TALL longish, waterproof, vaguely stylish everyday coat?

TheDogsMissingBollock · 07/10/2014 14:57

Clearly too much to ask! Am 5'11 and trying on coats in high street, find they're sort of ok in sleeves but just skim my bum and waist cuts in just under my boobs so what might have been a flattering cut, so isn't! Have searched on here and realise I should probably go Scandi- like the Didrikson but even there, the Thelma for example is only "knee-length on women of average height" so at say 4-5" taller than the average Scandinavian woman, it's still going to be too short. and cut wrong! Any recommendations? Which IS the longest Didrikson ie vaguely knee length please?
Other possibility is a Seasalt duvet- looking coat, below knee on photos so may suit.
Have also checked the v limited collection of tall on line - gap/next, asos etc and there's nothing.
Help please!

Oh and just to add, needs to be long lasting so not into new look etc. and HATE Long Tall Sally! How long is the North face artic parka and can it really withstand lots of rain? I need a practical all weather dog walking coat which ideally is not like a sack...

No suggestions but I'm looking too so bumping ever hopeful someone wiser will come along!

Passthecake30 · 07/10/2014 18:09

I am 6ft and have 2 didriksons, a rain mac and a thicker one (can't remember the names), they come to about mid thigh but the arms are lovely and long!

TheDogsMissingBollock · 07/10/2014 18:22

Thanks, Pass. So do they fit better overall- length, waist etc? Are they worth the extra money and lack of being able to try on 1st? Think i saw the Mary looked longish but nowhere can i find lengths of different styles! Seasalt one also tempting as should be long! But a little too frumpy and few colours... Long- glad I'm not alone, hope we can get some ideas on here. Tempted by drijson but really really would like close to knee length, as they're meant to be. Why is that do much too ask?!

I was looking at the Seasalt one, was it the Janelle as it does look knee length and is the only waterproof one i've seen that looks that long, I'm 5ft 10.

i have Merrell Wakefield (Ellenwood) and the sleeves are long on that but it only comes to mid thigh on me, its OK though, nice and warm and waterproof.

Landsend have a chalet coat which is 44 inches long in their tall section but its only water repellant, looks warm though.

LightastheBreeze · 07/10/2014 18:41

I just measured the Wakefield and its 37 inches from where the hood zips to the bottom at the back and is about 3 inches above my knee.

I once bought a Sandwich coat which was clearly designed for someone much taller than me (but I bought it anyway cos I liked it). Their online shop doesn't ship to the UK but you may be able to track the brand down in department stores or boutiques etc

TheDogsMissingBollock · 07/10/2014 19:36

Thanks for the tips. Light- yes, was Janelle, also like the Plant hunter style but colours don't suit me sadly.

The waist fits in a better place and they go past my bum and then a bit more...have checked the names now..I definitely think the Thelma is well worth the money for a fab fitting waterproof coat and I would get the same again but it looks like it will last forever. I have the Mary as my winter coat and I would like it to be slightly warmer for freezing days but it's by far the best fitting coat I've ever had. There are drawstrings inside so they don't swamp the waistand they are pretty much at the right height (I'm 6ft 1/2" with 36" legs for comparison)

Passthecake30 · 07/10/2014 22:08

The Mary is 37-38" long at the back from the nape of neck to bottom of coat

HRHQueenMe · 07/10/2014 22:11

I have the Didriksson Lindsay which is thigh long at front and knee at the back. Its warm and toasty and lovely. I need to sell swap it shortly for a smaller size and so trying to figure out which one to go for next. Liked last years Taylor which was lovely.
BTW vikingkids online still stock the Celeste which is long like the lindsay.

TheDogsMissingBollock · 08/10/2014 09:40

These are all so helpful, thanks! How tall are you, HRH so I can compare?

I have a lovely parka from protected species - you can google them. Expensive, but stylish and ticks all the boxes and will last forever. Highly recommend

mkmjimmy · 08/10/2014 10:14

I keep recommending this one

north face

It's stylish - I wanted something that didn't look too bulky - I found the North Face Parka just too bulky on me - whereas this one looks fine (actually really quite good) going round town in but also up a hill if need be. The zippy out duvet liner works well too. It's completely waterproof and the hood stays up and works even when it's windy. I'm 5' 7" and it's below my knee.

TheDogsMissingBollock · 08/10/2014 10:19

Ooh, tempting, Jimmy! Like the versatility but fear for the fit of waist/sleeves at my height. North face never fits me right : (

Areyouthere-loving the style of protected species but need more than bum skimming. Rural area, dog walks so think comfort has to win out over iurban hip...

Is the Thelma warm? Or more just raincoat. Net lining I guess answers my qu. Maybe I should go for Mary.

Have you looked at Aigle.

I have their Rainstar waterproof and is v long with v long sleeves which is something that i normally struggle to find.

spiderlight · 08/10/2014 11:11

I have last year's version of this, which is just below mid-thigh on me (5 ft 5), lovely and warm and 100% waterproof. And cheap Grin

TheDogsMissingBollock · 08/10/2014 12:02

Shall check those too, thanks. Think it's going be Didrikson though.

fi.zoovillage.com/brand/Didriksons

Love the website above- specify model's height..And she's tall- 184cm so have some clue how sleeves/waist/length will be. Fab! Lots to learn. From the Fins/Germans/swedes etc

I'm 5'8 but with arms like Mr Tickle. I have the seasalt Janelle and it's bloody marvellous. I stayed toasty and dry in today's downpour school run... And the hood stays up nicely too. I'm delighted with it and my sister now wants one the same.

TheDogsMissingBollock · 08/10/2014 12:14

That's good to hear! Am wavering now.. Wondering about that one or Didrikson klara or Mary...

I'm just about to buy this, as I already have longish, waterproof and warm (NorthFace), but I don't have longish and waterproof. Not sure about sleeve length, though www.sportsdirect.com/karrimor-tahoe-jacket-ladies-446105?colcode=44610503

Passthecake30 · 08/10/2014 18:04

Coming back on to say the Thelma warmish, its very good quality waterproof material but there's no padding. I recall that there's tog rating on the didrickson website. When I rang viking kids before ordering I actually spoke to a lady who is 6ft so that was helpful! :-)

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 08/10/2014 18:09

I've been talked down from the Karrimor and am now looking at Aigle.
