Christmas night out outfit - need to look smokin hot

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 14/12/2014 23:13

I'm meeting some very beautiful, skinny, fashionable people next Saturday and I need to look effortlessly glamorous and, as mentioned, smokin hot. I originally bought dress in Coast, but I feel a bit blah in it now, which isn't improved by knowing the very gorgeous women who will be there will be wearing similar style. So I got a notion to wear a pair of beautiful cream trousers. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a top to do them justice (pic of best I can find is attached, I'd like it for work, but it feels a bit mumsy for my night out). My alternative is the shorts and sparkly top combo - are shorts or my thighs acceptable for a Christmas party night?

If the consensus is against the shorts, I have 4 hours on Wednesday in which I could get to House of Fraser, M&S, Massimo Dutti, Primark, French Connection, Mint Velvet, Gap, H&M, Zara, Karen Millen, Monsoon and Oasis. I'm 5ft2, size 10-12, hourglass, big boobs and a wobbly belly. I'm pale with mid brown hair so jewel colours (except green) are good on me and I'm a bit afraid of anything patterned (the sequins above are my first ever). I have mulled wine I will happily share for all opinions and recommendations. Thank you!

I really like the sparkly top but def not shorts of any colour, they just look wrong.

I would go sparkly top with black skinny jeans/pants or a black pencil skirt with heels. (Not the scary pointy ones).

Not convinced the leather skirt works with the top because both the skirt and top are quite loose. I think you need to go either loose top slim-fitting bottoms or vice versa but not both.

NoelleHawthorne · 15/12/2014 15:18

i say YES the scary pointy ones.

platforms are out out out

NoelleHawthorne · 15/12/2014 15:19

looks again

actually you may be right

but not platform

FruitBasedDrinkForALady · 15/12/2014 15:35

How very dare you slag off my scary pointy shoes! I love them more than DH anything else in my wardrobe. I am aware, however that they don't actually go with everything, so I will invest in something a bit more suitable if need be. And definitely no platforms Wink

I'm agreeing with everyone who has suggested black skinny trousers with a sparkly top. And some very nice heels. And black eyeliner.

LeoandBoosmum · 15/12/2014 16:10

You can still get heels that are not platform or pointy. Karen Millen have some gorgeous ones on sale, as did Whistles (not sure about now with salw having been on)

Chandon · 15/12/2014 16:49

I like the sparkly top with either the black skirt, or fitted black trousers.

And heels.

The shorts don't go (too summery), and the dress is nice enough but a bit Daily-mail-ish (you know, the DM always puts disgruntled middle class middle age people in that sort of dress. The DM has ruined a fair few dresses for me!)

Spidergirl8 · 15/12/2014 16:50

Sparkly top with indigo skinny or black jeans and platform shoe boot like these

Smoky eyes, plum lips and maybe a black and plum chunky bangle? Not sure what your hair is like, but would go for either messy waves or modern behave with sweeping fringe

Spidergirl8 · 15/12/2014 16:50

Modern beehive... I'm sure you don't need me to tell you behave Grin

NoelleHawthorne · 15/12/2014 17:28

No to those shoe boots. Too worky

nilbyname · 15/12/2014 17:34

That pink fitted dress is the most flattering, get that in grey/black or red with a massive statement necklace and you're away.

Everything else is too boxy on you and makes you look bigger than you are,

The pink dress is hellavu flattering!

The shorts are wrong, wrong colour and fabric.

The sparkly top is too boxy and detracts from your brilliant bosoms.

You have fantastic legs!

HermioneWeasley · 15/12/2014 18:03

I like the pink dress, with some contemporary accessories. Which means no to the pointy shoes (of doom).

You look great. Have a fab time

Greengardenpixie · 15/12/2014 18:09

totally agree with nilbyname. The shorts are all wrong for this time of year and do not go with the top. The top is too boxy. The pink dress is lovely on you...but the colour is not chrismassy. That dress in black or red and you will look amazing.

Greengardenpixie · 15/12/2014 18:10

Oh and i dont like those pointy shoes tbh.

Surreyblah · 15/12/2014 18:48

Except for the dress the clothes are loose / high neckline / conservative, Which doesn't seem the look you're going for, so vote for the dress with accessories, or (since you have nice legs!) pencil skirt or skinny jeans with the sparkly top.

Twinklestein · 15/12/2014 19:01

I think the pink dress is really unflattering.

Twinklestein · 15/12/2014 19:03

A more fitted dress would be better, it's too loose round the waist, and the ruching doesn't work for me either.

NoelleHawthorne · 15/12/2014 19:08

the pink dress is the outfit you wear to a WEDDING

Iggly · 15/12/2014 19:09

Get yourself a skirt like in petrol with a nice black or navy fitted top and wear with heels.

The pop of colour will be a wow as will the shape.

NoelleHawthorne · 15/12/2014 19:10

thats worky too

somebodythatiusedtoknow · 15/12/2014 19:12

Those pointy shoes look very dated.

Get the skinnes in indigo or black, sparkly top and sorted. You will look like you dress like that all the time rather than trying too hard.

Greengardenpixie · 15/12/2014 19:22

I wore this to a night out:

I wore inky blue skinny jeans. A lovely sparkly pendant and biker style ankle boots from clarks

I felt great.
People commented on how nice i looked especially my tunic. I wore it in red and its particularly sparkly. I bought the inky blue skinny legging jeans from next too.

Petal02 · 15/12/2014 19:28

Greengardenpixie - that's a fab outfit, I might try that myself :)

Greengardenpixie · 15/12/2014 19:40

Thank you :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/12/2014 19:53

No to the cream trousers.

No to the blue shorts - they look totally wrong. They are daytime summer shorts trying to be worn as a nighttime winter look, and it doesn't work.

The pink dress is more weddingy than party-ish.

I like the leather skirt but not with nude tights and court shoes, and it needs a more fitted top.

The sparkly top looks good - would be nice with black skinnies and heels, or with a short tube skirt and opaques.

I disagree with Noelle and really like those shoeboots. In fact, I've been trying to buy them for months but they keep being out of stock.
