I really really want some

And wondered what the verdict was on here....

And if it a Yes then what would I wear with them?

Yes to Docs but no to patent white. Any colour patent for that matter.

I've just spent the afternoon taking my purple patents to 4 different cobblers to try to get the cracking toe creases fixed and all of them said they are awful to try and repair and its the part of the shoe that dies first. Soles and stitching all fine and they have just got to that slipper like phase after wearing almost everyday at work for 5 years so I'm going back to original leather for my next docs. Humpf these ones had so much life left in them too :(

I've got a pair of white DMs. I got them to wear with jeans and a big jumper and a couple of youngsters (20s) commented on how cool they were. Mind you that was 10 years ago. But I still wear them Grin

AuntieBrenda · 22/08/2014 08:43

Where's the best place to buy them? I've got a cherry red pair in my amazon basket but are there cheaper places?

GaryShitpeas · 22/08/2014 09:00

Have seen them quite cheap on eBay auntie

I've just come across this thread whilst trying to find out how to restore cracked patent DMs.
I think you can wear them at any age, I am 74 and have three pairs, croc look patent in black and dark green, and bright pink.
I get many comments from males and females of all ages when wearing the pink ones, all good I hasten to add. Some say I am brave to wear them, but what the hell, if you can't age disgracefully, then what's the point!!?

GahLinDah · 22/01/2015 15:01

Yy CatLady, DM's are one of those anomalies in fashion I think, ageless, unisex and feature in some way every new season.

Get them.

cherrytree63 · 22/01/2015 15:04

cat lady you have style! I'm 51 and have Union Jack DMs which I bought in the 70s. My daughter has pinched my other brown pair, and also has red patents. I think they're ageless and timeless.

Greengardenpixie · 22/01/2015 16:29

I have dr marten sandals and shoes but never was brave enough to get the boots! Well i have done it. Ordered a pair of floral dm boots!!! Cant wait. To hell with age! I am 47!

50ShadesOfSummer · 23/01/2015 06:07

Good for you, Green. I also have had shoes but never the boots until a couple of months ago when I tried on a black patent pair on a whim. Find them surprisingly wearable, mainly with opaques but also trousers. (Am mid forties, btw.)

RosieProbert · 23/01/2015 06:39

I'm on this thread under a different name and I've just come in to say I bought myself a pair of pink patent ones! I love them! I'm 33 Grin
Good for you op!

catnipkitty · 23/01/2015 09:09

Yes to DMs, no to white patent!

DeliciousMonster · 23/01/2015 09:10

Who gives a shit? Nobody will remember once you are dead.

Wear what you want when you want.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 23/01/2015 09:15

They aren't my taste but as for any 'age' comments. Total balls. If you like them, buy them, wear them and enjoy them.

JoyceDivision · 23/01/2015 14:27

I'm mid 30w, I have the plain black knee length lace ups, andnavy and oxblood 14 eye boots.

They are as cool as, and I get lots of compliments from work and the school run!

I think white might be more for the teenage fashionistas, but hey, each to their own!
