Wrap dresses...

Has anyone seen any nice ones about? I have a smart occasion coming up and will need breastfeeding access so think this is my only option really.

Trouble is I look like a short fat Duchess of Cambridge, worried a wrap dress might just highlight the fact. Have had a browse but can't find many and wondering if I'm missing somewhere.

I would normally go for separates but it works out cheaper to buy a dress I think. Budget around £50-60.

I'm size 10, hourglass, but need something that is forgiving on the stomach area. Very forgiving. Like Jesus forgiving.

Thanks.

Any of these? bananarepublic.gap.co.uk/browse/category.do?cid=69883#style=1006130 you get 14 PC off if you sign up with them and free delivery and returns. I like the plum fixed wrap one best myself

Monsoon have some in their sale on Brand Alley. I really like this one [http://www.brandalley.co.uk/1372472.html]]

Would a tea dress work better? A button-down dress might be ok to feed in? I've just ordered a dress from banana republic for the same reason - waiting impatiently for it to arrive so I can trial it.

Outflewtheweb · 10/09/2014 23:03

Exact same issue here. I've ordered this one to try. Not technically a wrap dress but hoping it has enough flexibility for boob exposure! The wedding is this weekend so it had better do. www.boden.co.uk/en-GB/Womens-Dresses/Smart-Day-Dresses/WH701/Womens-Natalia-Dress.html

Those BR wraps look good.

Clare588 · 11/09/2014 04:31

Try this site. There is a wrap dress but the Isla sounds like it would be very flattering on you. Plenty of ruching to cover the areas you're not so happy with.

I bought a dress from them for a wedding when dd was just under 3mths and felt fabulous in it.

InspiredbyLife · 11/09/2014 04:37

Without question: Baukjen

expensive full price but they have regular sales (and often a discounted section on the site)

I live in their jersey dresses

SavoyCabbage · 11/09/2014 04:52

I too love Baukjen but I can't wear the wrap dresses as I am not tall enough.

Eastpoint · 11/09/2014 05:55

I'm 5'6" & Baukjen didn't work on me, to fit my bust there was so much fabric it just added bulk. I was v Sad as I'd read so many recommendations on here.

ClaraDeLaNoche · 11/09/2014 07:28

The Baujken ones are amazing and mine has stayed in great nick for years. Except... V uncomfortable while driving, the knot digs into your back. So I untie. But forgot I'd done this and flashed a few people at the petrol station. Confused

TheFairyCaravan · 11/09/2014 07:33

Next has a couple.

here.

AnythingNotEverything · 11/09/2014 07:37

I got one from White Stuff for an occasion when DD was tiny. The have a good selection in Monsoon too. M&S do great bum, tum and thigh shaper tights.

Phase Eight are often good for tummy ruching dresses but I haven't seen wrap dresses there recently. Worth a look though.

HermioneWeasley · 11/09/2014 07:45

Unless you are 3foot tall you cannot possibly look fat at a size 10, by the way.

MrsLettuce · 11/09/2014 07:58

IME wrap dresses are awfully unforgiving on the stomach area. These are button through with print - some of the prints might be a bit much though.

If your short (model is 5'8”) this would work, might be too whimsical though.
longer
marmite
this would probably look a lot better on an hourglass than it does on the model
longer again

Sootgremlin · 11/09/2014 09:27

Thanks, lots to look at here.

To clarify my comments about size, I know I'm not fat at size 10, but I have a diastasis recti after two large babies so have a disproportionately large stomach compared to the rest of me and find it very difficult to know how to dress it, without looking 6 months along again! I've lost two stone but felt less 'fat' at size 14 than I do now, just because everything was more in proportion iyswim. Previously I would have worn similar styles to KM ie wraps etc but she is very slender and tall and not sure if they would be as flattering on me these days.

I think callamia and mrslettuce might be right about tea style dresses - I had a button top one from Monsoon for the last wedding I went to that I've worn to shreds, but couldn't see anything similar this time.

Off to check all the links!

I like the look of wrap dresses, and from the front they look quite flattering on me (size 12, 5ft 4). However I've not found one that from the back looks square and unflattering and highlights back fat and hips. Any ideas anyone?

AnythingNotEverything · 11/09/2014 13:15

Golden - is there a missing "doesn't" in your post?

You must size up in a jersey wrap dress, but yes, if there are lumps you may well see them. Could a cardigan help?

Goldenlab · 11/09/2014 13:20

Ha ha! Yes! There is a missing doesn't! I do tend to wear cardigans, but wanted a dress I could wear without really, if possible.

tethersend · 11/09/2014 13:29

over budget, sorry

Sootgremlin · 11/09/2014 16:09

Thefairycaravan, I've ordered the pink floral Next one to try, not too sure of the colour or print on me but was tempted by the price!

I've tried a Baukjen dress on once before, the material was gorgeous but couldn't justify the price at the time. Wonder if they are clingy though?

The Isla one is nice, Clare, but maybe a bit 'glam' for the occasion, wish I'd found that site on pregnancy no.1 though!

Banana Republic I would never have thought of but like the look of them, very simple and no wacky prints. I think I'm going to see what this Next one is like, if I think the wrap suits but not the print, I'll order one each to try from Baukjen/BR

I liked all your links MrsLettuce, I've ordered the polka dot and balloon print (I don't mind a bit of whimsy!) as I know that shape suits me they might be just the ticket, depending how the length works out. I thought that green one was a gorgeous shape, I really loved it because of despite the donkeys, my only concern is I can't wear heels and couldn't picture what shoes I would wear with it. I only didn't go for the tree print because I had to stop somewhere.

Your Boden one looks gorgeous outflewtheweb, hope it works well for you it's really pretty, bit out of budget for me. Ditto your link tethersend, but think that would be really flattering, lovely design.

Thanks for all your links everyone, so helpful and much appreciated Flowers

I recently brought this one and have had a few compliments, it's really easy to wear (day or night) and is a good length. I got it from House Of Fraser, label called Therapy.

WolfieChunk · 11/09/2014 16:48

Sorry still haven't figured out how to do links Confused

tethersend · 11/09/2014 17:43

Boden wrap dress for £40

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/09/2014 18:24

Another vote for Baukjen. I'm a short-arse but managed to get one in a charity shop brand new and it is a perfect length on me, and lovely, thick material.
