Properly moisturising shower wash - does it exist?

I may be asking for the moon on a stick, but here goes...

When the weather gets really cold, my skin gets really itchy. Body lotion helps but no matter how much it claims to absorb immediately, I still feel sticky after applying it.

So, are there any shower washes (gel/cream/oil) out there which actually DO moisturise, rather than just claiming they do?

LOccitane almond shower oil is fabulous and sometimes I put it in my bath-it goes all milky in the water Smile

It is often on offer in big sizes or double sets for a really good price.

Origins White Tea is very creamy & moisturising...

trinitybleu · 30/12/2014 18:29

another vote for Aveeno here. DD gets it on prescription

ChlorinePerfume · 30/12/2014 18:36

Fenjal. The fragnance is a bit live it or hate it though. I know some if the products are available fragnance free.

tethersend · 30/12/2014 19:00

Just came on to recommend Aveeno- can I ask what your DD has it on prescription for, trinitybleu?

Millionprammiles · 30/12/2014 20:40

I have very very dry and sensitive skin, prone to eczema and have found the body shop shea butter shower cream very moisturising. Have heard good things about Aveeno too from fellow eczema sufferers.

Madaboutthrows · 30/12/2014 20:47

Try Aveeno shower gel which helps my dry skin. The moisturiser is good too.

Kundry · 30/12/2014 20:51

You need to make sure your shower gel is soap and sulphate free (or at least sulphate light).

It's the soap and SLS which foam and dry your skin out.

Brands like Dove or Sanex annoy me as they claim to be moisturising or kind to skin but are still pack full of SLS. It doesn't matter if your shower gel is 1/3 moisturising cream if the soap and SLS are still stripping your skin.

Aveeno shower gel still has SLS but it's a minor ingredient, my ezcema prone skin gets on v well with it.

They also do this and have a whole range of long lasting moisturising body care products m.boots.com/mt/www.boots.com/en/Sanctuary-Long-Lasting-Moisture-4-Day-Moisture-Oil-Scrub-250g_1296511/

My fil brings back an olive oil based shower gel for me from Italy. I have a similar problem to you, and this works a treat.

notjustamummythankyou · 31/12/2014 07:46

Johnsons does a baby oil in a gel. You just need the tiniest dab and yousweep it over wet skin before drying off. Its brill and lasts for aaaages. You can find it near the nappies in boots!

notjustamummythankyou · 31/12/2014 07:48

(I know it's not a shower gel but I'm dead lazy when it comes to all this, and this takes seconds Grin

Lyndie · 31/12/2014 07:48

Boots Dermacare is excellent.

MilkThistle187 · 31/12/2014 10:03

I was going to suggest the l'occitane Almond too. It comes in a refill pack which is really good value and lasts me nearly a year

hollyisalovelyname · 31/12/2014 10:45

Fieldfare the name would be helpful Smile

hollyisalovelyname · 31/12/2014 10:57

Elave products don't have nasties in them ( or perfume).

fieldfare · 01/01/2015 18:05

Ah yes, it would be helpful. Am home now and have looked. It's in Italian but says Oliva bagnio by Phytorelax Labroratories. In a tall rectangular green bottle. Approx 6 euro I think.

Ujjayi · 01/01/2015 18:24

Possibly a dumb question: does the L'Occitane Almond Oil have a strong almond aroma? Or is it quite neutral?

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 01/01/2015 18:27

Ujjayi, it does have a distinctive fragrance, yes. Not neutral.

GaryShitpeas · 01/01/2015 18:44

Op try coconut oil as a body moisturiser after showering

It sinks in quick and is very very gentle and has turned my irritable skin that hates most moisturisers into silk Grin

Branleuse · 01/01/2015 18:46

try one of the faith in nature ones, or dr.organics. Avoid SLS and then moisturise with coconut oil afterwards.

hollyisalovelyname · 01/01/2015 21:20

Thank you Fieldfare

I second Nivea in shower moisturiser as you apply when you're wrt, rinse ofc and dry yourself as normal, it literally takes all of 30 secs and I've no need for extra moisturiser as it does the job. It's great if you can't be arsed with moisturiser after your shower, like me, but suffer with dry skin.

Dry body brushing is great for sloughing off the dead, dry skin and leaves your skin silky smooth after you shower too. Also very good for the lymph and cellulite too, i believe.

You need to go to a shop that sells black person body products. You may find what your looking for. A lot of black people moisturise every day to stop dry skin and shyness. That's what it's called. Baby oil will just dry it even more. Don't even try palmers. It does not work.
