Why do skinny jeans look wierd on me but ok on everybody else?

I don't get it! I'm quite sporty & fit so not overweight. Am 5ft 10 and a size 12, so generally look ok in most things. According to all the 'rules' I should look ok in skinny jeans, but I really don't!

If I turn them up to wear cropped in the summer, or wear with knee high boots, they look ok-ish. But if I try to wear them long with ankle boots or shoes I look all out of proportion and just not right. I do have quite big feet (8's) so could that be why? In just about any other clothes I look fine but in skinny jeans I suddenly have wierd legs, a big arse and look all top heavy - where am I going wrong?

I'm the same size as the OP (5'10" - size 12 - even size 8 shoes) but I do look good in them. But my legs are very thin and most of my height is in my legs, particularly my femur. I just have to hide the post-baby muffin top.

Oh and I wear the Primark super stretchy skinnies.

I wear primark super stretchy skinnies too and I am a 14 now (down from a 22 ) I think I look ok in them if I wear a top that comes over my still large stomach, think its cos my legs are not too big and I have a high firm bum when I was fatter I would have looked silly in them as my hips were fat and would have given me the parsnip look. as someone upthread said its about proportions I think. I wear them folded up with 'slipper type' shoes, (every colour £4 from Primark... classy me!) ballet flats or heels for a night out. I am starting to wear them with ankle boots and brogues in the colder weather still folded up though. I am not a fan of them with my high boots, prefer leggings with these as they tuck in easier and are more comfortable. I have two uber critical sons who both say I look something unintelligble in teen speak which apparently translates as rather cool and trendy mum

I am another one that skinny jeans look strange on....and if I had money for everytime someone said to me 'they will suit you as you have skinny legs' I would be very rich.
I am an inverted triangle shape, size 10/12 with broad shoulders and a 34e chest....plus very skinny legs. Even straight leg jeans make me look weird and as if I have left the coat hanger in my top/jumper!
I end up looking completely out of proportion and top heavy, and I feel fat.
Whereas if I put on a pair of bootcut jeans or trouser I look normal and balanced again.
It annoys me and I now just seem to end up staring at people in skinnies and wishing I could wear them too.
