Wearing wellies to the office - what is the right thing to do?

Does anyone wear wellies to and from work and if so what do you change into?

We've had very wet weather this week and the temp in our office hads worn her Hunters in and changed into leather mule slippers in the office. I can't help but feel she should change into shoes.

Ach I walk about in my bare feet and socks all the time. Wouldn't give two hoots if someone was wearing slippers

Where do you all live that you wear wellies to work?

I never see anyone wearing wellies to work. I live in a rural area and people only wear wellies when it snows or if they are in a muddy field. They are not considered a fashion item round here.

The farmers would laugh at people wearing wellies to a town or city when it is only raining.

I think it probably depends on whether your office ever has visitors/clients, or the kind of visitors/clients who'd expect business dress. Personally have seen a colleague not just in slippers but also pyjamas and dressing gown....

Well lucky for all the wellies wearing townies there aren't many farmers around to comment Wink

I have to walk through a field which turns into marsh with the slightest drizzle to get to the bus stop and I'd rather have dry feet than wet mud caked ones.

When it's wet I wear willies to work and change into flat fold up ballet pumps for the office

I work in a solicitors also and to get to work wear these (had a bad fall the other week and wanted a safe sturdy shoe to get to work in as scared of falling again)

clareyh12 - your post made me smile. Auto correct?

my mother used to be a low grade civil servant for the benefits agency and her office was full of middle aged women like hee wearing slippers in the office - it was very odd!....

bigTillyMint · 28/11/2014 21:31

I wear trainers to walk to work but I keep a couple of pairs of shoes at work to change 8 to. Surely she could do the same?

cindydog · 28/11/2014 21:35

The photo gives a new meaning to 'shoe up the arse' Smile

cindydog · 28/11/2014 21:36

as in if you dont hurry up , it will be a shoe up the arse.

janneyhu · 29/11/2014 09:55

When the weather is bad I've worn willies and not bothered with shoes.

The reason is just practicality - I have to walk my son to school and then walk on to my office - with umbrella, handbag, carrying my son's school bag and holding his hand my arms are full without extra hassle!!

The office is carpeted throughout so I can manage without shoes.

mewkins · 29/11/2014 13:23

People in our open plan office often walk around with no shoes on in the summer. Apart from that most people are resonably smart. If not customer facing, I wouldn't find slippers offensive.

LadyFairfaxSake · 29/11/2014 14:02

I work in London and often see people wearing wellies when it's not cold or wet, just as if they were ordinary footwear.

ejayne · 01/12/2014 10:53

Can't see why slippers would be a problem.

I often wear willies to the office and change into slippers for comfort.
