White stuff clothes looking crap after washing - is this typical for this brand?

I recently found dressipi and spent hours having my style sorted out for me, so I was given a couple of new brands to look at 1 of them being White Stuff.

I ordered a vest top and a plain white t shirt with embroidery on the top both in my usual size 14.

The top was a little big but the 12 would have been too small so i kpet it. I washed them over the weekend and now have the t shirt on, it was slightly fitted when bought and now looks like i am wearing a bin bag, no shpe whatsoever. gutted as it was £27 but I thought as its more expensive maybe better quality etc. Just tried the vest top on and thats the same, i've washed as it says on instructions, and still they look baggy and at least size 18/20 now.

I will be sending back but is this a 1 off or are they usually like this. I found some other stuff i really liked but have been put off from ordering from them now.

I agree viva. I have matalan tops that have lasted longer than Warehouse or Karen Millen, and i wear it a lot more than the latter 2.

Its actually depressing. i dont have as much money to buy clothes as i'd like so i sometimes Save up a couple of hundred then go on a spree maybe twice a year. Even more depressing when i think ive completely wasted my money on something that now looks like a bedsheet on me!

Good luck with getting any decent customer service from House of Fraser OP - they'd take a contract out on you rather than give a refund Angry.

Vest tops and t-shirts I've had from WS have got holes in themand look tatty after a couple of washes. My similar H&M/DP/Primark purchases have lasted far longer.

What I do these days is check the material label (100% cotton) and the thickness, and if it fits the bill I'll usually buy it.

I've bought 3 tops from White Stuff this summer and none of them have washed well, including 2 I bought very recently, wore on holiday, washed, and are quite raggy. That's the end of White Stuff for me.

On the other side, I bought a dress at the beginning of the summer from Joules and it is as good as new. Also bought a top from them for the above holiday and it has come out of the wash looking as good as new. I'm not really that fond of the style of Joules, especially their desire to put logos everywhere, but cant fault the quality.

Withmyfeetinthesink Im already finding that out the hard way. Trying to get them to send me a return form was like puling teeth blindfolded. I spoke to them on live chat, waited 5 mins for someone to answer, then when se did said she would send one out to me and closed the chat window before id had a chance to read what shes actually written.

Never again will I shop with house of frazer!

Like the other posters I have items from White Stuff from 2 years ago which still look new, wash well and keep their fit BUT things I bought this year are definitely poorer quality. They don't wash well at all and the tee-shirts lose the shape after the first wash. Such a shame.

Withmyfeetinthesink · 02/09/2014 12:25

House of Fraser are dreadful OP - they also do this PA thing in live chat or in any email/messaging where they say 'we're sorry you're disappointed . . .'

No, actually, I'm generally fuming at your utterly horrendous customer service/awful terms and conditions/inability to have the same policies as every other retailer Angry [angry Angry.

So angry that I can't even do little faces . . .

I have only bought once from White Stuff - 3 items - a tunic, a tee shirt and a jumper. All three were like rags after 1 or two washes. They weren't cheap. I wont buy there again.

msrisotto · 02/09/2014 17:26

It's a shame because I like their clothing but it is expensive. I don't mind paying for quality but if it isn't even good quality, what am I paying for? Pretty but disposable clothing can be bought from Primark.

JoKenda · 13/02/2021 12:01

Anything from White Stuff containing lambswool is a complete waste of money. Despite following laundry instructions to the T they will shrink and bobble with first wash. Only good for one wear prior to washing. I am sick of hubby buying it then blaming me for ruining it.

Wandamakestoast · 15/02/2021 09:51

Oh this is interesting. I bought a few things from White Stuff recently. I haven’t shopped with them much before but thought I’d try it out. The jeans have just ripped all along the bum seam - I’ve had them less than 2 months! I’ve loads of pairs of jeans and this has never happened before. (In fact I bought them to replace a much-loved pair of Gap jeans which have finally gone in the knee after about 5 years). I’ve emailed them so will see what they say. It’s frustrating, it’s not just about the money, it’s also about the waste of time - ordering / emailing / returning.
Plus now I’ve had to spend time researching and buying jeans from elsewhere. It has definitely put me off them. I really hope the other clothes I bought wear better.

JoKenda · 15/02/2021 11:15

Wandamakestoast that is another rip-off: all Gap jeans eventually split at the knees! I have 3 pairs and 6 split knees. I found some stretch fabric patches in pretty prints on Etsy and have repaired them so that a pretty fabric is peeking through the holes.

Well I have a lovely cord skirt from White Stuff, bought about the same time as this thread was started. Fine still nice

Two tops bought 2 years ago are rubbish material and wish I had sent them back

How does a 7 year old thread get dragged up ?

Zengarden001 · 15/02/2021 14:49

I agree with most of the poster here, I bought a jumper before xmas, worn twice and now it looks 5+ years old. Fortunately it was reduced. I'm so sick of terrible quality clothes. To my mind it's a pretty common story that a brand has good quality to begin with and then starts to use cheaper fabrics and cuts a few years later.

Wandamakestoast · 15/02/2021 14:55

Oldraver- Confused thanks for pointing that out! I only noticed the date on the post above mine and hadn’t realised the thread was 7 years old!!! Blush

LivingDeadGirlUK · 15/02/2021 15:12

So what's changed in 7 years? I think Fat face is still pretty good quality tbh but I know MN hates that brand for some reason :p

M&S has really gone downhill in 7 years, I got some 100% cotton T shirts from there last year and even though its lovely thick material all 3 have come misshapen around the neckline and gone kind of saggy :(
