Forever Autumn Forever Crepey

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old,
and darker days are drawing near,
the winter winds will be much colder,
now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
and one by one they disappear
I wish that I was flying with them,
now you're not here

I like rather a lot of the new Woolovers designs. Bother.

Blackduck · 08/09/2014 16:43

Sometimes you wonder who has more maturity and sense.

From a pupil at the school: "I was a student at school when this all went down earlier today, everything seemed normal until about half past 9 when the school went into lockdown with teachers saying we weren't allowed to leave the building until the bell was sounded. Rumours quickly surfaced of a child with a knife who had attacked some pupils and staff, this was soon confirmed by various members of staff, the general atmosphere at the school was calm but the panic of the parents and the press was completely disproportionate to the events that took place. I hope that the child in question is found safe and well soon and that everything can be sorted out so that school can get back to normal ASAP."

bigTillyMint · 08/09/2014 16:47

Oh gosh, BD, I can see why you are worried. But hopefully it is being dealt with properly - this is clearly one child who has lost the plot for some reason, not an indication of the other students. But very unnerving for you and miniBD.

I am awaiting DD's return. Gulp.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/09/2014 17:00

Am listening to former colleague pontificate on Very Important Things on radio 4 and feeling thick.

BD - yes indeed!

Blackduck · 08/09/2014 17:10

Turns out one pupil and one teacher. Troubled child (very much a loner) they are now trying to find him. Think in the circa the school did what they had to do and shut it down and contained it.

MrsS you are not thick....

herbaceous · 08/09/2014 17:11

High drama, BD. But as everyone says, it's a one-off and not the shape of things to come.

I've emailed head of potential new (CofE) school, about whether they have a place and if can visit, and she replied within nine (9, ix) minutes. Yes, and yes, she said. Top marks.

Re madrigals, I would love to sing madrigals with Auriga. Though fear I am not of her calibre.

Rose - if you know any decent singers who live too far east for your choir, ours is after new members! Though preferably sane ones, who can read music and are either tenors or proper high sopranos - ie aren't just in the sopranos as they get the tune, and can sing higher than an E without going half a tone flat.

Good news re other school Herbs!

I will see how ds is tonight.

bigTillyMint · 08/09/2014 17:26

Herbs, great news - go for it, it's obviously meant to be!

DD is back and in one piece...

motherinferior · 08/09/2014 17:26

Slightly irrelevant question - what do I wear to hospital appt? I need to look well formal, innit?

beachyhead · 08/09/2014 17:43

Well, IMO the consultant, if male, will be in crumpled chinos and a crumpled shirt. If female will have linen somewhere, either top or bottom, or both Grin

bigTillyMint · 08/09/2014 17:46

Have I been attending hospital appointments in my fashion faux-pas all these years?Shock

motherinferior · 08/09/2014 17:49

I'm just wondering if looking vaguely kickass will mean they take any questions seriously.

Bear in mind my version of 'formal' is most people's version of 'hippy'.

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/09/2014 17:52

You need to wear your glasses and glare menacingly at them over the top of the glasses. They will be too frightened to notice what you are wearing then. Grin

beachyhead · 08/09/2014 17:56

And take a notebook and fierce pen!

motherinferior · 08/09/2014 18:03

I have a Naice Notebook. I will check I have writing implements. I will not bother too much about outfit. I do have a fair amount of linen I can crumple....

CointreauVersial · 08/09/2014 18:09

Ooh, BD, I heard about the school drama on the Radio Two news at lunchtime, and wondered if it was your DS's school. I hope it all resolves without further incident, but it is worrying all the same.

I spent the day in old clothes and rubber gloves, cleaning the scout hut where we had our "do"Hmm and lugging leftover bottles of booze and bags of rubbish back to the office. I opened my cupboard at work to discover two rather nice raffle prizes donated by one of the directors that I had completely forgotten about. Whoops. Blush Apart from that, reports from attendees are that the day went well. Thank goodness. Over £3k raised, and counting.

Lalsy and Crem - eek, how scary, these uni departures have come around quickly.... I can't remember much about my early days, but after seven years of boarding school I was pretty well-versed in packing and self sufficiency. Hoping it all goes well.

Auriga - yes, your weekend does sound most civilised. Not like any I've had recently. Blush

MrsS - hard work, all that curtain-twitching.Wink I don't get to see anything from this house. I used to live in a flat in Fulham, overlooking a road junction and a somewhat gritty pub. Every day there would be something to look at; a minor road collision, a pissed-up local shouting at people....I could sit and watch for hours.

Project Bathroom has suffered a slight delay, because the plumber hasn't been round to quote yet - apparently he is busy doing DIY SOS (Nick Knowles et al) half a mile up the road, installing a £3.5k toilet for a little quadriplegic lad. DD1 and I might sneak over and have a nose tomorrow, see if we spot anyone famous.

bigTillyMint · 08/09/2014 18:21

Oooh CV, that sounds interesting - maybe you can get into a shot?

MrsSchadenfreude · 08/09/2014 18:28

Oh I'm not curtain twitching, CV (I leave that for DH). I was working from home and had a clear view of what was going on from the dining table. Not least because he is quite shouty.

herbaceous · 08/09/2014 18:29

I once interviewed Nick Knowles about his new bathroom (for my 'bathrooms' supplement) and went to see it in situ. The bath had two ends, with the taps in the middle, 'so he could share it with a special lady'.

The full-length portrait he sent us for the cover shot featured such tight jeans you could tell what religion he was. We had to crop out anything below the waist.

NUFC69 · 08/09/2014 18:54

Hi from a wet Lake Tahoe - no wifi here and have logged on to the resort business centre where I only have 15 minutes (2 left). This is the very first time we have been here and the weather has been anything other than perfect - it is supposed to get better tomorrow.

I hope everyone is ok? How are the DC getting on with their arrangements for going to uni? Best wishes to everyone.

beachyhead · 08/09/2014 19:15

Ooh, I have a bath with two rounded ends and taps in the middle, but there certainly isn't room for any ladyeez or Nick Knowles, no matter how tight his trousers are GrinGrin

Blackduck · 08/09/2014 19:19

Ohh so do I Beachy (bath that is) but I'm not sharing with anyone....

Ds is all wide eyed at the situ at school - welcome to the big world I guess.

Beachy how was the boss

herbaceous · 08/09/2014 19:20

His was 'extra long'. The bath, I mean.

Blackduck · 08/09/2014 19:21

I'm sure it was Herbs....

bigTillyMint · 08/09/2014 19:24

Herbs, our bath has two ends too. And is extra deepWink Maybe this is a crepey thing?!
