East
Tesco ( for T shirts )
Marks & Spencer
But I'm not very stylish
Frumpy , fat and 54

Im 51 and do find the high street increasingly has nothing for me . Im 5ft 4 and an 8-10. jigsaw used to be nice but are a bit expensive. mint velvet are good but things have to be tried on. sea-salt good for casual stuff. Occ great plains. I love sandwich (a Dutch make)-which is not available everywhere-frasers in glasgow does it and it is on their website. Again it often looks different when tried on . some of the websites Ive seen posted on MN look great too

I shop at the same places as the forty year olds that I know plus charity and second hand shops. Whistles, Hobbs, Jigsaw, Oasis, Uniqlo, Zara etc.

Nepotism · 17/09/2014 22:57

Massimo Dutti, Zara's big sister. I think good quality fabrics are essential now, merino, cashmere, cotton, silk, leather, suede... I see the occasional thing in Phase Eight and East but so much is frumpy. Esprit is good, Great Plains too.

its funny that people are saying they shop at the same places as a 40 year old - the reason i asked where to 50 - 60 year olds shop is because my mum is actually turning 60 and i think she should dress as if she was a 50 year old :) but really she will be dressing as a 40 year old (who probably dress like 30 year old, and so on!)

all good ideas. im going on saturday, and will let you know how i got on. i know i would like to try gap for her jeans, tk maxx, wallis, monsoon, h&m, DP. some of the other ones that sound really good are online so we can check them out the next time she is up at mine.

Have posted on the how to look good at 50 thread
am 47, like
Mint Velvet
White Company
Whistles jeans and dresses
Hush
some Marks,especially shoes and boots
Great Plains
Sandwich
jigsaw
Some Phase Eight, but not Mother of Bride or day at races type stuff

All above can be via EBay too!

I've already posted where I shop (everywhere) but really I think it's a mistake to see age as the main factor. Your body shape, colouring, personal style, size, lifestyle and budget are always more important than your age. This is why I find shops aimed at my demographic (late 50s) such a depressing experience. The first retailer to get this will make a killing.

howtoapproachthis · 21/09/2014 14:17

thanks for all the ideas. we got 2 pairs of jeans in gap and 2 jumpers and a top from next! also tried debhenams, wallis, and a couple of others with no joy. i think online would have better options for mum but she really needs to try things on. still, we are very pleased with what we got, and so glad because she never thought she would get a pair of jeans that weren't really slim line

I am 54.
I shop for tops at Esprit, Mint Velvet. Warehouse and Oasis.
Trousers more problematic as am 35 inch inside neg. Basic cigarette led trs from Next Tall, jeans from Goldsign , Top Shop or J Brand.

I have odd bits from H and M.

Not keen on Phase Eight..find it fussy.
I like bits from Sandwich.

higgle · 21/09/2014 15:21

The same places as everyone else! fashion is nothing to do with age.

LightastheBreeze · 21/09/2014 16:03

56 here, and shop at Boden M&S and Next tall mainly. I'm 5 ft 10 and a lot of shops are a bit too short so I wear a lot of three quarter sleeve tunic style tops, boyfriend cardigans and straight or skinny jeans/trousers.

Shoes and boots from M&S and Clarks mainly.

I'm not that stylish though Smile

glinda · 21/09/2014 17:14

It s really hard. I am nudging 50, nudging 6 feet tall and a size 22. Resigned to living as a hermit as there is NOTHING in the shops for me. Sad

2Bemused · 21/09/2014 19:17

I have had some lovely things from Jigsaw & Poetry as well as Jaeger and Austin Reed for work.
I also buy Liusa Cerrano, St. Emile & Brax & Liberty.
56 on Friday, 165cm tall slim with boobs.
