Warm waterproof coat - holy grail?

So I started a new job this year which involves a train commute, having stood on the platform this morning in the freezing cold, wind and rain I have decided a need a warm, cosy and waterproof coat before the winter. After a quick search Didrikson and Merrell coats seem to come up recommended but which design in particular? Also the Merrell website has hardly any coats - am I too early? And yes I know it's still August but I'm in Scotland and it really was cold this morning!

Thanks ladies x

I have the Lands End squall coat which is super super toasty but hideous looking.

I bought the Merrell Haven this week in Peppercorn (which is more grey) else and got it for £65 from Blacks as it was the last one. I was cold the other day so I had it on and I was sweating. I'm in Scotland and it's started to get chilly some days.(gah!)

I'm a bit suspicious as it's not very heavy and the fabric doesn't look waterproof but DP is s snowboarder and he says that heavy doesn't equal warm and his snowboard jacket is similar material and is waterproof.

I have lurked on this type of thread for the past two years and not bought anything so I thought I'd be as well just buying it now before the prices went up.
