I am a big woman. I saw some leather leggings that looked amazing on a model but would look terrible on me.

I really like those Nordic sweaters but they look awful on. Similarly, gilets? Look like life vests and expose the bottom of my fat tummy.

fur coats- I look like a cheap teddy bear, too busty and short
anything with buttons and a collar gapes open
sleeveless things make me look like a bodybuilder, anything with high neckline eg audry hepburn style dresses, polonecks, cowls, rollnecks are things of the devil
maxi dresses, empire lines, anything padded or quilted is bad

but I can get away with low cut skater dresses, 50s style stuff, any leggings and jeans I want and most tailored coats. As long as I dont look in a mirror....

bialystockandbloom · 14/11/2014 14:13

Mini(ish) skirts with tights and ankle boots. In fact, any skirts with tights and ankle boots, but I have stupidly muscly big calves but skinny ankles, so they hide the best part and just make me look like a rugby player. Hate winter, as I can never find shoes to wear with skirts and tights.

And shorts - any style at all just makes me look like I'm going hiking.

Marcipex · 14/11/2014 15:49

Bunbaker.....no, I just look pregnant in them.
The worlds oldest ever pregnant woman. Probably.

Charitygirl1 · 14/11/2014 20:54

Haha so many things already mentioned
Chunky knits
Cocoon coats
Loving the silky racer back with no bra
Biker jackets

It's not just things I can't get away with but more things that aren't 'me' - I may love the items but on me I don't. Leather leggings are fine tho!

BreakOutTheKaraoke · 15/11/2014 10:18

Mini everything. If I had the legs, I would just wear a miniskirt day after day, and every night out I would wear a sequinned minidress. Basically, Beyonces wardrobe.

Mrsgrumble · 15/11/2014 10:23

My legs are big, big calves. So I can't wear skirts much unless with thick opaques

Also I am so get so stuff drowns me

My arms are wobbly and I hate them - so sleeveless tops in summer are out

I don't have some good points though ;)

ChoccyJules · 15/11/2014 10:28

Summer dresses which don't need a bra and clingy jersey dresses.

ChoccyJules · 15/11/2014 10:29

I meant which you can't wear with a bra...so I can't wear them.

cloutiedumpling · 15/11/2014 11:00

Pencil skirts. I'm too fat and would be self conscious.

Twinklestein · 15/11/2014 11:11

Exactly GarlicNovember, like Katherine Hepburn.

mowglik · 15/11/2014 16:09

Ok so I wore (hobbled in) my high heel boots today and tried on some leather leggings just for a look, both of which I said I couldnt wear. Told oh about the leggings and he told me to get them asap so I guess there are ways/reasons to wear stuff that you normally wouldn't - will still only wear the leggings at home though lol

BurnThisDiscoDown · 15/11/2014 18:12

I would love to wear gilets but I have big boobs and bum so anything that doesn't nip in at the waist makes me look like a box on legs. Also short skirts but I have fat legs and funny knees, and skinny jeans but I look like a parsnip because of the big arse. I do look good in a pencil skirt though, and if in doubt I show a bit of cleavage!

WanderingTrolley1 · 15/11/2014 18:15

Skinny jeans. Or, any jeans, for that matter.

I have big, ol' legs.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/11/2014 20:01

Red lipstick. I have a small thin dogs arse of a mouth and I look like a transvestite in red lippie Sad

FamiliesShareGerms · 15/11/2014 20:14

Strapless tops - my shoulders look hideous without straps, even if they're just spaghetti ones

GarlicNovember · 15/11/2014 21:00

Mowgli, congrats on your leggings :)

There is far, far too much "I can't wear X because I've got disgusting, filthy, ugly body parts." It's a fair bet YOU are the only person who finds your shoulders/thighs/ankles/arse/arms/etc that repulsive. I mean, how repulsive can a normal human body part be? Answers on a single sheet, please.

I realised when people were posting about wearing shorts/minis with thick tights, most of you were saying you couldn't because your legs are different from the legs of a 6-foot-tall, seventeen-year-old, half-starved model Grin Well, these women look okay too, don't they?

Just get something different, wear it with attitude and see if the world caves in Grin I might even wear something 'girly' for the sake of team spirit ...

... I did say might!

Shorts , quite short ones but a bit longer then bum cheeks.
Tucked in shirts with trousers where the waist band sits half way on hip bones
Chunky knits
All of these make me feel uncomfortable as I'm larger than the average bare
Make up (but that is just out of laziness rather then it not suiting me)

MsBug · 15/11/2014 21:08

A teeny tiny bikini, designer shades, and nothing else. This would work if I were tall, slim and suntanned.

Sadly I am short, luminously pale and slightly chubby.

Valsoldknickers · 15/11/2014 21:10

Sleeveless / short sleeved tops - hate my thick wibbly wobbly arms
Skinny jeans with Converse - too short and would look stumpy

I would guess that alot of us aren't quite as bad / fat /short/ flat / skinny etc as we imagine though!

holmessweetholmes · 15/11/2014 21:20

Shirts. They look awful on me. It's a nork thing. If a shirt fits me in the body, it stretches across the boobs and gapes at the buttons. If it fits at the bust, it looks like a big shapeless sack elsewhere.

Fillybuster · 20/11/2014 11:49

Returning to thread to add:

Polo necks (I love them, but so don't suit me...it's a nork thing - somehow I get suckered into buying them sporadically)

Shirts (norks, again. And a very unflat tummy)

Racer back anything.

Strapless, backless anything.

I love my breasts but gosh, they are wardrobe-limiting....
