The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

Herbs - maybe sling in a few chopped dried apricots and some form of spice. Cumin? Coriander? I have a recipe somewhere....

Rudy - you need Seche Vite for quick-dry nails. Another wonder product I heard about after hanging around on MN (see also Oven Pride and Babyliss Big Hair). No sooner is the last nail coated than the first is bone dry already.

I am being lazy today, still in my jim-jams. Possibly because I was up until 2am, having been sucked into watching a film called Trollhunter. In Norwegian, with subtitles, but strangely compelling. Meanwhile I have prepared a list of household "snags" for DH to attend to when he gets back from football (shelf up, curtain poles down, install replacement loo-roll holder that doesn't ping the roll across the floor whenever you try to take a sheet). I have lots of online shopping to do more pressing issues.

Cat surprised us this morning by wolfing down a whole sachet of meat & has been sleeping it off ever since! She's about 18 (rescue), so roughly the same biological age as DM. Vet thinks she has lymphoma. We decided not to investigate, as she fights like a demon even if she only needs a blood test. She is an assertive little cat. Can't imagine being without her.

Odd headachey day.

cremolafoam · 20/09/2014 14:33

So sorry Auriga. Poor old girl

lalsy · 20/09/2014 14:38

BTM, that is brilliant about dd. I think confidence in one area really helps in others, even if it takes a while to show up. Hope she goes back to school happily.

Auriga, maybe you need a big sleep too.

bigTillyMint · 20/09/2014 14:50

Thanks Rose and Lalsy!

Sadly one of the girls who was bullying her last year is still being indirectly horrid - DD is friends with one of her friends out of school and the bully is asking the other girl why she likes DD, etc. On social media tooAngryAngryAngry I think DD can see that it is the bully that is a sad, jealously obsessed little wotsit, but it doesn't make things any easierSad

lalsy · 20/09/2014 14:53

Blimey, BTM, that's awful. Poor her. Glad she can see through the tricks though. Bah.

cremolafoam · 20/09/2014 14:58

BTM , I can't believe The Bully ilia still at it, albeit in an indirect way. Poor dd. I hope the work exp will give her the confidence to let it wash over her.
Best thing to deal with a bully is not to shine any light on her whatsoever.
Ignore, rise above, don't react, see the ridiculous side.
You're doing a splendid job.

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 20/09/2014 15:52

She can see that it's not her, but the bully (not sure if the other is doing it too), but it's making her very anxious about going back to school. I am going to talk to DH about it - maybe we need the school to deal with it again...

hattymattie · 20/09/2014 16:34

BTM - sorry to hear the bully has reappeared - maybe just alert the school in case there are flare ups.

Auriga - very sad about old puss.Sad

Have had very lazy day today as my face is still swollen on one side so not fit to be seen out in public.

Rosebag · 20/09/2014 16:41

Oh no tilly. It sounds like DD is taking a mature, sensible view though. Even so, it doesn't help the wobbly feeling. I'm not sure about her school but ours investigate cyber bullying as messages often go,back and forth during school hours, even though they're not supposed to. Yes, go to the school. It must be stopped. My DD gets this sometimes....being a bit different. A girl whom she thought was her friend turned out to be trying to convince DDs bestie to take the later bus in the morning and not the one they normally meet on, saying stuff like " you don't want to go with her do you?" dd was very upset but decided to lay low and trust her bestie. It did pay off in the end as Bestie told other girl..." DD is my friend and I want to travel with her" but it took a few weeks.
It's as much a test of the third party as of the bully. Thanks to you and DD

I have spent the best part of 2 and a half hours in the car. Got caught on the notorious A406 (herbs how do you stand what's going on at Charlie Browns at the moment...) trying to get DD to her party and decided to come back via another route but got lost. Have now found a Starbucks to sit in as I have to go back and collect her in a bit. I've got to allow an hour. I have a headache too auriga from driving stress, cross that DH is on a day out stress, bad hair stress and codeine stress ( limited G&T opportunities at band night later, as a result of drug consumption. ) aaaargh

hattymattie · 20/09/2014 17:59

OK Crepeys DD2 has to write a paragraph introducing the twentieth century. She so far has a long list of events like the Billy Joel song - We Can't Stop the Fire. I reckon it just reads like a long list. Any ideas on how to encapsulate the twentieth century? My second question to the grammar queens - if a sentence starts "Inventions" and goes on to list inventions the word "inventions" should be followed by a colon not a semi colon right? Just spent a while pondering with DD2 and am now confused.Confused

Auriga · 20/09/2014 18:07

I vote colon.

hattymattie · 20/09/2014 18:09

Thank youGrin.

bigTillyMint · 20/09/2014 18:19

HattyGrin

How does that Billy Joel song encapsulate the C20?Confused
It was a period with 2 world wars and massive changes industrially and technologically as well as musically, sociological changes - women's rights, immigration... not really sure how to encapsulate it!

hattymattie · 20/09/2014 18:25

Their History teacher played the song to them as it lists lots of names and events from the twentieth century. Unfortunately, DD2 has more or less copied this approach. I think we've got it down to a paragraph now - with lots of semi colons.Wink. She called it a "rollercoaster" of progress which I thought was not bad.

MollyAir · 20/09/2014 19:29

A rollercoaster is a good image for the C20. One step forward, two steps back. Or is it: two steps forward, one step back? Discuss

Sorry to hear about the bully, btm. Make sure you take a screenshot of the FB comments, even if you just file them away. Dd was bullied but it stopped; we did have a meeting with the deputy head, and I still have the Evidence File in case anything happens again. Angry Keeping the evidence made me feel powerful, and I think dd too. We explained to her that, if things continued, we could even go to the police with the screenshots.

Ds goes off to uni next weekend, so I am an emotional wreck. I keep buying things he won't need. A friend of his already at the uni has told him that students on ds' course are "very lax". Not sure whether to be pleased or not about that! Said friend was probably being kind, in any case.

hattymattie · 20/09/2014 19:38

Molly - I like thatGrin. I'm going to start packing with DD next week - not a wreck yet but I can feel it creeping up on me. I said I'd buy her new shoes before she went. I am conscious that she is trying to get me to buy the maximum of stuff here so she won't have to pay herself.Hmm

MollyAir · 20/09/2014 19:42

Oh, I want to buy all his stuff so I can CONTROL EVERYTHING. Grin

hattymattie · 20/09/2014 19:43

[grisSS Shame we can't got shopping together.

hattymattie · 20/09/2014 19:44

That was supposed to be Grin

bigTillyMint · 20/09/2014 22:03

Thanks for all the support. It's "private" messaging AFAIK. It sounds like the girl stuck in the middle is being very sensible ATM and saying that she likes DD despite the bully saying she has to choose and that DD made stuff up to get her and the other bully into trouble previously despite admitting to the teacher dealing with it that DD had never done anything to them. She is currently OK, but I am going to keep checking with her and am ready to jump to it as soon as necessary.
These bullies are in Y11 FFS!!! Will they ever grow up?!

Molly and HattyGrin
