Forever Autumn Forever Crepey

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

Mmm....evaporated milk....A standard dessert of my childhood usually involved some sort of fruit doused in evaporated milk. I could happily eat it off a spoon.

Am feeling virtuous, having tidied loft, put away summer clothes, chucked a load of old boardgames and crafty crap out of the play room, filled playroom cupboard with crap from the utility room, relocated stinky hamsters from playroom into the resulting space in the utility room etc. etc. etc. Car is now full of charity shop donations and bin bags of rubbish. I didn't find the sodding iron, though. Angry I am now on the hunt for new curtains for the playroom and a new coffee table to replace the Ikea monstrosity I've been resting my feet on for the last 15+ years. Isn't it strange how you coexist with something for ages, then suddenly it's "OMG, that thing has got to go." ?

DH wins Prize Chump of the Year award, deciding to top up one of the beanbags with polystyrene beads.....while sitting on the front doorstep. Cue sudden gust of wind. Angry We now have white polystyrene all over the front drive, in the flower beds, lodged in every nook and chuffing cranny.

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/09/2014 23:49

Yep, standard pudding from the 1970s, tinned fruit (fruit cocktail if you were lucky, apricots or cling peaches (why "cling"?) if you weren't) with evap. Also - whatever happened to Dream Topping? And Instant Whip.

CointreauVersial · 14/09/2014 23:59

Angel Delight. Butterscotch flavour, of course......God, I bet it would taste revolting now.

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/09/2014 00:06

Err, no, it still tastes as good. Blush

herbaceous · 15/09/2014 04:08

We used to call it 'Birds team dropping'. Arf.

A great aunt of mine used to make her own 'Baileys' by mixing Tip Top with whisky.

I'm up fretting about asking the head to sign the transfer forms. All the bumph says we should have meetings, try to resolve the situation, moving should be a last resort, etc, and I'm afraid she'll try to persuade me out of it.

Morning allSmile - Lalsy and Crem - glad the DD's are safely installed.

Mrs S - my DH does this - suddenly clears out everybody else's stuff in a totally dictatorial manner.

We have spent an comparatively quiet weekend - apart from DD's arguingSad . I think it probably is time for DD1 to spread her wings.

This morning I have an emergency trip to buy sports trousers for DS - I have been a negligent mother a did not realise he'd grown so much over the summer until I saw him leaving the house with his trousers above his anklesBlush. He didn't seem at all bothered by this.

bigTillyMint · 15/09/2014 06:56

Am I the only crepey that didn't like evap? I did, however love Angel Delight, and the DC do too - I can confirm MrsS is right! I remember Dream Topping and Instant Whip and homemade Baileys too. Not so good!

Herbs, Jesus does indeed want miniHerbs for a sunbeam - DO NOT FRET, STAND AWAY FROM THE BUMPH!!!! Send DP in if he's not such a soft touch

Hatty, DS is in his old (age 15) school trousers precisely so he can show off his white socksConfused And it has just reminded me that I am going to have to persuade him into his Kickers this morning to appease his Ms Trunchbull-like HOY....

Am feeling much better after a decent sleep!

bigTillyMint · 15/09/2014 06:59

And in S&B news, I am thrilled to find that I can extend my gel manicure lasting because I have the exact same colour in normal nail varnish to paint by the cuticle where my nails have grownSmile

herbaceous · 15/09/2014 07:53

I wish I could send DP in, as he is indeed not such a soft touch. But he's gone to work. And will be away for the next few days.

I have visions of her saying 'just give it one more term', and being all nice and persuasive. And then refusing to sign the form, and setting it on fire in front of me.

At least I'm not hungover today. To attempt to remove the crepey Lush crown, I shall abstain from booze until, ooh, Friday.

motherinferior · 15/09/2014 08:16

Herbs, my love, round here kids move primary a lot. They can't all be going through last-minute compromises. Remember the old stuck record technique - "we want to move him". Reason why: "this school suits him better". Just stick with it. Good luck!

OPM, that must be tough.

motherinferior · 15/09/2014 08:17

Today's trivial row was about socks.

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/09/2014 08:24

Herbs - they have hardly gone out of their way to have meetings, sort out the issues, or be in any way helpful, have they? It has all been lip service, and saying yes, yes, yes and then doing precisely FA about the issues. You might want to point this out to them (and I am sure you have plenty of examples). She'll sign. And don't buy the "one more term" crap - better if he goes now, close to the start of the school year, rather than be the newbie at Christmas. Agree with MI re stuck record technique.

Blackduck · 15/09/2014 08:32

Hello all! Fab weekend in Wales here - back to rain this morning.
Herbs just tell her you are moving him and could she please not waste any more of your time and sign the damned forms.

Butterscotch Angel Delight - yum.......

Rosebag · 15/09/2014 08:42

I gave my teens angel delight a while back THEY LOVED IT!!!!!

I could eat condensed milk by the spoonful undiluted by fruit.

Well done and hugs to crepeys weathering being rejected by uni bound offspring.

herbs I am not brave and would just post it in the school office in tray with a note saying "kindly sign the enclosed". Alternatively if you have to see her, don't engage just keep saying " kindly sign the enclosed. " you're doing the right thing. Good on you.

Weekend went pear shaped. dH and I had a monumental row over home work trivia which makes a sock row seem important. He apologised. Unbelievably i accepted. The kids are still in the air raid shelter. Aye me.

hattymattie · 15/09/2014 08:53

That reminds me MI - DD's friend has spent £25 on socks here before setting off for the LSE - because of course it is impossible to find socks in central LondonHmm

Rosebag · 15/09/2014 08:58

ps OPM understand re DSs transition. It'll be ok. The school will manage it. Flowers

motherinferior · 15/09/2014 09:03

Actually, yes, I wouldn't meet her at all. Hand it in at school, saying "I've got something for the HT to sign, I'll collect it tomorrow"?

bigTillyMint · 15/09/2014 09:37

Yes, MI is right - that would be a much better option!

herbaceous · 15/09/2014 10:30

That's what I've done! Complete with polite but firm letter asking for it back at the end of today. I was afraid of meeting her at the gate, when I would have to actually TALK about it, but she wasn't there.

New school class will contain the somewhat madam-like daughter of son-obsessed NCT friend, which isn't ideal. But I'm sure it will all be fine.

I happen to know another space is coming up today, through a friend, but the school are being very firm about which class he'll be going into.

Anyway, much weight off the mind, and I MAY stop going on about it now.

motherinferior · 15/09/2014 10:38

Good for you!

Blackduck · 15/09/2014 10:44

:)

Rosebag · 15/09/2014 10:50

Even more unbelievable...DH has just phoned .....he's taking Wednesday afternoon off and taking me to posh local hotel for lunch. To make further amends, it seems. Shock Smile

bigTillyMint · 15/09/2014 10:51

Rose, that must have been some row! With him clearly in the wrongGrin

Rosebag · 15/09/2014 11:00

tilly he's of the " it's always somebody else's fault" variety. This is significant progress, and I was very gracious about accepting the apology. It reminded me of the final ( or penultimate ) scene if The Marriage of Figaro...does any one know it? The count apologises for his philandering and the countess accepts so graciously. Although this wasn't about philandering, it was about homework....which wouldn't make very good opera, of course Grin

herbaceous · 15/09/2014 11:02

He could start next Thursday! Better get buying uniform... And telling him it's on the horizon...

And yes, Rose, you should have rows more often!
