I look like a fucking hedgehog

I had my hair cut short in summer - it looked fabulous Smile and I've still been pleased with every cut since. Until today.

I now look like a frumpy middle aged woman with the obligatory menopausal haircut instead of a youngish 47 year old with funky, cool short hair.

Yes, I know it will grow, but I feel like not stepping out in public til it does. I feel hugely exposed with a fringe half way up my forehead - never mind the risk of people seeing the angry red psoriasis patches on my hairline.

Hairdresser said she gets scared using the clippers, that cutting my hair makes her arms ache, that she's nervous of cutting my ear, and could I slump down in the chair because I'm too tall.

It's the end of another beautiful relationship Confused

Sorry it's long - I needed to get all that off my chest - dc are trying to be kind by saying it looks fine. It does NOT look fucking fine. I look like a man.Shock

Wow you look like a different person! You look lovely :-)

ElfriqueTheSantaHelpingLizard · 13/12/2014 14:10

That's so much better you'd never know it was a rescue job and you can certainly carry it off OP.
Hopefully as a result of the remedial work the salon manager will give that particular stylist some refresher training whether it's about listening or cutting.

Am impressed they fitted you in so quickly at this time of year and pleased for you that you're happier with it now.

AgentProvocateur · 13/12/2014 14:17

I know this isn't the point of the thread, but you have lovely eyebrows and nice tight skin (bad description, but meant in a nice way). I am a year younger, and I am starting to get saggy face skin and jowels Sad

IrishBloodEnglishHeart · 13/12/2014 15:20

Just read your thread. I am glad you got it sorted and a I just wanted to add that I think the new cut really suits you. It's young, fresh and tres gamine. I actually think it makes you look younger and cooler than the first pic you posted.

NeitherHereOrThere · 13/12/2014 15:40

I have to say that the latest cut suits you even more than the first one - much more trendy and younger looking. The middle cut was pretty bad though so the rescue cut is well worth it.

OftheTwilighttheDarkness · 13/12/2014 15:48

You do look young for 47 and you have nice brows.
I think your hair looks ok, it is maybe a bit blunt round the ears but nobody is going to think you look dreadful.

OftheTwilighttheDarkness · 13/12/2014 15:50

I have now seen the 'rescue cut' and it is fab, really cool. I wish I could have something like that but fear it would not work with jowls.

bigkidsdidit · 13/12/2014 15:52

This lAst cut is better than the first -far younger and trendier

BlueberryWafer · 13/12/2014 16:24

I think you pull it off!

TongueBiter · 13/12/2014 16:25

Thank you for all the lovely compliments - so very much appreciated. I'm feeling less like Judi Dench's younger sister now Grin

I can't see pics - am I being thick!
Just so intrigued now!!!
Someone tell me how to see!

CatsClaus · 13/12/2014 16:32

that's better....the bad do was just too heavy, looked like someone had just cut around the edges...too blunt for you.

the sides will grow quickly.... but it is much more fetching now.

noddyholder · 13/12/2014 16:36

The last picture of the remedied hedgehog cut is waaay cooler and more flattering than either of the first two result! I think it looks great and don't think you should go back to the long fringe

Milmingebag · 13/12/2014 16:38

Agree- this latest style is your best. It shows off your lovely features and looks chic.

Joycey29 · 13/12/2014 17:35

Aaaaahh - where are pics?

Izzy24 · 13/12/2014 17:47

I think the rescue cut looks really good !

I have to ask, what did you say to the hairdresser when you looked at the disaster cut ? I have never yet been able to answer that question with anything other than 'oh , great, thanks'.

Even if I then rush home, avoiding all mirrors, go straight to the bathroom and wah it all out.

TongueBiter · 13/12/2014 20:36

Izzy, yes, I bottled it! And assumed it was just short, rather than short and wonky Shock I was a bit apprehensive going back today but she wasn't around.

Just hijacking this thread but I had highlights the other day. At the side the salon (I tried a new one) they normally paint over the sides at front where I get slightly white. Not this time. I asked the stylist she said yes she did this but she didn't!

Also I was 'late' it had been pencilled in by them as 5.15 but I remember saying 5.30! I even got a text saying 5.30 to remind me but had huffy colourist and then she had to have help as she was running late.... So far have had 2 follow up texts so should I complain?

TongueBiter · 13/12/2014 22:12

Absolutely! State what you expected to be done, what wasn't done, and what you would like done to rectify it.

WowWowSauce · 13/12/2014 22:16

The rescue cut looks brilliant, and even better than the original one in July. Really suits you, OP.

polyhymnia · 14/12/2014 00:23

Much better!
Not sure why being Judi Dench's relative would be a bad thing. She's amazing. But perhaps you mean you wouldn't mind being her daughter but not her sister, even a much younger one.

FreakinScaryCaaw · 14/12/2014 07:24

I thought the same polyhymnia? Dench is fantastic.

polyhymnia · 14/12/2014 08:49

And has a haircut that is great for her.

CheckpointCharlie · 14/12/2014 09:00

I think your new one is even cooler than the one in the summer!

Dafspunk · 14/12/2014 09:06

You look amazing in the last pic - 10 years younger! I would take it with you to your next haircut and ask for same. Beautiful!
