I need to buy new beauty products (cleanser and moisturiser) without spending a fortune. I use to use Clinique but have just run out. Any recommendations? Smile

So, how is there any justification for buying expensive skincare products when, clearly, there are much cheaper products that do the job just as well?

PorkyMinch · 17/10/2014 06:53

Another vote for Soap and Glory. I got their Ultimelt cleanser (which is one of the most effective I've ever used) and one of the moisturisers and a big bottle of lovely shower cream for £22 in Boots the other day on three for two.

Ponds cold cream removed with a hit clot, amazing on my temperamental skin as is the anti wrinkle cream!

JRsandCoffee · 17/10/2014 06:56

Hot cloth that should be....

Bunbaker · 17/10/2014 07:05

I prefer hit clot Grin

I just roughly calculated a running score of the recommendations, excluding the don't likes and the where to buy:

Nivea 18
Superdrug 12
Aldi 9
Coconut Oil 7
Olay 6
Body Shop 5
Asda 4
Avene 4
Lidl 3
Soap 2
Soap and Glory 2
No. 7 1

Looks like nivea is the winner!

Bunbaker · 17/10/2014 07:12

I wouldn't class no7 as being particularly cheap.

codandchipstwice · 17/10/2014 08:25

I can't use nivea, garnier, l'oreal or aldi/lidl products as have really sensitive skin. I do, however, currenly love www.superdrug.com/Superdrug/Superdrug-Hot-Cloth-Cleanser-With-Muslin-Cloth-150ml/p/516251#.VEDC0PldXAk it's as good as liz earle for sure just doesn't smell as nice, but doesn't smell awful and a couple of drops of essential oil would fix it if I cba

For moisturiser I am loving www.boots.com/en/Boots-Essentials-Fragrance-Free-Moisturising-Cream-100ml_869558/ which is £1.50 - so that's £4.49 for the both.

I find the boots cream v similar to the new clinique dramatically different moisturiser and a fraction of the price.

I would also add in the aldi serum if you have one nearby - weirdly it doesn't set me off like the face creams do. It's £3.49 and I much prefer it to either the lancome or l'oreal ones I've tried - link www.aldi.co.uk/en/product-range/health-beauty/lacura-skincare/skincare-range/skincare-product-detail-page/ps/p/multi-intensive-serum-renew/

I have a myriad of skincare, I am doing no spend until I have used up all my stuff, and have avene/la roche posay/clinique/clarins/various natural lotions and potions, and the above are all my go tos over and above my other stuff.

Wineoclock81 · 06/01/2018 16:50

Superdrug hot cloth naturally radiant cleanser is my current evening cleanser choice.... simples age resist wipes and day cream are my cant-do-withouts......... the matching face wash also works well. All under a 10er each and often on special offer....

JoyceDivision · 06/01/2018 17:55

Lady who does beauty trwatments uses rosewater as cleanser or toner, can't remember which, told me to go to indian supermarkets to buy a cheap bottle. She has amazing skin!

grannytomine · 07/01/2018 17:31

I like the aldi moisturisers but I tried the serum and had a terrible reaction, it looked like a chemical burn.

Bombardier25966 · 07/01/2018 19:41

Zombie thread ...

goose1964 · 07/01/2018 21:30

I use BeeGood honey and propolis cleanser, it's one you use a hot cloth with. I'm very proud of my moisturiser, it's Pond's ant aging an cost £1 in the pound shop

harrietsoton · 07/01/2018 21:56

Cleanser: Garnier Micellar Water, lush Ultrabland

Moisturiser: Vaseline Grin I have seen Garnier Moisture Bomb products everywhere

As you have sensitive skin (and not normal skin where you can basically slap anything on) I would recommend spending a bit more on your skincare. Even just using a 3 for 2 offer at boots or something so you can try la roche posay or Eucerin for example

harrietsoton · 07/01/2018 21:56

Didn’t realise this was old oops
