Christmas night out outfit - need to look smokin hot

I'm meeting some very beautiful, skinny, fashionable people next Saturday and I need to look effortlessly glamorous and, as mentioned, smokin hot. I originally bought dress in Coast, but I feel a bit blah in it now, which isn't improved by knowing the very gorgeous women who will be there will be wearing similar style. So I got a notion to wear a pair of beautiful cream trousers. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a top to do them justice (pic of best I can find is attached, I'd like it for work, but it feels a bit mumsy for my night out). My alternative is the shorts and sparkly top combo - are shorts or my thighs acceptable for a Christmas party night?

If the consensus is against the shorts, I have 4 hours on Wednesday in which I could get to House of Fraser, M&S, Massimo Dutti, Primark, French Connection, Mint Velvet, Gap, H&M, Zara, Karen Millen, Monsoon and Oasis. I'm 5ft2, size 10-12, hourglass, big boobs and a wobbly belly. I'm pale with mid brown hair so jewel colours (except green) are good on me and I'm a bit afraid of anything patterned (the sequins above are my first ever). I have mulled wine I will happily share for all opinions and recommendations. Thank you!

Greenpixie, I really like that outfit, but it won't be dressy enough.

The Daily Mail comment is the nail in the coffin of the pink dress... Although in its defense, it's a fab dress but probably a size too big (I loved it so much and it was so cheap I bought it anyway). And I love that it's pink - red at Christmas should be left to holly berries.

I have yet to be convinced by shoe boots, but I will invest in some non-pointy/death-to-fashion heels Smile

I've resigned myself to throwing out my entire wardrobe after this thread. I am going to try to get a couple of hours tomorrow and head out again on Weds if need be.

Thanks to all for suggestions and opinions.

cream trousers and blue shorts not for winter. Spakly top lovely-I got massimo dutti coated skinny jeans this year which would look lovely with the sparkly top-

the coated jeans are fab.
pointy heels are back in from what I've seen, sorry all.

I basically agree with noelle. For a night out with fashionable types, I would wear all black though. I dislike the sequin top, the dress and the cream pants sorry. No to shorts of any variety in winter (unless they are leather and you are a model).

I would veer towards black coated skinnies and a black sequinned, silk/satin or sparkly top. Black pointy heels.
