Drinking 3 litres of water a day!

Read an article in the daily mail showing the effects of drinking 3 litres of water a day on woman's face. The changes were amazing. She looked 10 years younger. Her spots cleared and her skin became dewy and plump and her waist became smaller. I'm 10 days in and love how my skin looks, my pores are smaller and clearer and my skin looks plumper.. Plus my bloated tummy is considerably flatter. Does anyone else find water magic when it comes to skin???

I drink loads. I have very plump skin, very few spots, usually only around the time of the month. I don't usually drink plain water very often but get plenty of fluids from what I do drink. I also now very rarely suffer with cystitis or water infections, which i used to get so so badly when I didn't drink much, which is good.

You need to take care- drinking too much water - a lot- can kill.
3 litres is okay but there are cases of death by drinking too much water- often kids on drugs do this.

The water thing is a bit of myth.
Drinking enough of anything that doesn't contain alcohol, caffeine or sugar is going to hydrate the skin, fill you up so you don't nibble carbs etc, but I think the recommended amount is 2 litres a day.

Most people who drank 3ltrs would forever be going to the loo- I would!

netty36 · 13/09/2014 11:22

I'm amazed at the difference in my skin but I do spend a lot of time rushing to the loo. But it goes to show, expensive moisturisers are limited in what they can achieve as if you are dehydrated you have got to hydrate from within. I'm hooked.

Apparantly 3 litres is the optimum amount your body needs to function properly.... According to the daily mail!??
I'm hoping the loo thing eases as my body gets used to extra water.

It's utterly ridiculous to name a particular volume as the optimum amount. The actual optimum will vary according to your size, level of activity and ambient temperature. I was racing in 40 degrees heat last year and drank half a litre every 30 mins. Only 3 litres during the day would've been useless. If I'm in the office sitting at my pc then I probably drink about 1.5 litres during the whole time and I still have totally clear wee. That's how you judge - look at the colour of your wee.

Yes - or freelancers- and get paid a lot for writing about wonder cures and their' before and after' shots.

I drink 3 litres a day. It's really not that much over the course of the day.

I can't say it's the same for everyone but I know it benefits me because if I stop drinking so much I bloat and get breakouts and gain a few pounds.

It also keeps me energised, thinking clearly and stops me snacking unnecessarily. Often when we think we are hungry we're actually thirsty.

Water intoxication is incredibly rare and is almost always related to extreme situations (top google hits include a water drinking competition/a student hazing/drug addicts who aren't in control of their faculties).

It's not a realistic threat to anyone drinking 3 litres of water a day.

peasandlove · 13/09/2014 11:50

I drink about 3 litres easily too. I refill a 750ml water bottle at least 3 times just while I'm at work, at least once if I gym and another couple of glasses of an evening at home. That's not to count the tea and two coffees I have in the morning either (the coffee dehydrates me, I know). I feel way better with lots of water and feel very tired if I dont have enough

BunnyLebowski · 13/09/2014 11:51

Exactly peas. After exercise (4-5 times a week) I guzzle at least a litre!

peasandlove · 13/09/2014 12:10

I spent my teens and early twenties with headaches every day, I didnt realise I just wasnt drinking enough water (barely any actually)

netty36 · 13/09/2014 21:38

I've been sticking to the 3 litres for about 10 days and it has really cleared up my skin, headaches have gone and tummy is much less bloated. I'm just amazed at what skincare failed to achieve, water has very quickly. I can't link on my phone but if you google article it comes up. I think I've been dehydrated for a long time. My skin was so spotty I put it down to perimenooause but it is ridiculously clear and feels clean. Even the skin on my chest looks better.

I get compliments on how clear my skin is I drink over two litres a day

noddyholder · 13/09/2014 22:40

The secret is not to ridicule it until you have done it.

squoosh · 13/09/2014 22:40

I drink about 3 litres a day on average. Mostly because I just love water and don't really drink anything else (well, aside from alcohol).

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/09/2014 22:57

I drink loads of water in the evening ( because I hot flush) literally pint after pint.
I don't drink alcohol at all, but I do drink coffee.

So of course, I have to pee at night and 3am

(Had a blood test, not diabetic)
Does it improve my skin? Not really.

Bunbaker · 13/09/2014 23:20

"Mostly because I just love water"

My problem is that I don't. I only really enjoy drinking water if I am very thirsty or hot. I work in an air conditioned office and am cold most of the time so I never fancy a drink of water. It just doesn't hit the spot the way a cup of tea does.

I do drink a fair amount of tea and I do drink plain water when cycling, but I couldn't face drinking 3 litres of water a day just as water. Heated up with a tea bag and some milk is fine though.

Skinheadmermaid · 14/09/2014 11:24

Theres honestly no need to drink that much. The body has a way of telling you you need more fluids-it's called being thirsty.
The whole '2 litres/eight glasses a day' myth was started by bottled water companies as a way of flogging an otherwise superfluous product.

peasandlove · 14/09/2014 11:30

I disagree. I need to drink a lot, I can really feel the difference when I dont. I feel tired, lethargic, my face feels tight and dehydrated. I just sip all day. Its not an effort to do

No it's a dim advert.
I'm a NZ teacher...!
I just stumbled across article whilst researching how to clear up my perimenopausal skin.
I'm just amazed what skincare has failed to do, water has sorted out in about 11 days. I have clearer, plumper skin. I spend a lot on skin care but results are usually disappointing...compared to this.
May not work for everyone but I feel and look amazing!

OP posts:
netty36 · 15/09/2014 09:29

DM not dim!

skinnysoyvanillalatte · 15/09/2014 09:32

Drinking that much water has done nothing different to my skin tbh

netty36 · 15/09/2014 09:44

My skin was dull and congested... Now it's clear and plumper. But I haven't drunk water for about a decade!!! So maybe my skin is so dehydrated that it just looks normal now. All I know, it's done what skincare has failed to do, my bowels are functioning better and I feel cleaner inside!??! If that doesn't sound odd. I'm delighted. Maybe I should post a before and after as the difference to me is huge.
