So, I'm gettin' old. I've noticed recently (past year recently since I turned 40) that my skin is drier and much less elastic than it used to be.

Moisturiser nearly run out. Any recommendations? Budget is 25.00 max.

It depends on how dry your skin is normally, i use argan oil usually for my skin with avocado oil if it gets too dry (also its good for gentle sun protection).

You can get them in good health food shops which are cheaper than normal shops. Also the colloidal silver creams are great.

MerryMarigold · 08/09/2014 13:24

I'd say I have nightmare skin. Used to be very oily. Still get blocked pores under my fringe. I think it's a lot drier though as when I went to a humid place in the summer, it felt fantastic, constant moisture and glow!

Then Argan would be best for you it's very light but still moisturising (the colloidal silver cream is brilliant for blemishes).

I gave up on the stuff that's advertised because it's all the same whatever you pay (well nearly all of it is) and it doesn't work well (made my skin drier) due to the petroleum products and other chemical shxx that they pack it with.

MerryMarigold · 08/09/2014 16:33

Thanks. Any particular makes of the colloidal stuff? I found one UK company but you had to buy this big pack - I didn't really understand how it worked, and it didn't look like a cream.

I buy Argentum Plus, living energy systems. They do shampoos as well as moisturisers. I get it from an independent Health food shop. They haven't got an email address.

MerryMarigold · 08/09/2014 17:29

Thanks. I saw it on amazon

Of course what you put IN your body is important too! When I stopped eating dairy my skin improved a lot!

pinkfrocks · 08/09/2014 17:49

I thought colloidal silver was something that was used medicinally? I am sure that years ago my then GP used it to try to heal my cervical erosion Confused

OPYou can't reverse sagging or loss of elasticity without surgery or fillers.
But you can prevent it getting worse- sun UVA/UVB is the biggest culprit.
So use a high SPF every day- spf 25 or more.

Eat lots of good fats and Omega 3s, avoid sugar and refined carbs, booze and smoking.

Olay Regenerist 3-point treatment moisturiser gets good reviews as does the Olay 7 signs of ageing.

Basically you need something that mops up the free radicals. Estee Lauder and Clinque are ahead of most of the brands if that's your budget.

ppeatfruit · 08/09/2014 17:58

Actually I use a facial massage system that has reversed sagging skin on my face that and losing quite a bit of weight Grin.

Thanks....yes, when I have detoxed and drunk more water, my skin is better. Oooh one of my students is selling a facial massage thing. Maybe I should swap a few lessons for one!

I do avoid booze and smoking, but the refined carbs and sugar are a bit of a killer.

temporaryusername · 09/09/2014 05:37

Yes, that's me too Marigold Grin

Avoid booze and smoking? No problem. Carbs and sugar? Um..Hmm I'll try. I mean, I'll need to think about trying for a bit before starting the actual trying, obviously Blush.

Floisme · 09/09/2014 07:01

I might consider giving up sugar (and caffeine) if it was going to make me immortal. But to take a couple of years of my face? Give over.

ppeatfruit · 09/09/2014 07:57

Rather than looking at it negatively be positive.g. have fruit for breakfast and make it LOVEY fruit with almonds or walnuts e.g. I make a smoothie with ground almonds, pumpkin seeds and seasonal fruit, a couple of dates or figs and fresh organic juice, for sweetness, always including fresh lemon juice for anti oxidants, so it lasts in the fridge till the next day,

ppeatfruit · 09/09/2014 07:58

I meant LOVELY fruit of course Grin though it may be lovey as well Grin

Floisme · 09/09/2014 08:06

Now lovey fruit... that I might think about Grin

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2014 10:14

That sounds like a LOVEY recipe Wink. I do generally have berries, yoghurt and homemade granola (lots of nuts and seeds in) for breakfast but then yesterday had a choc bar for lunch and another choc bar before bed. Arghhhh...need to eat properly.

Paula's Choice retinol has been recommended by a few people I know.

ppeatfruit · 09/09/2014 10:30

If you're out take some macadamias and fruit with you or buy from a salad. I 'm on the Paul Mckenna (it's for life) and it says to eat but when you're hungry (never go hungry) so I always take water and good chewy food to eat so I'm not tempted by shxx.

Of course the odd good quality chocolate bar won't kill you, it's got magnesium in it Grin.

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2014 10:36

mmmm....not sure of the quality of a Double Decker, but they're my fav!

REf. the facial massage I do it myself it's much cheaper! I use a tui na book which gives self massage advice and I've got a proper defined waist, which I never had when I was 25 and a size 8!

MerryMarigold · 09/09/2014 11:47

ppeatfruit. How did you get the waist? I need a waist!

Hydraluron. I notice a massive difference when I don't use it

The book is called The Complete System of Self Healing Internal Exercises by Dr. Stephen T. Chang. It has it's weird bits but it has the facial exes as well.
