I bleed through everything. What do you wear at night? I am at a loss.

double sanitary protection and then big granny pants and big thick pj bottoms. I don't dare wear night dresses, even with the granny pants. I have loads of pj bottoms for this reason, so they can be washed straight away in case of, ahem, leakage

Greengardenpixie · 09/11/2014 10:44

Last night I had on exactly that and leaked through Angry Maybe get more PJs.

OneLittleLady · 09/11/2014 10:47

Have you tried different brands of sanitary stuff? I've found that, for example, lillets tampons work better for me than tampax because of the way they fit and that the cheaper towels, the big thick nappy like ones, work better than the thinner ones like always. Oh yes, definitely get more pj bottoms, loads of cheap ones from primark that you don't mind having to throw out. I have two drawers full of pjs because of my periods and they are in constant rotation before being thrown out

OhBuggeringBollocks · 09/11/2014 10:48

I second the thick nappy towels - I use the heavy maternity ones

OhBuggeringBollocks · 09/11/2014 10:49

Oh and I change them in the night.

And sleep on a towel

Rosebag · 09/11/2014 10:49

Fortunately I'm long past all of that but my DD really suffers. All of the above plus towel over the bottom sheet.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/11/2014 11:55

Sleeping on a towel doesn't work for me. I must move around too much in my sleep. I wear two nightime towels, one on top of the other, knickers and PJ bottoms but it still isn't enough sometimes, even with transexamic acid tablets too. Nightmare.

TheSpottedZebra · 09/11/2014 13:26

I do the lovely option of knicker and pad, then another knicker and pad. and the 2 pad is usually further back than the 1st.

I've also slept on a bed wetting mat when things have been bad - absorbs more than a towel. And I get up at least once in the night to change pads etc.

Have you been to Dr's to discuss the heavy bleeding? I'm quite evangelical about the fact that we're entitled to not be like this , it is a valid medical issue that deserves addressing.

specialsubject · 09/11/2014 13:54

what zebra said. Periods that are more than a minor inconvenience warrant medical treatment. It is 2014!

burnishedsilver · 09/11/2014 14:15

If you've got severe endometriosis there's not a lot they can do for you even in 2014. I've tried every surgery and medication except a hysterectomy, to no avail.

Sunflower6 · 09/11/2014 14:18

Have you seen those period pants that john lewis sells - diary doll pants they are waterproof and designed to protect against leaks? They might help you.

Rosebag · 09/11/2014 14:20

It's a huge towel Remus and we tuck it in crossways, although she's in a single bed…but I feel for DD and others in the same situation. I often have to tell her in the morning that there are stains on the back of her PJs.

wizbit93 · 09/11/2014 14:22

You need these: www.diarydoll.com
Absolutely fabulous. I wear two pads lengthways at night and then put these over my normal knickers just in case. I've slept much better since I bought them. Expensive but so worth it! Great for heavy days at work too.

Bluecarrot · 09/11/2014 14:32

Not an ideal solution but I used tena pants for post partum bleeding which sounds similar to what you are experiencing. Not sexy at all but def good at containing leaks.

Another possibility is using a menstrual cup. They hold a fair amount and can at least hold part of the flow. It's not for everyone though.

Bluecarrot · 09/11/2014 14:35

Also, I'm currently looking into leak free period pants. They have a leak resistant liner at the back to help prevent stains on outer clothing. I can't recommend any particular brand yet though.

anonitynonymous · 09/11/2014 14:37

I insert a Superplus Tampax (the orange ones) immediately before I go to bed.

I wear proper knickers with a full gusset (ie. not thongs - granny pants style) and an Always Ultra with wings pad. Always ultra are the thin ones and the wings really do stop leaking/outer clothing staining.

anonitynonymous · 09/11/2014 14:45

Also once when I was in France I got caught short and bought some OB
brand non-applicators in the highest absorbancy level.

www.ob-tampons.com/product-details/supertampons

I don't know if they sell them in the UK but they are extremely absorbant and leak proof.

Personally, I don't like non-applicator tampons as I can't be doing with the mess (blood on fingers) and I always feel it's always a bit unhygenic if you are out and about. Eg - even if you wash your hands before changing, it is almost impossible to get into a public toilet without touching something - lock, door handle etc.

However, I would put these in a home and they are amazingly absorbent. I think if I were back in France again, I'd pick up a packet as a back up.

If you don't mind non-applicators, I'd highly recommend them.

Greengardenpixie · 09/11/2014 18:34

I only wear towels. I have never got the hang of tampons. Thanks for everyone's replies. I have tried maternity pads and they are great. I donk know if i bleed heavily. I suppose i do. At nighttime its worse as i move and you dont have everything just staying in its place as you would if standing. Basically i havent had a period in 3 months...so its like boom your making up for it!!! Its irregular because i think i am perimenopausal. About a year ago, i was as regular as clockwork then this year its just gone to pot. I just wondered what everyone did at night. Definely get more PJ's and granny pants [ nice! ]

I tried Diarydoll pants after a flooding incident at work. They have a leak resistant panel. on the mini pill and no major bleeding since I got them so can't properly review them though.

DreamsOfFreddieInTheNight · 09/11/2014 20:08

Tena lady pads or knickers. Horrible but did make sleeping actually possible. Also try taking tranexamic acid (ask your doc or you can buy at boots) or ibuprofen, both of which make periods lighter.

fluffyfanjo · 09/11/2014 20:17

I second the diary doll pants. They really do work.

I use a moon cup and double up on night time pads and could still leak but these beauties manage contain everything and save my lovely white Egyptian cotton sheets.

Greengardenpixie · 09/11/2014 20:22

I have never heard of diary doll pants. Need to buy some asap!!! They sound fantastic. Thanks so much. The reviews on JLewis really does impress!!

Mooncup plus the biggest reusable pad sold by Honour Your Flow (known as The Whale in our house).

TwoLittleTerrors · 10/11/2014 08:19

I suffered really badly from this until I discover the mooncup. I use that with a large sanitary pad. Also adding a mattress protector under the sheets. I think I need those diary doll pants it seems!

MoonlitHorizons · 10/11/2014 10:56

Yes, DiaryDoll! Life savers! Used to have to buy new PJ's and put on old sheets every month - but no more.
