I had some really bad habits that I suspected slim people just don't do, like eating a couple of slices of toast and butter for a mid morning snack, buying crisps for myself with the supermarket shopping and eating them driving home, piling on the butter all round, eating while making packed lunches, using huge amounts of salad dressings, buying meal deal things in the supermarket with sandwiches, crisps and juice etc. Also portion control, having two sausages instead of 3, one piece of garlic bread instead of half a baguette, all that sort of thing. Oh and buying slush puppies in the sports centre cafe several times a week while waiting for the DCs to do their activities (it's boiling there).
So, I've cut out virtually all the butter, which has also had the effect or making me eat far less bread and crackers, I allow myself the odd pack of crisps if I have a supermarket sandwich, but now I have the lower cal sandwiches and don't have the juice just because it's in the offer, I let the DCs eat most of the garlic bread. I take an insulated cup of ice and water to the DCs activities. The weight's coming off slowly, which is fine, I want sustainable changes and I don't want to be keeping track of calories, or points or any of those things because I've tried so many times and just put it all back on in the end.
We were getting through two packs of butter a week as a household, now I've cut back one lasts a fortnight easily, which means I was eating about 3000 calories worth of butter a week plus a lot more toast, crumpets etc than I do now. I'm not even missing it.
