Looking for a gorgeous scarf

Rapunzel88 · 18/10/2014 22:49

I have decided I'd like to start wearing scarves. During the day- not just with a outdoor coat. I've never been a scarf wearer, but often think they look so chic on others. Any advice on good places to try? I want something that's not too huge- I'm quite petite, so I think those oversized things would really swamp me. Colour wise, I'm an Autumn (if you hold with such things), and am ideally looking for something dark blue/ teal/ green. Any ideas? thanks.

Have you looked in tkmaxx?
The one near us has a fab range of scarves.

Ujjayi · 18/10/2014 22:57

H&M have great scarves and cheaper than TK Maxx

Rapunzel88 · 18/10/2014 23:20

Thanks both. Just had a peek at H&m. What do you think of this?tablet.hm.com/gb/product/45449?article=45449-A#

I'd say the main colour is red. Have a look at Massimo Dutti's offering: www.massimodutti.com/gb/en/women/accessories/scarves-c891002.html

Hobbs feather scarf

jessabell · 19/10/2014 09:00

Try primark sainsbury tesco. Depends how much you want to pay.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/10/2014 09:04

I'm buying this: tablet.hm.com/gb/product/41246?article=41246-A. Uniqlo also have affordable cashmere scarves. I'm evangelical about fabric composition and cashmere is my fave kind of scarf - soft, warm, not itchy, no static, doesn't go limp / floppy.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/10/2014 09:05

I have no idea show this Scottish eBay seller sells cashmere w silk scarves for £18.50, but she does and they are gorgeous, big, warm and soft. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261519483479

superstaary · 19/10/2014 13:48

Belinda have you bought from the eBay seller....those scarves look lovely

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/10/2014 14:07

Yes, I have two of those scarves from eBay. Might get a navy one, too.

LittleG69 · 19/10/2014 14:16

Thanks for the ebay scarf seller heads up belinda, I've just ordered one

GinGinGin · 19/10/2014 14:18

My friend makes these beautiful infinity scarves -

Gem124 · 19/10/2014 14:47

I'd def try primark as they do loads of different ones for £4-£6 so you can get a few to get an idea of what suits you and what you like then can get something special. Next do lovely ones and TK Maxx is best for quirky ones xx

Rapunzel88 · 19/10/2014 17:04

Thanks for all the great suggestions- now I just can't decide what to go for. Those e bay cashmere/silk are beautiful, but a bit on the large side for me. I agree with you Belinda, it's really worth going for a quality material. Tempted by this, but wondering if I should ease myself into the scarf-wearing world with something a bit simpler.

I am going to get a couple of those ebay cashmere/silk scarfs. Do you think that I could chop off the fringe bits without ruining them? I might also buy a couple as presents: are they nicely packaged?

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/10/2014 21:31

Oslo - if you chopped off the fringed ends, you might need to then either unravel it a bit or hem it. I haven't chopped them, but it's a good idea if the hanging bits don't work for you. Re packaging, they came in clear plastic "sleeves", when I bought them, so you could just put wrapping paper over the top. I bought about 5 colours and returned the ones I didn't want and they were very nice about it.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/10/2014 21:32

Rapunzel - square silk scarves can be tricky to wear - maybe be sure you can find a way to tie them that doesn't look air hostess-y?

OsloGin · 19/10/2014 21:38

Thanks Belinda I will have a go!

Rapunzel88 · 19/10/2014 21:52

Yes Belinda, I see what you mean! I'm wary of anything that has too much material as I think It will swamp me, so perhaps I need a long oblong shape, rather than a square?

SofaCanary · 19/10/2014 22:11

I just ordered two of those ebay beauties as well (could this be the new MN scarf?), you should be on commission Belinda Grin

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 19/10/2014 22:18

Rapunzel - maybe go to a shop, esp a dept shop, and try different ones on?

sofaCanary and Oslo - hope you like them [feels nervous]. Grin at commission - wouldn't it be lovely? Could buy even more clothes [bliss]

Shosha1 · 19/10/2014 22:18
