What is this winter's style of scarf going to be?

My first S&B thread!

Every winter, I roll out the same scarf which i love, but it's starting to look a bit tatty. Plus it doesn't suit the amazing coat I found in the January sales.

My coat is dark-bottle green military style, four buttons, slightly bell-shaped skirt to just above knee-length (will post pic if I can get on the laptop), it also has a high button up the neck.

I suppose technically it doesn't need a scarf, but I'm a cold-necked wuss Grin

So, will this season's scarves suit? Or what would suit that style coat? I'd also like to start making one for myself before winter hits.

I have zero style and am clueless, also no time to trawl pinterest. So I immediately thought of MN Smile

Any ideas gratefully received.

I would really like a becksondergaard leopard print scarf in rich gold/auburn/brown colours. Haven't seen any yet, though. It might not be particularly trendy this A/W but it's a classic look and I haven't worn it before so it's new to me.

Mind you I bought four scarves in the sale so really I think that ought to be enough for this winter... Blush

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 19:29

I don't think it's really their colour palette though, which is probably why I haven't seen any.

Speaking of trends I am looking for a tartan scarf that takes my fancy. Haven't seen the perfect one yet. Liked the oversized one zara did a while back (last winter?) and there's a Barbour one I might go for. Sigh, so many possible scarves.

I cheated and went for my grandmother's tartan instead of my mother's tartan - here.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 29/08/2014 21:02

Oh that's nice that you found a family connection w your tartan! I just buy what looks good to me superficial me. I also fancy a snakeskin print scarf, but, then, I did see some incredible cashmere scarves last year from Front Row Society, so will look there, too. I have many, many scarves. Not wearing them lately, though, having said all that.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2014 21:04

I've got a snakeskin one. Would love a dragon scale one.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 29/08/2014 21:05

Oh God, like that Marc Jacobs one? I regret not buying one - it is so SO beautiful.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2014 21:07

Not seen it. I saw a lovely Ted Baker one, but refuse to pay more than £30 for scarves.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 29/08/2014 21:16

TED Baker make some fabulous scarves.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2014 21:20

I saw this at the NPG the other day. It's absolutely gorgeous but £50.

BelindaAllWorkedOut · 29/08/2014 21:25

Oh I'm such an Oscar Wilde fan, how terrific!

Emo76 · 29/08/2014 21:26

Zara do good tartan scarves

JapaneseMargaret · 29/08/2014 21:28

You can buy gorgeous scarves for next to nothing these days, you din't have to roll out the same one from last year.

Hit the shops and buy whatever catches your eye!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/08/2014 21:28

The scarf pic is rubbish but it's basically a giant copy of a photograph of him. The colours are wonderful.

I bought a lovely oversized tartan scarf from TKMaxx yesterday. Asos have a gorgeous cashmere one.

I love tartan, have a tartan skirt and a tartan dress too :)

ThisBitchIsResting · 29/08/2014 21:33

I love scarves! I have purposely bought a very plain and bland winter coat so I can snazz it up. I do fancy a tartan one but being Scottish it would be a bit hmm

I have a huge snakeskin one from M and S about 5 years ago that I've been wearing the last week or so. And my Warehouse leopard one will definitely come out soon too. I have a couple of Becksondergaard ones too - a deep plum wool one with big tonal stars, and a teal/navy wool/silk leopard one. So I am sorted for scarves I think but would like a big plain orange, yellow or darkish red one. Cos do nice waffle woven ones. Oh and TK Maxx are good for big Aztec blankety ones, saw a lush one there last year I wanted for over my leather biker. Mmm scarves Smile

HolgerDanske · 29/08/2014 21:47

Ohhhh I would love a teal/navy leopard becksondergaard scarf! That would be even better than the colour way I mentioned earlier. I've got the teal/navy stars in wool/silk and I can't wait to wear it.

polyhymnia · 29/08/2014 22:05

I have a lovely Lily and Lionel one in blue animal print. - getting a little tired after four seasons but should dry clean up OK

polyhymnia · 29/08/2014 22:06

Also a LKBennett turquoise and dark blue animalish print -a pattern seems to be emerging !

Would this oversized one from Plumo would fit the bill OP? Oversized seems to be the way to go if you want to be au courant...

WhiteWriting · 30/08/2014 15:07

or this in taupe, more lightweight for town and with a dark green stripe running through that could compliment your coat?

trixymalixy · 30/08/2014 18:36

I bought a lovely tartan scarf last year and lost it somewhere in Chamonix Sad. I haven't seen one I like enough to replace it yet.

LEMmingaround · 30/08/2014 18:47

You paid £129 for a SCARF???

elQuintoConyo · 30/08/2014 19:34

Horses for courses.

Thanks for all your input and the links. I'm not really digging the tartan, so may have to A) look like a baglady or B) have cold neck A/W 2014/15

I loathe scarves that look like car rugs and would look like a prize dick Shock Grin

Besides, I can't make myself a tartan scarf. Damnit!

Forget tartan, just go into a few shops and see what they have. There's masses to choose from.
