Style and beauty

A pretty ring, but not an expensive one. In fact, a very budget one.

I want a ring. It's not an engagement ring or anything like that Smile, just a ring. But I would like it to be something for the long term, not something I will be bored of in a couple of years.

The budget is about £150, so I know we are not talking about a timeless, valuable piece of jewellery, but that isn't important to me.

But I have quite a specific brief. I have tiny hands, so it needs to be a very fine ring. It needs to be small, because anything 'costumey' or 'cocktail ring' just looks crazy on my wee hands. And it needs to be almost flat, because I can't bear the feel of wearing a ring that isn't flat (even my engagement ring is flat). And it has to be gold in colour, because silver makes my hands look awful.

Does my dream ring exist?

I've just sent the link to DH - he didn't screw his face up so there's hope yet!

I'd go with second hand/auction house - you will get something 4 times the value of retail

I bought this ring yesterday, it's Tiffany and current price of £895 - got it for £206 (yes, I'm ecstatic) Grin Its for my anniversary

This would be so simple if I could wear silver! Those Jeremy Heber ones, there are loads in silver that really fit the bill exceot for the fact that they are silver.

I like both of those, I like sapphires. I need a size J ring through. Is it possible to get a ring like that made smaller do you think? I know relative had a vintage ring (think 100 year old engagement ring, she knew it wasn't valuable as it had been passed down through generations and the original owner would have been quite poor) and was laughed out of the jewellers when she asked to have it made smaller as they said you could only do that with high quality materials.

Fucked up that link sorry, shame about no silver, that limits things but vintage is the way to go , you get loads for your money.

Dame I had that very same ring up on screen open in another window when you posted that, I think that one is lovely too. If the gold was round the outside and the silver in the middle, that one would be perfect. Although more expensive, obviously!

I love the look of silver but it looks so bad on my skin. I remember shopping for my engagement ring and saying to the lady that I wanted white gold and she looked at me and said 'it will look awful on you. I know it's the fashion and it's what everyone wants, but I promise you, you'd look better with traditional gold, even if it's not in fashion'. She got me to try two identical rings in the two metals and she was completely right. The white gold made my hands look wisened and much older. Silver does the same thing to me.

Very easy to get something made smaller - I pay about £20 to have it done

Having such tiny fingers might mean you get a bargain, the one above is all of your money and from 1908, good amount of gold

If you would do gold and silver combined, the head of the ring is gold then this amazing Tiffany sapphire ring is likely the biggest bargain ever. Again it's for tiny hands hence the very low price.

I haven't read the thread but I wanted to say to look in vintage jewellers. I bought a beautiful gold, sapphire and diamond half eternity recently for £150, probably would have been about £500 new. I have very tiny fingers hence the low price (she was finding it difficult to sell!)
It was something I had always wanted but thought I would have to save for ages to get it. I wear it every day. Enjoy taking the time to look around!
