Opinions on this coat

I really like this coat. I like that it is waxed so offers some rain protection but doesn't look like a walking coat!

I buy clothes from COS, Jaeger, Zara and Toast - so this style kind of fits into the style I like. However it isn't cheap so wanted to get opinions. What do you think?

I don't love it.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 13/12/2014 19:38

It's better in the navy and black colourway.

burnishedsilver · 13/12/2014 19:42

No, sorry.
Its a bit like a brown paper bag.

TiggyD · 13/12/2014 19:44

Evil German scientist Bond villain. I bet the blood just drips off it. (Possibly why the cuffs are that colour).

QueenQueenie · 13/12/2014 19:47

Sorry but it's yuk.

beeny · 13/12/2014 19:47

it is horrible.

LeoandBoosmum · 13/12/2014 19:48

I think that would be unflattering and add pounds! Also, I am really sorry but if I saw you in that (when it's fastened up) I'd assume you want to sell me hammers and nails... Sorry but since you ask I'd rather give an honest opinion.

It also reminds me of that coat Arkwright wears in Open all Hours:

I really like it. I also buy from the shops you do. I'm guessing your style suits the coat.

MrsSaginowsky · 13/12/2014 19:52

Looks like a potato sack.

brandyandcoke · 13/12/2014 19:53

Love it but you need to be really slim and gorgeous.

And do you really think £265 is cheap?

threepiecesuite · 13/12/2014 19:53

It doesn't look that price.

Bluegill · 13/12/2014 19:56

Cos have some nice waxed jackets at the moment at half the price.

TiggyD · 13/12/2014 19:56

Spidergirl8 - Please can you post pictures of the rest of your wardrobe so we can tell you what else to get rid of?

Spidergirl8 · 13/12/2014 20:03

Ah ha- so it is a marmite coat! Didn't expect all to like it, it's certainly not in a mainstream style. That is part of why I like though. I haven't seen the wax ones in COS bluegill, will check them out.

I think it's a bit sack-like. If you're over 5.10 and whippet thin maybe it would be ok though.

TiggyD · 13/12/2014 20:17

It's not a Marmite coat. Some people like Marmite.

TimelyNameChangey · 13/12/2014 22:17

That's what it means Tiggy....love it or hate it....like Marmite, there's no inbetween.

QueenQueenie · 13/12/2014 22:20

Yes Timely, but I think Tiggy is (correctly) pointing out that (almost) 100% of people loathe this coat... there may be lots of Marmite lovers... but no lovers of this (hideous) coat.

AlpacaYourThings · 13/12/2014 22:27

Well I quite like it, OP.

TimelyNameChangey · 13/12/2014 22:33

Queenie oh right! Doh.

Spidergirl8 · 13/12/2014 22:35

Well it is certainly a coat that rouses strong feelings in some....

It is made by a British designer and this particular design has a lot of cerdibility with both the British Fashion Association and various fashion critics. It is good to support up and coming fashion and I like fashion that veers from the norm/high street monotony.

That said, I wish there was somewhere local to try it on as I'd like to see what it looks like on. I am am tall and slim, but as with all clothing, always good to try before you buy!

queenbrunhilda · 13/12/2014 23:41

I quite like it too. Had a French Connection coat this shape a hundred years ago and it was great (squishier fabric though).

cardamomginger · 13/12/2014 23:55

Looks like it would let the cold in.

SoMuchForSubtlety · 14/12/2014 00:00

I usually like this kind of style, semi unstructured slightly edgy with a nod to tradition.

But if it makes the MODEL look fat...

BOFster · 14/12/2014 05:41

Being tall and slim is great, and fortuitous for pretty much all fashion. If you can carry off a sludge-coloured sack, then fair play to you. The best part of £300 is probably unnecessary though.
