White stuff clothes looking crap after washing - is this typical for this brand?

I recently found dressipi and spent hours having my style sorted out for me, so I was given a couple of new brands to look at 1 of them being White Stuff.

I ordered a vest top and a plain white t shirt with embroidery on the top both in my usual size 14.

The top was a little big but the 12 would have been too small so i kpet it. I washed them over the weekend and now have the t shirt on, it was slightly fitted when bought and now looks like i am wearing a bin bag, no shpe whatsoever. gutted as it was £27 but I thought as its more expensive maybe better quality etc. Just tried the vest top on and thats the same, i've washed as it says on instructions, and still they look baggy and at least size 18/20 now.

I will be sending back but is this a 1 off or are they usually like this. I found some other stuff i really liked but have been put off from ordering from them now.

I've had a few things from White Stuff and they haven't lasted very well at all. I had to return one dress because it ripped and the replacement ripped as well.

Their tshirt material items are particularly poor, they always end up holey. I spent £60 on a handbag and the stitching on the strap gave way.

They are similar price and stylewise to Fat Face but IMO FF is much better quality, particularly tshirts.

plentyofshoes · 01/09/2014 12:03

I do not buy from there anymore due to the rubbish quality.
I have a tunic that has lasted years though so it is a recent development perhaps?

ElephantsNeverForgive · 01/09/2014 12:06

DD had a thin jersey dress and that looked scruffy really quickly.

Very disappointing for £40+

LovelyWeatherForDucks · 01/09/2014 12:07

Agree - I always used to like white stuff, but nothing I've ever bought looks the same once washed, so I avoid altogether now. Much prefer fat face for similar items.

honeypie10 · 01/09/2014 12:27

Oh glad its not just me then!

Funnily enough fat face came up too but i skipped that section, I always assumed it was more surfer style clothes but i'll have to look into it again.

Shame really as the t shirt is quite nice but just cant wear it now as its too baggy and making me look even more massive than usual!

Kids fat face stuff is good. I haven't any adult things, but quite a lot appeared at the school gate.

My Minstral tunic has washed and washed.

JeniJones · 01/09/2014 14:42

I have lots of old White Stuff clothing that I have had for 4 years. Vest tops, t shirts, wrap dresses, woollen tunics, woollen vest tops, cardigans etc and they are all fine. I trouble seems to be since they started added cheaper materials to their products. Lots of their jumpers are now made with viscose which I find really spoils the feel and shape. I love looking at the website at the photos but I buy all my White Stuff off ebay now.

MewlingQuim · 01/09/2014 14:45

I have several cotton tunics and a couple of cardies from white stuff. I just lob them in on a normal wash (40 or 60) and they are fine. Had them for a couple of years now.

Have not bought their t shirts though because the necklines are too low and my norks hang out

I have fat face tunics too. They are good but smaller sizing than white stuff - I am an 8 in white stuff but a 10 or 12 in fat face.

emnn · 01/09/2014 15:34

I bought a tunic (well a long-ish semi fitted t shirt thing) from white stuff last month & will be sending it back as after 2 or 3 washes/wears the neckline has stretched stupidly & it's now was too gapey. Had to return a vest top 2yrs ago for same reason & got refunded without any probs. it's not as though I have big boobs to stretch stuff (wish I did!)

I have a zillion of clothes from White Stuff and it has all lasted for ages.

ihatethecold · 01/09/2014 16:15

I bought a dress from there last year.
It has got holes in two places.
Quite big ones too.
Do you think they would let me return it.
Even after a year.

dustdragon · 01/09/2014 16:20

I've stopped buying White Stuff. The summer clothes I bought from them last year barely lasted the season, fabric quality isn't good and they don't wash well.

I do like Fat Face - quality is much much better. I've still got Fat Face tops from a few years ago and the fabric hasn't faded or lost shape at all.

Oly4 · 01/09/2014 16:53

White stuff clothes are expensive tat but my god their handbags are amazing. I love my leather ones

jelliebelly · 01/09/2014 17:01

accessories and skirts/trousers good but tops are rubbish quality - either stretch or shrink when washed but never retain their shape.

carlywurly · 01/09/2014 19:30

Every £50 jumper you see in there comes with a little tag to warn how much it's going to bobble. And they really do.

Ninjabread · 01/09/2014 19:46

White stuff jumpers are really shit quality.

honeypie10 · 01/09/2014 20:07

I now wish id bought directly from White stuff, instead I went through house of frazer and after I got in touch with them today they said that I should send in a notice about whats happened as they will have to be sent for testing???

Testing what? I can see they will be difficult so may just print this page out and send it along to proove im not alone in thinking there stuff is crap.

I also thought £27 was way too much for a t shirt that probably cost them £3 to actually make, but god the way its mis shapen now id be ashamed to even use it as a dish rag, let alone wear it outside the house!!

White stuff is fab for skirts trousers and bags.
Knitwear tops and dresses are rubbish
Different suppliers?

msrisotto · 01/09/2014 20:10

Err shite, I just spent a fortune in there this weekend!

MehsMum · 01/09/2014 20:12

I have a couple of White Stuff dresses, one about 3 years old and one I think I bought last year - both of them are doing really well, ditto an ancient skirt, which has been taken camping and God knows what and still looks fine.

Vest top on the other hand hasn't done so well, and the white t-shirt was cut slightly on the wonk.

YeGodsAndLittleFishes · 01/09/2014 20:20

I find their clothes come up big. I am a size 10 at White Stuff and a size 14 at other places (like Next).

Some things are better quality than others, yes, but I have quite a lot of their clothes as it is one of the few of the shops I can find things to fit!

itsnothingoriginal · 01/09/2014 21:14

That's really bad customer service honeypie - why shouldn't they believe that the top has just washed badly and just give you a refund?? I can remember a shoe retailer sending some boots I took back for 'testing' about 10 years ago when the heel came off after 2 weeks - I've never bought anything from there since then!

Agree FF is the better quality of the two although the way they are all now using cheap fibres in clothes I'm not sure how long will be the case..

carlywurly · 02/09/2014 08:00

All shops seem to be cutting corners on fabric quality.
Went in Zara this weekend and was appalled. Frayed, badly cut and polyester everywhere. Without the prices to match.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/09/2014 08:07

Its depressing and white stuff aren't the only ones to cut corners on their material. Gap, Zara, next have been doing it for years. Their tops especially have been getting thinner and thinner for years. Fat face not much better

They don't look good, they don't wash well, they don't iron well.

I find Tis level of stuff to be the same quality as Primark these days or Tesco or asda. If I'm going to buy shit quality clothes I'd rather pay peanuts rather than inflated prices.

Really don't know where to shop these days. Joules seems a bit better quality but they don't have much choice and there's a lot of stuff I don't like. Not keen on Boden.
