Superdry.....only for teens?

looki · 20/08/2014 22:29

I'm on maternity leave and may have taken leave of my senses. Usually I look for 'work' clothes but recently I have wandered into Superdry and I really like some of their clothes, in particular an army green shirt and an oversized charcoal top. I'm not talking about the clothes with Superdry splashed all over them in neon writing but some of their clothes really appeal. They have t-shirts in thick material which look like very good quality (as well as t-shirts in very thin material which look terrible).

The thing is I'm approaching 40. The shop is full of students and teenagers. Am I yearning for my youth? Would I look ridiculous in Superdry clothes?

I like superdry and i am 46! I love their parkas and would buy one but not one with superdry written across it in a really loud way. There is something in every brand for someone. I wouldnt worry about students shopping there. Shop online and buy what you like!!

As you ask - yes I do think just for teens, sorry.

I've got a vest top that I wear loads.
I love it and it goes with loads of things. It has got a tiny superdry motif at the bottom. I've worn it and washed it and it's still in good condition. I only went in the shop, when my DC wanted to go in last year.
I say buy what you like if it suits you. I'm older than you if that's relevant.

Yes, for teens - or early 20s at a push

Depends what you're wearing, but if it's the obviously logo-ed stuff then anyone over the age for about 27 just looks a bit daft imo (and that of my teens/their friends)

superdry is for dads (and obviously now mums) that think they are in their teens.

I have loads of their coats and a jacket, and a couple of shirts and thick tshirts you mention. I'm 32 and I have students :)

Their parkas and coats are excellent, waterproof and toasty. My acquisition of them started out by accident. I was on a work trip to Scandinavia in the summer and the weather suddenly turned nasty. There was no shop that sold coats in July, except the local Superdrug store which had a random sale on. I picket up one of their lightweight black jackets and loved it. After that, I found their parkas on a sale in the USA and it got me though a bitter North American winter. Wouldn't be without it.

I also find lots of their stuff in tk maxx. I got a blazer/coat thing there last winter (£70). It's so versatile, very structured and neat so I can wear it to work with black skinnies and not freeze.

Anyway, bottom line, no. You are not too old for the brand! :) enjoy! Some of their stuff is genuinely of good quality.

I don't get it as a brand, it looks like a cheap jean warehouse opened up in a closed shop in a mall

What Nancy said. I was at a BBQ recently and nearly every single dad (all knocking around the age of 40) was wearing a Superdry logo T-shirt. It's practically dad uniform round here!

Thanks for all your replies....I'm still unsure.

For what its worth though, I don't think being a mum or dad should DEFINE what we are supposed to wear.

Age however is another matter.......

I see more middle aged people wearing it than teens tbh. And yes to it being the dad uniform for the ones who are more trendy than the White Stuff/Fat Face dads!

Ooh it's a naff brand. Didn't it start in Hereford market or something ? I hate all the logo and in fact the designs. Stay away

I have a superdry coat. It's the only coat I could find in town that was black, water proof and had a hood.

That's all I wanted in a coat. It only has the logo on the zip.

I don't see any teens wearing it where I live. Mostly 30-40 something adults. I've got one of their coats and a hoody. The coat I've had for three years, worn it LOADS and it still looks practically new. The hoody I've had four years and it's a bit tatty now but again it's been worn loads.

I have a couple of plainish things from there. One thing to bear in mind is the sizes, a 12 is an xl Shock

Dp has a few jumpers from there and he is 34

I quite like the subtle stuff.
I wouldn't wear anything with any logo, but I have a nice pair of shorts and I like some of their tops.

I wear Superdry, and Hollister, and A&F. It's cheap, a lot of the stuff is decent quality material and washes well. My two favourite shirts are a Superdry and Hollister.

It's not just for teens at all, I think,it's like Gap and a Banana and Republic used to be, the appeal is there for younger people, but the clothes are good basics for any age.

I wear the logo'd stuff too. I also think the sizing has got a lot more generous as their popularity has increased.

I wear superdry, amongst other labels. Fred Perry, Timberland, Hilfiger, Levis are all faves too. I'm 43 and I think I look fierce! fuck it, honestly. I can afford brands now and I'm gonna wear them.

Some simple rules of course are keep the branding subtle/ hard to find and never wear two items of the same brand at the same time.

I'm 43 and a mum, and proud of both facts. I'm not trying to look like a teenager. But I've loved branded sports/ jeanswear all my life and now that I can afford it I'm gonna Pritt stick myself all over and run through the mall.

Jeanswear, that's my new word today. Smile

I love playing hunt the label when I see another woman dressed like me. I know where to look for the tiny icon.

and likewise, I appreciate it when I see others 'reading' my brands.
