relaxing. Swapped my merlot habit for scented candle habit & generally introduced all those idyllic Pinterest-worthy rituals into my life. Even little things: buying myself a beautiful cup & saucer to use for my tea etc. I felt better about myself than I had done in years & I honestly believe I became a better parent for it. So, I will be continuing with it through 2015 Wink

AppleSnapple · 01/01/2015 14:01

Slight derail here ujjayi but do you do an exercise video in the mornings? I seriously need an overhaul in my life but use the excuse that I can't fit it all in with kids- that's a cop out though! Well done on turning yourself around!

noddyholder · 01/01/2015 14:21

I used to do a load of the boring stuff sunday nights and then got a bit lazy so will go back to that. Really want better nails so have bought stuff to try and remedy those, mine are terrible chewed and bit scruffy any tips??. I am fastidious about skincare I use an oil and an intense nightcream not so much hair. I want to simplify my wardrobe slash neck black tops stripes and skinnies far too many. I am going to try and wear less make up day to day have only recently been confident enough and am nearly 50 I think less is more now

QueenCardigan · 01/01/2015 14:21

I'm pretty much happy with my wardrobe/beauty routine/exercise routine but my style resolutions for this year are..
-buy more shoes ( I've never really been a shoe person but I've very recently discovered the joy at a totally frivolous pair of shoes!)
-buy more dresses (I find dresses incredibly hard to fit due to long body)

  • buy no more nail polish or lipstick as I have enough (I've already said that I'll probrably break this resolution by March Grin)
  • no more coloured handbags. Much as I love them I find neutrals more versatile.

muddling come and join us on the vogue thread.

Ujjayi · 01/01/2015 14:29

AppleSnapple - I used to use DVDs but I get easily bored.

I now follow Tone It Up. There is a website which has a weekly exercise schedule together with follow-along videos (which I play either on my phone or iPad). There is also a YouTube channel (not used that tho). They are very "California Peppy" types but they are brilliant & the workouts tend to be short & intense so work perfectly to fit into a tight schedule. eg 15 minute HIIT (high intensity interval training) or 20 minute yoga, or sometimes just go out for a run/speed walk for 20 mins. They come across as really nice & not up themselves!

They have a nutrition plan which I subscribed to but tbh they have lots of recipes etc on their website & the principles are very straightforward (protein rich, low carb) but honestly just eating well, seasonally, fresh not processed & is not faffy, calorie counting at all.

happyfeet1 · 01/01/2015 14:48

I'm happy with my skin care routine and regularity of hair cut/colour already.

I have bought some Essi nail products from Boots and being giving myself weekly mani's and fortnightly pedi's so going to keep up with that.

I recently had a makeup over haul, went and had the colour match done at Boots as I knew my foundation was too dark. I was so sick of wearing fake tan year round and trying to have skin that I couldn't ever have so now I am embracing my natural colouring! Look much better for it too. I am wearing sunscreen every day (Clinique Super City Block spf 40 and acts as a primer too). I am sloooowly introducing lipsticks into my collection as never been brave enough to wear them, and my lips are quite red anyway, but after the colour match service at Boots they gave me a card with the shades of lippy to suit my tone so starting with some subtle ones and having fun with experimenting. I never ever wore eyeshadow either but bought a pallette by Sleek and have been watching YouTube for tutorials on how to blend etc, again having fun trying new looks so aim to keep up with all of that.

Although I am happy with my hair cut/colour routine as said above...I am aiming to wash it twice a week instead of once. May sound gross to some but I have a lot of hair so can get away with it and it's a PITA to be washing and drying it. I do feel better when it's fresh though and my hair looks better too so will try to wash it more often.

Diet exercise wise...my diet needs less sugar and more veg. I already drink a lot of water. I would like to lose a stone (been bf dd3 exclusively for 5 months and not lost a pound!) and aiming to do a little bit of exercise every day this month other than walking just to get me back in the habit of it.

I have been researching my colours too to enable me to ruthlessly sort out my clothes and get rid of what doesn't suit me, and to help me buy things that do suit me! Some great stuff on YouTube about it. I have worked out that I have warm undertones and suit spring colours. Going to use this knowledge to pick some nice clothes for when I return to the office (and have lost that stone in weight Wink at end of April).

So that's my plan for the year, all just things that help me feel better about myself.

ElizabethHoover · 01/01/2015 14:51

i have learned how to apply strip lashes this holiday flutters

noddyholder · 01/01/2015 14:52

I got those in my stocking lol

happyfeet1 · 01/01/2015 14:55

Oooh Elizabeth I might add that one I'm useless at them!

MadameLeBean · 01/01/2015 14:55

Get a fully toned and tight body Wink
(More running, more yoga and start weight training)

Make sure my nails are always looking smart (either shellac or short clean, filed and buffed)

Make an effort to dress better at work (new wardrobe - I've ruthlessly edited it and need to invest in some quality stuff)

MadameLeBean · 01/01/2015 14:57

Including good jeans finally as I chucked out all my crap pairs

ElizabethHoover · 01/01/2015 14:59

right here are my tips:

  1. buy the ardell demi lashes. they have a white glue that turns clear that is ace.
  2. Sit down with mirror
  3. measure and trim lash. ( i cut off two wodges off the end)
  4. put glue on top of left hand,
  5. lightly dip lash strip into it.
  6. Place on lashes ( not on skin) with some tweezers.
  7. Squidge down with fingers
