What part of the country do you live in.

I love Seasalt, Desiguel and Monsoon. I am 49 so a little under your age group.

whattodoforthebest2 · 17/09/2014 11:58

Fenn Wright Manson, Phase Eight, Mint Velvet, Jaeger, H&M, White Company, Mango, L K Bennett, Top Shop.

JessyJames · 17/09/2014 12:04

Gap, Monsoon, White Company and TK Maxx!

I also buy a lot on line, Boden, Land's End for basics.

I'm 52, 5'10 and a size 20.

whattodoforthebest2 · 17/09/2014 12:06

Yes, forgot T K Maxx - God knows why - I go there all the time!

TheHoundsBitch · 17/09/2014 12:09

My mum (59) shops in Fat Face, White Stuff, Monsoon, East, Dorothy Perkins and M&S mainly. She always looks good.

SpringyReframed · 17/09/2014 12:17

I like Hobbs for dressy stuff - I find their cut very flattering.

For basics I am a big fan of Uniqlo. I also shop at Joules (as long as its not got a shouty logo), I also love Fat Face. On line Boden (again if not shouty Boden " look", and the odd thing from Lands End. Hush is lovely but the quality does not always match the price so I'm careful there but occasionally risk it and splurge.

TK Maxx is a bit of a thing for me as we have a very good one locally. I know they're not always good. It's nice to pick up something a bit different.

I used to like Zara but think it has gone a bit cheap and nasty recently. The jackets have always been good.

I can't stand Phase Eight stuff. Too ageing on me.

5'2, 55, size 12. (for some reason I rarely need petite despite my height, the wonderful Boden Chelsea Turn Ups being an exception!)

polyhymnia · 17/09/2014 12:23

Yes those plus Hobbs and some very carefully chosen Boden.

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 17/09/2014 12:24

M & Co

The White Company ( but not the droopy and shapeless tops and dresses)
Boden- for some basics like trousers and the odd top ( never 'fun' anything)
Jigsaw- basic trousers, coats and sometimes knitwear
White Stuff- some knitted dresses, cardis and summer Ts
Mint Velvet
Uniqlo for jeans, cashmere and T shirts

ChablisChic · 17/09/2014 13:41

I'm in the wilds of west Ireland, so very little choice for me. When I'm in the UK I like Mint Velvet, some Hobbs and Jigsaw. I use mail order quite a bit, Boden, Pure Collection, Poetry.

Stupidhead · 17/09/2014 13:44

My (future) mil is 66 and always looks glam, she uses BHS and Primark mostly but you'd never guess.

pinkfrocks · 17/09/2014 14:00

Chablis- do those companies not post outside the UK?

ChablisChic · 17/09/2014 14:04

pink yes, most places post to Ireland, but unless I'm really sure of sizing and quality I'm a bit wary, as you always have to pay postage and returns postage. With Boden etc I know what will fit me. Mint Velvet I like, but you have to see their stuff in person as the photos online never seem to look that inspiring. (I've had too much stuff I've ended up keeping because it's a faff to send back, but hardly wearing. So I'm determined not to do it again!)

cressetmama · 17/09/2014 14:22

For some reason our small local Devon town (population 15,000) has smashing shops for ladies in that demographic and has several attractive boutiques, plus Fat Face, DP, M&Co. At 58, 5' 5" and size 10-12/M, it's rarely necessary to go to either of the two cities within range except for TK Maxx and a bigger Boots. Uniqlo is always worth looking at IME for T shirts and plain cashmere jumpers.

ChablisChic · 17/09/2014 14:38

cressetmama are the Uniqlo t shirts good quality? They seem amazingly cheap, so I'm quite tempted.

cressetmama · 17/09/2014 15:14

They are really good quality, wash well, seams stay straight, good length (on me); the only thing is that popular colours sell out quickly. I have eight of their cotton henleys.... Only one has not been as good (the side seams twisted) but it's a good shape and colour so I wear it anyway. Medium is a snuggish fit on me, large glides over the lumpy bits! Hope this helps.

cressetmama · 17/09/2014 15:15

And on the strength of the jeans bought for DS (15) plus a couple of plain oxford shirts in cotton and linen, the rest is very sound too. I've never tried the jeans.

pinkfrocks · 17/09/2014 15:28

Uniqlo jeans are great- DS goes in and gets 5 pairs at once.

I have a couple of pairs and the bonus is if you shop in person the alter the length free on the spot.

The sizing is weird though- I have straight legs in a 29 and I'm a size 10 !

ErrolTheDragon · 17/09/2014 15:31

I'm 53 (5'1, size 10) - M&S because their jeans suit my shape and they always have short length, and I like some of their Indigo range; Next; Fat Face; Wallis; Lands end for t-shirts. Some bits of Debenhams (not the old lady sections!).

(TBH most of the time I'm likely to be wearing workout gear if I CBA to change, or walking trousers so not exactly a fashion guru so perhaps I should include Cotswold, Mountain warehouse and Sports Direct Grin)

polyhymnia · 17/09/2014 16:08

I like Whistles too

motherinferior · 17/09/2014 16:22

Charity shops, mainly. Toast sale. Uniqlo. Gap/Boden sales. But mostly charity shops.

Floisme · 17/09/2014 18:28

TK Maxx mostly. Apart from there, all over the high street and I mean all over. In the last 6 months or so I've bought Whistles, H&M (I think they've been really good recently) Oasis, M&S, Hobbs and Top Shop. I also used to like Jigsaw, Zara and Gap - not so much lately but I keep looking there anyway.

Online, I like Uniqlo, Me and Em (sale time only) People Tree and non-sassy bits of Boden. Basically, I don't rule anywhere out. I'd love to buy more charity shop stuff but they're all complete and utter shite where I live.

I'm 58, size 8-10, 5'3 and hourglassy-pear shape.

buggerthebotox · 17/09/2014 21:00

Anywhere on the high street. Even Top Shop andcRiver Island. I like some well-chosen Phase 8, drool over Mint Velvet but never buy anything, Ted Baker (outlet) and anywhere really for basics. The only thing I won't compromise on is knitwear. There's something rather sad about cheap knitwear imo. Fly/Rocket Dog/ Red or Dead for boots. There's a brand called Sandwich I really like (John Lewis I think.). And All Saints, although I've only ever bought a scarf! Can't resist it, though....

Pollywallywinkles · 17/09/2014 21:21

The same sort of places as a 40 year old.
