Wearing wellies to the office - what is the right thing to do?

Does anyone wear wellies to and from work and if so what do you change into?

We've had very wet weather this week and the temp in our office hads worn her Hunters in and changed into leather mule slippers in the office. I can't help but feel she should change into shoes.

I agree with you. Slippers at work is a bit . She should bring shoes to change into.

I leave heels and ballet pumps at the office so I can wear any footwear for my commute and still be smart when I get there.

Slippers in the office only acceptable if you have a broken toe or something that prevents you wearing proper shoes imo.

I keep a couple of pairs of heels at my desk so can change when I get there (after having tramped soggy boots through reception and up the stairs ).

I've done it.

We live on a farm and when we has bad snow I wore my boots (DuBarry) to the office and changed into slippers.

I suppose it depends a bit on what your office is like, but unless you work somewhere either very arty or very family/relaxed then slippers aren't really appropriate.

I often wear wellies travelling in if it's very wet / snowy and I always change into proper shoes. It's not like the weather inside the office has changed from normal.

The only time I wear wellies to work is when it snows. In bad weather I wear boots, but not wellington boots.

Depends where you work. In a former job, I used to walk in to work in wellies and change into slipper boots - because the office was blinking freezing and there were only four of us working there - most of whom also left wellies at the door. Plus, the office was inside a building on a working farm - not the sort of place clients would call in to.

But, in another job, I wore wellies in and changed into heels or pumps once in the office, as it was a bigger place in a town, and external visitors were often about.

I agree with a previous poster, are you sure that they're slippers?

The fashion at the moment is for shoes that look like slippers. You mentioned they're leather, so they could be shoes.

However, if she is in her slippers, that's ridiculous. Of course she should change in to a pair of shoes when she gets to work!

I know what people mean about shoes that look like slippers, but they are definitely slippers. They look reasonable smart and are light blue so not like fluffy bedroom slippers. Someone suggested she should be wearing proper shoes, but she has'nt taken any notice and is in them again today. She is on reception but apart from this always look well groomed and business like.

I would imagine that for health and safety reasons you are supposed to wear proper shoes at an office workplace.

Her manager or someone from HR should have a quiet word with her and explain that she needs to be in proper footwear tomorrow and if she isn't she gets sent home to change (or I supose she could wear her wellies!).

LEAVE THE POOR GIRL ALONE!!

As long as she look ok I don't see the problem. If she's comfy she'll be happier and more productive.

I don't think I'd bat an eyelid at someone wearing slippers in our office, though I think our sole dress code rule is "please wear clothes". :)

What kind of dress code is there in your office?

In my office, we are expected to look smart and dress professionally, so slippers wouldn't be acceptable - unless there was some sort of medical reason why you couldn't wear normal shoes.

Just found our dress code, courtesy of our CEO at the time. It is "you must wear something".

Never come across slippers but must confess I go shoeless most of time.

I work in a buiding society branch so usually people can't see my feet!!

I have an hour and a quarter journey to work each way by bus train and walking so it's nice to slip my heels off. If I'm with a client I put my shoes back on. If I'm in tousers and ankle boots though I leave them off and just go im socks.

I rember once I was with a client in the interview room and she asked inf i had anything on my feet I said only socks and she just laughed

I have several changes of shoes under my desk as in the wet travel to work wearing boots, not very often willies, more knee high leather type ones, but then I stops raining or the heating is on high and I get too hot so wear ballet flats or heels that I have in my desk drawer.

I'd never wear sleepers at work or anything like ugg boots, but then we have a smart dress code. They even get a bit sniffy about ballet flats, as they are deemed casual shoes.

We have a strict dress code at work so noone could get away with anything but smart shoes, I have a small (ahem) selection under my desk. I travel in with wellies at the moment and change immediately. Am normally the first one in so can get changed before anyone spots the wellies:)
I have never heard or seen anyone wear slippers to work.

I thought about bringing flats in but my boss is ok with me going shoeless thank God!!

I work for a firm of solicitors and in the autumn / winter wear knee-length boots to the office but often take them off.

Never found it an issue at all.

Slippers in the office is only okay for children in need fund raising otherwise you wear shoes. On days when I've been on my feet all day for events I have been known to kick off my shoes and just walk round in my tights but only after important guests have left!
