a friend went to one and likened it to a rugby scrum (without the rules)

Fimbo · 20/09/2006 12:18

Ta. I will refrain then.

it is worth it for entertainment value though - whole gangs of highly organised and neurotic bossy mums hoarding whole boxes of stuff between them to look at in their own corner, and swiping whatever item you are just about to pick up like they've never seem clothes before - plus the queues are always unbelievably long (and you get people trying clothes on in the queue!)
Never managaed a bragain though - last one I went to was just like the online sale in terms of prices, but stuff from that season's cataloge too

Fimbo · 20/09/2006 12:22

Sounds hideous.

there is one in leicester in a couple of weeks time, not sure if i'm brave enough to bother facing it though. there were quite a few things i liked in the summer catalogue but the autumn one is really bland, some of the clothes that have embroidery on them - the embroidery is hidious.

Fimbo · 20/09/2006 12:34

My dh phsl at the last catalogue. Have just received a new one today which I haven't bothered to open, along with 3 invites to the clearance sale...........its little wonder some of the stuff is so expensive they must waste a fortune in postage.

Has anyone ever seen the man himself? I imagine him to look like this

God, only if you want to lose limbs. They are savage affairs. I went to the Fulham one & nearly crawled under the tables to get out. Lots of scary, braying women with elbows sharper than knives.

Fimbo - is there one in NORWICH??
I want to go.

Fimbo · 20/09/2006 13:40

By gods, Cupcakes, didn't you get your invite today in the post? I got 2 and dh got 1.

St Andrew's & Blackfriars Halls

Tuesday 3rd October 10am-7pm
Wednesday 4th October 10am-4pm

I have been put off, but I am considering going after dh finishes work, so he can look after dc, although no doubt dd would want to come too.

yes - if you have nerves of steel and don't take a pushchair (or a child at all)with you.
I went to one in Winchester once (never again!)and it was full of NCT type mums (sorry ) tearing round grabbling anything then going into a corner and sorting out what they wanted.
I bought a top for DS2 which was a bargain and he wore for ages and a sweatshirt for DS1 that was out in the wriong box and was about 3 sizes too big for him.
I reckon the online sales are better.

JackieNo · 20/09/2006 13:41

Someone on here posted a tip about hovering near the changing rooms and picking up clothes there, as people often don't bother to take them back to where they got them from. If you do go, don't even contemplate taking kids, especially in a pushchair or pram. And get your elbows sharpened.

cupcakes · 20/09/2006 13:43

no - I didn't get one!!

I love going but not sure when will be best. I could go first thing Tues but am scared of the crush. Have midwife in the afternoon. Tues is best as dh can look after dd.

Hmmmm. Thinks...

Fimbo · 20/09/2006 13:44

Maybe I should be one of those brollies from the 80's that have become fashionable again - you know the clear ones with the coloured strip round the edge - M & S are selling them. I could poke everyone with it, but still see what I am doing.

Sounds like a jumble sale without the tea and cakes! Are they jumble sale prices too? I'm thinking of going to the Norwich one. How do you find out about them? Can anyone go or do you have to have an invite?

Fimbo · 20/09/2006 14:40

No you don't need an invite - it's just a flyer really. Once you order something from Boden they never leave you alone! Cupcakes lives out a bit, which is why she probably didn't get one.

JackieNo · 20/09/2006 15:39

OMG - just got home and I've got an actual poster in the post from Boden. Granted it's a circular, so not addressed to me as such, but what a waste of paper.

Gemmasmummy · 03/10/2006 16:18

Went to the Norwich one today, bit of a mess and hardly anything decent left. Does all the OK stuff go in the first two hours? I got there at 12.30 and it wasn't at all crowded, but nothing decent left either! All styles/sizes/types of garment all jumbled up together, though there were boxes labelled by size and type of garment, you had to rummage through each one to find anything. Prices were £20 for a dress, £40 for boots (nothing bigger than a 36), £20 for a skirt or pair of trousers, children's dresses £10, T-shirts £8, coats £15 (but none left).

cupcakes · 04/10/2006 09:33

I went at 5pm yesterday. They'd really tidied up all the boxes so it was easy to look through plus really relaxed. I normally go first thing but being 6 months pregnant I just couldn't face the crush this time. There were some further reductions on which were good. I got these gorgeous velvet ballet pumps for £10 which I am really, really pleased with.
Also bought a sundress I had wanted for dd (they only had one and it was the right size)and shorts for her and trousers for ds. And some £5 plimsolls for dd. Spent about £40.
Not nearly as much choice as in the morning but still rather good.
And so lovely and peaceful (this was the bit that got dh - no saving makes the morning mayhem worth it for him).

TarkaTheHeadlessOtter · 04/10/2006 09:34

fab - i have got great stuff at the harrogate one but SHEESH it is the original bun fight!

FIMBOnABroomstick · 04/10/2006 09:49

Ooh Cupcakes - those shoes are lovely - lucky you! I wish I had gone now, but dd had a friend over for tea and I don't have time to go down today.
