If you are late 30's and have a fairly casual style, where do you shop?

The shops where I live are generic High St. Next, DP, Oasis, Topshop, RI, Zara.

I need new clothes (jeans, leggings, tops, jumpers, shirts etc) but can't find anything I like.

Budget not huge. High street prices basically! But I need to find some brands that I like online. No idea where to start. Confused

I'm 41 and tend to buy most of my casual clothes from Esprit. They have a section in my local department store but I'm pretty sure you can also order from them online.

winnertakesitall · 28/09/2014 18:38

I like Mantaray at Debenhams.

Notonaschoolnight · 28/09/2014 18:41

Mostly Asos and a bit of high st

TwoLittleTerrors · 28/09/2014 18:43

I am 39 and mostly shop in h&m. Have a bit of topshop (love their jeans), river island and new look too.

Sicaq · 28/09/2014 19:23

I'm a walking GAP advert.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2014 19:27

I'm 44 but am told I dress fairly 'young' by my teen dds.

For casual I mostly wear -
skinny jeans from M&S or Topshop
tube mini skirts from Whistles
plain t-shirts or jumpers from wherever I can find them in decent fabric
biker jacket, peacoat or parka depending on the temperature (Hobbs, Oasis, Mint Velvet, M&S)
Converse or ankle boots (boots usually from M&S or Clarks or Dune)
long length vests for layering - H&M

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/09/2014 19:27

ASOS, Fat Face, Boden, Gap, Poetry, Mint Velvet, John Lewis, very occasional things from Debenhams, Joules, H&M, Sainsbury's.

Lndnmummy · 28/09/2014 19:29

Gap, cos, uniqlo, massimu dutti and the odd primark/hm/tk maxx

KellyElly · 28/09/2014 19:29

I'm 36 and I shop in River Island, H&M, jumpers from warehouse and oasis, odd thing from TK Maxx. When I'm feeling rich I like French Connection and Ted Baker.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 28/09/2014 19:31

Oh yes - have a few tops from Cos but you have to trawl a lot of shapeless weirdness and try loads on to get one or two nice things.

MrsEboJones76 · 28/09/2014 20:37

I'm 38.
I have gone right off next this season.
I like understated. I've bought a lot from Gap recently - merino knits, jeans, shirt dress.

AddToBasket · 29/09/2014 00:10

rollonthesummer · 29/09/2014 00:17

MozzchopsThirty · 29/09/2014 13:23

39 here

I shop at:
Zara
Mango
H&M
Tu

museumum · 29/09/2014 13:29

Careful selection at fat face and white stuff (avoiding anything too boho or those awful white stuff print skirts).
Zara
Gap
Careful boden (again avoiding their "signature" patterns)
Jumpers and cardis from woolovers

museumum · 29/09/2014 13:30

Also if I'm London for work - Benetton and uniqlo (don't have them here).

superzero · 29/09/2014 13:37

I dress like I'm in my 30s although I'm 41.Casual clothes are from M&S,All Saints, Boden( plain non-identifiable only) and recently ,La Redoute which has been surprisingly good and always seems to have offers

weebarra · 29/09/2014 13:40

I'm 37 and also have a fairly casual style. I like Esprit, Uniqlo, some Boden, Gap, Seasalt and White Stuff. I was in Cos yesterday and they didn't have anything for me, but sometimes do.

carrie74 · 29/09/2014 13:51

I wear a lot of Gap. Tend to spend a bit more on shoes/boots (I like Sam Edelman, Russell & Bromley and the like. NEVER pay full price) but wear them to death, handbags (mainly old Mulberry before the truly stupid price increases, and one from LK Bennett outlet), and jeans (usually wear an American brand called Lucky Brand as they fit well). Oh and I have a few scarves that were in the £20-£40 bracket which always hang better and last better than my market stall cheapies).

Also Me&Em for a lot of stuff, but again, never full price.

Petal02 · 29/09/2014 13:51

What's H&M sizing like?

PoppyAmex · 29/09/2014 16:13

Banana Republic, H&M, Massimo Dutti and Zara.

leedy · 29/09/2014 16:20

42 though hopefully not too geriatric a dresser - get stuff in Gap, what I think someone described above as "careful" Boden :), All Saints, Toast, Cos. Occasional splurges on APC for tops/dresses, Eric Bompard for cashmere, and J Brand for jeans because they fit me. Shoes from various "sensible shoe" brands due to wonky feet: Camper, Clarks, Birkenstock.

mewkins · 29/09/2014 20:21

Most of my stuff is Gap, Oasis, h&m, M&S for cord skirts etc, tk maxx for knitwear and boots! Uniqlo is also good for basics but some of the fits are a bit funny. New look is often worth a look for cotton/jersey tops.

jj83 · 29/09/2014 21:27

I fit your description and shop here Wink. I really struggle to find anything on the high street.
