I really really want some

And wondered what the verdict was on here....

And if it a Yes then what would I wear with them?

if you're old enough to have worn them first time round then you're too old this time

Does anyone, anywhere, really take this sort of advice seriously?! If so, I feel sorry for them and sincerely hope that they find a meaningful focus for their life soon ...

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/08/2014 14:25

When I was growing up I swear there were only black ones and cherry reds.

gerbiltamer · 18/08/2014 14:47

Agreed, like Birkies they've really expanded their style range to encompass both fashion and comfort. Probably my fave element is the availability of size 9s in most options.

kelda · 18/08/2014 14:50

I still have my doc martens from 'the first time round' and I still wear them. I'm 37 and have white ones with flowers. Still not convinced that white is a good colour, I prefer my black and purple ones.

prettywhiteguitar · 18/08/2014 22:11

I think white would look good if you really styled them up and had brown legs, denim a-line skirt, black jumper. But I think in general they would be hard to wear.

I think I'm going to go and get a pair at some point, I'm 36

TheFillyjonk · 18/08/2014 22:19

Yeah, my initial thought was how unbelievably grubby they'd get. I'm not a DM fan so the thought of white patent DMs doesn't sound very appealing to me either. However, you are definitely not too old for them and don't let that be the reason you don't buy them if you really must have 'em.

OneLittleLady · 18/08/2014 22:42

Definitely not too old for DMs. I'd hesitate over getting them in white patent though, as patent can look a bit grubby as it starts to wear in places and would show an awful lot on white if they were worn regularly. I'm 31 and have some black crushed velvet DMs

msfreud · 18/08/2014 22:47

I'm 31 and wear Docs. White patent sounds awful though but if you like them, get them!

TheFillyjonk · 18/08/2014 23:41

When you get a scuff mark on white leather, could you paint over it with tippex? Just thinking of solutions if you really do want them. I'm not very classy, me so I usually disguise scuffs or marks with a permanent marker or matching nail varnish. Blush

RonaldMcDonald · 18/08/2014 23:58

DMs yy
White DMs? Sounds like you'd have minions in a lab somewhere

velourvoyageur · 19/08/2014 06:39

I'm 20 and I've been wearing Docs since I was 18, just bought my 2nd pair.....I'm never alone in my Docs love at uni now the hipsters are out in full force Grin

I have a 14 hole black pair and an 8 hole navy pair. I don't care if they look ugly, I think they're super cool with no age limit!

GobblersKnob · 19/08/2014 07:01

I am currently doing a degree and loads of the 19-21 year olds wear doc martens as do I. My good friend on the course has white patent ones, along with flowery and bright pink.

They are totally timeless and ageless imo, and you should wear whatever you want.

GaryShitpeas · 19/08/2014 09:17

I wasn't allowed them in the 90s as well

fuck it I am getting some

thanks for all the posts x

yes go for it!

kelda · 19/08/2014 13:27

The white flower DMs (although not patent) I have do not get that dirty. I've worn them in muddy fields and the mud has just wiped off.

moggiek · 19/08/2014 16:29

Don't like white, but I'm 55 and wear then unashamedly every day. I wear knee high's in winter, and sandals/sneakers for the rest of the year. I teach in a college, and you'd be amazed the number of times an old bird gets complemented on her footwear Grin.

MexicanSpringtime · 19/08/2014 16:35

I'm not the person to ask for fashion advice, but why can't you wear what you like? not what everyone else your age is wearing.

If I went by that rule, I would be wearing a dowdy knee-length skirt

elQuintoConyo · 19/08/2014 16:43

*BUY THEM

BUY THEM

BUY THEM*

So, so, so bored of 'modern' footwear, such a yawn.

moggiek · 19/08/2014 19:19

NoArmani - oh, dear!

LegArmpits · 19/08/2014 19:28

I'm older than you and I've got patent yellow with a pink stripe at the back. Coolas. They have to be broken in though.

MrsCosmopilite · 19/08/2014 19:58

May I refer you to my handy decision chart? (It works best if, like me, you don't give a toss about what other people think)

White patent doc martens. I'm 34. Yes or no?
RachaelAgnes · 21/08/2014 13:17

Having just met Gary (and her beautiful, polite children), she will rock any DMs she choses to wear!!

GaryShitpeas · 21/08/2014 17:34

Ah Rachael thank you! Lol. (Although you wouldn't think that if you'd have seen the apocalyptic tantrum that dd threw after you'd left when I said no to her having a four quid magazine Shock Blush )

And thanks so much again for the docs I absolutely adore them. (Wearing them at home ATM with my trackies as don't want to take them off) Grin ThanksThanksThanks

I saw a pic of Rihanna on her latest tour today and she has white DMs (or similar)

That's great. Good idea to wear them at home to break them in.
