I wouldn't unless obviously brand new and unworn. I would have to be extremely hard up before I would let my DSs wear secondhand shoes. I would rather buy cheaper but new shoes. This is interesting.

True, NP.

I just put DD1 in the posh shoes. She really does have a C width foot.

She was also so late to walk, she's had physio and it was ages before her gait was normal.

The last thing I'm going to do is put shoes taht don't fit well on her.

i also spoke to woman in posh shoe shop about handing down dd1's shoes to dd2

she said it was FINE as long as i checked her feet (and she showed me how to do this, its not hard!)

My most treasured pair of shoes are 2nd hand (although from a dress agency), they practically have a little altar to themselves in my bedroom. I also have a couple of pairs of charity shop shoes, dressy ones I don't wear much. Not sure I would get everyday shoes second hand, would worry about shape of other person's foot getting imprinted on mine. God, that sounds mad, doesn't it?

CaptainFlameSparrow · 19/09/2006 17:03

I'd buy em. No problem with second hand bras either though (barely worn close friends, not usually charity...)

CaptainFlameSparrow · 19/09/2006 17:05

I was replying to first few posts

nailpolish · 19/09/2006 17:19

they were certainly not everyday shoes, they were high heels

Put some bicarb in them, sprinkle in a little tea tree oil - freshen them and kill any lingering microbes.

oxocube · 19/09/2006 20:02

nailpolish, a definite yes.

FrannyandZooey · 19/09/2006 20:07

I thought passing on children's shoes was a definite no as we all wear our shoes down in a very individual way, and children's bones are still soft

I would wear anyone's shoes myself, I don't care. Hygiene? Pah. If you had an open wound and you could see body fluids on them, maybe. Doesn't seem very likely though, does it?

Medulla · 19/09/2006 20:08

I would def not wear second hand shoes
