Are these shoes ugly?

I'm on the hunt for comfy black shoes for work. At the moment I'm wearing boots that are a size to small that are angering my bunion :(

But every pair of flat shoes I like I can tell probably won't be comfy (I can't wear completely flat shoes because my ankles start to ache, so I need something with some support!)

I have found these:

[link]m.evans.co.uk/mt/www.evans.co.uk/en/evuk/product/shoes-250471/flat-shoes-1880841/evans-sian-black-casual-shoe-2960259?bi=25&ps=24[link]

...but they just look...chunky?! I think they look a bit too old for me (I'm 24) and I'm sure they would look awful with leggings or skinny jeans that I sometimes wear for work. I'm a bit stuck basically!

I also likes THESE:

[link]m.evans.co.uk/mt/www.evans.co.uk/en/evuk/product/shoes-250471/flat-shoes-1880841/evans-paula-black-strap-sporty-pump-2694644?bi=25&ps=24[link]

but I worry that they wouldn't have as good support. Looking at ones with the strap on the top simply to stop them falling off my feet (I need EEE wide fitting and sometimes they slip off when walking)
Honest opinions welcome!

The first paid are hideous. The second pair are ok.

burnishedsilver · 17/10/2014 21:22

Pair....not paid!

Jumblebee · 17/10/2014 21:23

Ugh burnished I knew it Hmm I was having debates in the shop with DP over to go for the slightly nicer shoes or the "fugly" ones.

I think I just need some feet surgery so that normal shoes will fit!

They would only be passable with uniform trousers, at a pinch. The second ones has poor reviews for comfort. I got my work shoes from Gabor. Slightly old lady ish but mine look good with trousers and a very comfy.

HaPPy8 · 17/10/2014 21:25

I think they are fine for work.

ByTheWishingWell · 17/10/2014 21:25

I prefer the first pair, but wouldn't wear them with leggings or skinnies. I'm not very stylish though Wink

FamiliesShareGerms · 17/10/2014 21:28

Neither will win you awards for style, but if they fit and are comfortable they're fine for work

Jumblebee · 17/10/2014 21:28

Bythewishingwell neither am I, I don't have the money or taste to be very stylish (or the figure, come to think of it!) Confused

I wouldn't mind wearing them with my bootleg trousers because you wouldn't be able to see them. I'd just feel like a frump next to all my young (impossibly stylish, slim, pretty) colleagues who all obviously have normal sized feet.

Wahh!!

WestEast · 17/10/2014 21:28

I'm a nurse and the first pair were my last pair of work shoes.
Evans shoes are shit as well.
Have a look at clarks, the do a fair range of wide fitted, slightly heeled shoes.

WestEast · 17/10/2014 21:29

Oh and I'm a size 9, wide footed bugger Grin

Jumblebee · 17/10/2014 21:30

Westeast thank you, I shall have a look on the website Smile I rarely buy new shoes but my last pair of comfy boots literally fell to pieces because I wore them every day for over a year. My new pair were very reduced so I thought I could justify buying them in the next size down, thinking they'd stretch. They didn't and I have the blisters to reward me Confused

WestEast · 17/10/2014 21:35

How about these? I hate shopping for shoes due toy paddle feet, I feel your pain!

Jumblebee · 17/10/2014 21:39

Westeast I had just come back to post a link to these asking for opinions! I'm on a bit of a budget so £35 is probably about as much as I could spend, but they look like they have a little more support in them?

It's the worst isn't it?! When people buy lots of lovely, pretty shoes and I'm just like "yeah, my clowns feet would look GREAT in those!" :-/

Honestly go to clarks! I buy new work shoes about once a year on average. I tell the staff what I'm looking for, they bring a catalogue out, show me what they think will work and then bring the shoes out. It's the most painless shoe shopping I've ever had! I had a problems with one pair, the sole on one shoe came loos end they just swapped them without question!

theonlygothinthevillage · 17/10/2014 21:50

Jumblebee, I just clicked on WestEast's link - if you choose the patent ones, they're reduced to £28 (from £35). Not sure if that would work for you!

Of the ones you linked to originally, I prefer the second pair.

FWIW I bought Clarks brogues and they're smart and super comfy.

Jumblebee · 17/10/2014 21:51

I decided to bite the bullet and get the Clarks shoes and got to proceeding to check out and there was an error Confused I'll be near a Clarks tomorrow so I shall pop in and see if they have them, then at least I can try them on!

I used to buy shoes from New Look but they don't seem to stock many size 9 wide fits in store as I never find any. Then I started getting the ankle pain and switched to boots (even in the summer!) so I'm used to cheap and cheerful. My last pair were £5 from shoezone and I wore them for work once and once I sat down I couldn't stand up without hobbling. Definitely think I need to invest in some better quality shoes Smile

what about these!

JavaSparrow · 17/10/2014 21:54

To be offensively blunt first link is hideous, second is fine.

If you wear trousers for work there are loads of lovely flat boots around that may be more comfortable too. These vípers lovely people on S&B have cost me a fortune some great recommendations. Go to search and type in flat boots.

JavaSparrow · 17/10/2014 21:58

Sorry, I opened this before all the replies.

I would agree with the new look suggestion though. Not tried clarks....

Jumblebee · 17/10/2014 22:04

Java I need blunt, blunt is kindness for people with no style (ie me!) I am a boot fan but I think I need something that's a bit more summery (even though winter is coming!) BUT, saying that, I will need to get new boots as mine do hate my feet!

Hydepark I actually really like those but they're extremely a tad out of my price range Confused

Theonlygo thank you! Grin I do love a bargain! I'm not sure if patent shoes are less comfy or not? They look less comfy but I suppose I'd have to try them on! I think if I don't see them in the shop I may order them and if they don't feel right I can exchange for the other ones. Oh how I hate shoes Hmm

My eyes!! Yes, FUGLY!

lordStrange · 17/10/2014 23:24

I'm going to second the Clarks brogues suggestion. I love a brogue! And very comfortable.

saoirse31 · 18/10/2014 01:12

Try ecco... not stylish but not ugly.. and v v comfortable

ChippingInLatteLover · 18/10/2014 01:19

ecco are expensive though aren't they?

Jumble why not buy some boots now for the winter and save up to buy some more summery ones next year, wearing each for half a year each with 'ring the changes' and you'll still get a year out of them.

I think give what you have said, something without a top strap would be a bit of a mistake, don't you?
