Oh it's all bollocks about D EE and XXX fittings or whatever guff they spout.

'Our specially trained fitters'
A phrase that never fails to make me snort dismissively.God yes,it's soooo hard to work out the legth of a foot.

Getouttahere!!

I ram 'em on,and if they stay on their feet they fit.

misdee · 19/09/2006 16:41

i do moondog, dd1 has narrow feet dd2 has wide feet, dd3 has very narrow feet, any shoes passed down would destroyed.

i do pass on my kids shoes to others though.

mind you i have found a olovely website that sells slight 2nds clark shoes. its hit and miss on what they have in, but do check it after the kids feet have been measured to see if they have any suitable. £12 for a pair of winter boots.

I have just bought a pair of second hand shoes off ebay (can't afford new ones). Needs must and all that!

misdee · 19/09/2006 16:42

but moondog we tried to get shoes to stay on dd3 feet, we wre there a hour trying on shoes, she is a D fitting and even those are slightly too wide.

expatinscotland · 19/09/2006 16:43

Too right, filly.

She wore crap shoes once and got a horrible blister.

I felt terrible!

Never again.

I don't care if all my stuff is second hand or looks a state.

But not my girls.

moondog · 19/09/2006 16:44

lmao

My grandmother worked in v posh hat shop as youngster.
People would come in asking for a hat to be stretched on 'your special machine'.
Boss would bow in ingratiating manner, say 'Certainly Lady Assheton-Smythe' go into the back room and put his foot in the hat and streeeeetch it to f*ck.

Would then return saying 'Have put it on the machine Modom'

St Andrews has great charity shops too

i got the most gorgeous winter coat there one year

Zofloyya · 19/09/2006 16:49

ooh misdee please can we have a link to the clarks seconds shop?

SpanielEars · 19/09/2006 16:49

isn't it important that kids feet are checked and that the shoes fit properly with the correct width fitting etc? i agree clarks staff are crap and all about 14 years old who would rather be snogging their boyfreinds than measuring my little girls feet bit Startrite are good and seem to know what they are talking about. my dad as a kid was always put in shoes that had no witdths or second hand from neighbours and his feet are a right old mess because my dear Nan thought she was checking his feet properly!

expatinscotland · 19/09/2006 16:49

Coats okay. But shoes . . . eeewwww.

misdee · 19/09/2006 16:49

the shoes arent a weekly expediature though, so every 3-6months (or if they say their feet hurt) i go get their feet measures, i dont tell the shop assistant their current size anymore as so many times they would say they'd gone up a size but they hadnt, if they need new shoes, then they get them. dd2 still has trainers that fit. and over the summer sale i get dd1+2 some cheap doodles, dd1 pair were £2 IIRC.

expatinscotland · 19/09/2006 16:50

Was just in St. A's yesterday. But didn't go into any charity shops. Just to the beach.

nailpolish · 19/09/2006 16:50

It's a nice drive, NP.

Not my thing. I wouldn't want to live there, but it's great to visit.

nailpolish · 19/09/2006 16:52

i kind of trust myself to check dd's feet when she is trying on shoes

we go to a posh shop, get feet measured, then buy shoes in less expensive shops after posh shop has told me their size
