I discovered DOUBLE CLEANSING last night!

I knew what it was but didn't do it properly , just used some micellar water and used a warm flannel afterwards.

My skin has been dreadful the last week, dry and flaky and it didn't matter how much moisturiser I used it was still dry, like sand paper dry!

So I vaguely remembered Jo Fahley (?) The Beauty Bible woman saying cleansing is more important than moisturising as it doesn't matter how much moisturiser you use if your skin isn't properly cleansed it won't absorb it.

Sooo,I dug out some Body Shop aloe cleanser, took off my make up with it and then used it again and removed with a muslin flannel and warm water. Then moisturised.

Woke up this morning and my skin feels incredible!

Definitely going to carry on doing it. I understand Caroline Hirons is a big fan. I spent all evening reading her blogGrin

I'm going to get some body shop Camomile balm cleanser as she says it's similar to clinique take the day off and the Emma Hardie cleanser.

I can't tell you what a difference it's made,I was despairing, my skin was dire!

I just applied foundation and it's gone on like I've used a fantastic primer or something!

So you use a cleansing milk with cotton wool and then again with a wet cloth?

DHandhisgrossfoot · 14/10/2014 10:56

Works just as well if you cleanse and then clean again with toner on a cotton pad.

DHandhisgrossfoot · 14/10/2014 10:57

I just cleanse with a steaming hot flannel. Let it sit on my face for a few seconds to open the pores for a deeper cleanse.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 12:02

I think whatever you do, be it cleanse with cotton wool or cleanse with a hot cloth you do it twice. The difference is incredible.

Sounds simple enough!
Must be better than my usual routine of sleeping in my makeup..

PrivateJourney · 14/10/2014 12:18

I've been doing it with Aqueous cream and a hot cloth for the last 6 months or so. I wasn't sure if it was the much more gentle cleanser, or the double cleansing but the difference is astounding. Spots few and far between when I've had "teenage" skin all my life and it feels so much better too, softer and smoother.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/10/2014 12:23

Along the sand lines as hot cloth cleansing, if you have access to a sauna - get in there!

I use the sauna & steam rooms at my gym 2-3 times every week. It's had an amazing effect.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/10/2014 12:23

*same, not sand, FFS!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 12:30

I quite fancy a facial steamer actually and I know ds would use it too

DHandhisgrossfoot · 14/10/2014 15:07

Just pour boiling water from the kettle into a bowl, towel over head, job done! Way cheaper than a facial steamer. Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 16:00

Yeah but it mucks up your hair that way Wink

My skin has improved no end since I started doing this. I use a balm cleanser first (Clinique) then a cream cleanser (clarins), wash off both times with a warm flannel.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 18:12

I can't believe the difference today, just inspected my face-no flakes at all, skin is smooth and make up all in place. Stunned!

Oh I may try this as my skin always looks so dull and grey Hmm

Usually I use a cheap face wipe Blush

Shop · 14/10/2014 20:34

It made a huge difference to my skin too.
Can't imagine just doing it once now :)

itsbetterthanabox · 14/10/2014 20:39

Could I use miscellar water twice for the same results do you think? I usually use that in the eve.
I usually use a wash off gel in the morning in the shower but if I used that twice at once my face would crack with dryness.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 21:38

Try it and see if you feel a differenceSmile

I always do this as I need to cleanse about 3 times to get make up off and my skin still feels 'dirty'. Does everyone use something else first to remove make up or am I doing it wrong. I use elemis cleanser (like a milk in a pump bottle) and a flannel then toner sprayed on and wiped off with cotton wool.

Wadingthroughsoup · 14/10/2014 22:02

Ooooh. I need some lessons here.

I don't cleanse at all...is that bad? I'm guessing that is bad. I don't wear make-up so I don't have anything to remove, but even so... I do wash my face in the shower, usually with shower gel or whatever is to hand. Should I cleanse? I don't really like those lotion cleansers very much, so this hot flannel thing- is that just literally putting a hot flannel on your face? Is that all there is to it? And I should do it twice, you say? Any advice appreciated.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 14/10/2014 22:10

Wading, I'm the same. Watching to see replies.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 22:17

I have worn make up since I was 14 so I can't remember what it's like washing my face without out-I don't suppose you need toGrin

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 14/10/2014 22:49

I would avoid shower gel as that will be very drying as it'll be soap based.

OP posts:
DHandhisgrossfoot · 15/10/2014 00:19

Wading, yes, I don't like using too many products so I get my flannel steaming hot and clean my makeup off, then I rinse the flannel off and lay it on my face for a few seconds for the heat to open my pores, then scrub again, then wipe my skin with toner on a cotton pad before putting on olive oil to sleep in.

singaporeswing · 15/10/2014 03:37

I normally cleanse once with micellar water to remove make up etc and then again with either a balm and warm flannel or with Alpha H and flannel.

It is definitely a skin changer.
