They're cotton so they will dye v well. I've done it with jeans, they come up a treat. Like new.

fluffyfanjo · 09/08/2014 19:37

I live in black and regularly chuck in a packet of dye with a "black wash".

It makes everything look like new again.

TomatoSorbetWoman · 10/08/2014 00:14

Great. Any dye tips? I've never done

I would like to hear more about dying too, I have a couple of pairs of black jeans that I don't wear much except around the house as they have that faded/scruffy look.

ilovekittycats · 10/08/2014 09:53

LOL - Just read that back and obviously I meant dyeing!

maybemyrtle · 10/08/2014 10:47

Dylon do an all-in-one that you just chuck in the washing machine so it's dead easy. Works a treat on sprucing up anything cotton-based that's starting to fade. www.dylon.co.uk/products/dyes/wash-dye/

lurkingaround · 10/08/2014 11:06

And don't don't don't forget to run an empty wash (with bleach iirc) to clean any residual dye away. Sigh, I love bed linen.

TomatoSorbetWoman · 10/08/2014 11:07

oh god ta lurking - that is exactly my fear. Does the dye set in subsequent washes?

OP posts:
lurkingaround · 10/08/2014 11:29

I'm not sure about that. You wash the newly dyed clothes on a normal wash after the dyeing process and that's it done. Seems quite set. And the colour doesn't seem to fade as much (or as fast) as the original garment did. Honestly it's dead easy. Give the rubbery bits around the door a wipe after the bleach wash just to be sure no dye is left.

thanks Lurkers. Does one sachet do one troo? ( or can I bung both in?)

great tips!

One sachet would do quite a bit. It goes by weight, and the box tells you how dark/true the final colour will be for what weight, IYSWIM. I've done jeans with excellent results. I've also done kids cotton school cardigans half way through the year, when they've faded. They look better than when new! Most things are a v good success. I've done the dress thing but the flipping polyester thread made it a failure.

TomatoSorbetWoman · 10/08/2014 15:10

right - thats what I am doing this weekend then

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 10/08/2014 15:21

One way of getting around the polyester thread issue is to go over it with a very fine tipped black laundry marker. Even if it is not the same black, it'll probably be an improvement. Try on a hidden part first.

Coddo · 15/08/2014 20:02

ok
they have 5 % elastane in them - will that dye?

lurkingaround · 15/08/2014 20:18

Don't know if the elastane will dye but the garment (poncy word) will dye fine. It'll be perfecto. I've dyed jeans with elastane, no bother. Perfecto.

Coddo · 15/08/2014 20:34

you are SO HELPFUL LURKERS
I ADORE YOU

Coddo · 15/08/2014 20:34

( can you move in next door? I think you would be helpful and fun)

ElephantsNeverForgive · 15/08/2014 20:40

I've dyed a white, curry stained, table cloth Christmas green, worked a treat. Just do jeans and dark stuff next couple of washes to be safe.

Coddo · 15/08/2014 21:00

thanks Elephants

Tomorrow am , when i can see what I am doing, is the day

AmethystMoon · 15/08/2014 21:14

I tried Dylan black machine dye about twenty years ago to try to bring a pair of black jeans and a black denim jacket back to life. However I have never forgotten that they went a kind of greeny black which was horrid.
Can anyone confirm it isn't a sort of greeny black anymore?

AmethystMoon · 15/08/2014 21:14

Dylon!

Coddo · 15/08/2014 21:24

Which dye did you use?
